Are we all enjoying the April sunshine? This author doesn't remember much of that this time last year!

We've seen centuries for Ben McKinney (for Durham v Warwickshire), Kyle Verreynne (for Notts v Essex) - and a quite brilliant unbeaten 100 for Dom Sibley to keep Surrey alive in their game at the Oval v Hampshire.

Dawid Malan fell painfully short of a ton of his own for Yorkshire v the Pears, caught by Ethan Brookes off the bowling of Jacob Duffy for 98.

Serene progress with the bat for Gloucestershire v Glamorgan, for Leicestershire against Derbyshire and also for Northants v Lancashire.

Meanwhile, Middlesex are in a tense, low scoring affair away to Kent.

Wouldn't you do it all again? We would!

See you tomorrow at 10:30 BST.

    Fynn Hudson-Prentice took four wickets

After collapsing after lunch from 122-1 to lose 4-20 Sussex would have given their right arm to be in such a decent match position by the end of the first day.

But decent position they are in with Somerset faltering in the final session under a blizzard of superbly controlled seam bowling from Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

The 29-year-old Sussex bowler had it on a string reducing Somerset with a brilliant spell of 4-13 in four overs with the visitors trailing by 232 runs at the close.

John Simpson, Jack Carson, Jayden Seales and Sean Hunt deserve enormous credit for collectively wagging the tail of the Sussex innings and helping them to three bonus batting points.

With a bonus bowling point in the bag already they will return tomorrow with plenty to play for. Somerset will be hoping to follow the hosts' template.

  4. Close of play at the Ovalpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 55-1

Dom Sibley celebratesImage source, Getty Images

Nick Gubbins takes Hampshire to 50 with three runs to the leg side off the bowling of Jordan Clark, who is a little too full.

Four runs to Mark Stoneman clipped to fine leg as the opener moves across his stumps.

Gubbins picks up one more run off Matt Fisher to see out day one unbeaten on 23, though he could have been out caught by Dan Lawrence with a low, sharp chance at third slip four overs earlier.

Mark Stoneman finishes unbeaten on 19.

But the day belonged to Dom Sibley, who carried his bat and the Surrey innings today.

The Surrey opener has batted at times doggedly and at times spectacularly for a sparkling, unbeaten century.

Where would Surrey be now without his vigil?

  5. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 96 overs

    Notts 328-8 v Essex

Kyle Verreynne celebratesImage source, Getty Images

This has been Nottinghamshire's day overall given where they were in the game at lunch at 78-5. And Kyle Verreynne, who walks off with an unbeaten 111, deserves a huge amount of credit for anchoring a fightback.

The South African survived a couple of dropped catches, one at 33 and the other at 104, but was commanding elsewhere.

He had no shortage of brothers in arms either. Lyndon

Lyndon James helped put on 89 for the sixth wicket and Fergus O'Neill added 77 for the seventh. Mention too must be made of Farhan Ahmed who has stuck around to help add another 79 for the eighth.

Notts will resume in the morning which you could have had long odds against at various points in the day. They will do so against a very frustrated Essex bowling attack, too.

  6. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 11 April

    Yorkshire 425-8 v Worcestershire

Pears skipper Brett D'Oliveira must be regretting asking Yorkshire to bat after winning the toss and spending a day toiling in the Leeds sun.

Adam Lyth (67), James Wharton (44), George Hill (63) and Dawid Malan in particular will feel they left some runs out there, but Jordan Thompson (48*) and Ben Coad (21*) have continued to cash in on the conditions with an explosive ninth-wicket stand worth 65...

They'll be back in the morning seeking the 29 runs they need for maximum batting points.

  7. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 355-5

John Turner will bowl the last over of the day and Saif Zaib clips the fourth ball through square leg on the front foot for four.

He blocks the last two balls - and that's stumps.

A tough evening session of play for Lancashire after putting Northants in and taking early wickets this morning.

Valuable half centuries for Luke Procter and James Sales, who sadly for the visitors holed out on 92, but Saif Zaib starred today.

He has seized his chance on a pristine pitch to close on 111 not out in a partnership of 99 so far with Lewis McManus, unbeaten on 40.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.5 overs

    Davey lbw b Hudson-Prentice 6 (Somerset 58-5 v Sussex 294)

Fynn Hudson-Prentice has whipped out the nightwatchman Josh Davey with another seaming ball to leave Somerset reeling five down and FHP with figures of 4-13 from his four overs.

Last over of the day now.

  9. Third batting point for Northantspublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 350-5

It's been a tough session in the field for Lancashire, who had Northants 159-5 and 256-5 earlier today.

But they have not been able to dislodge Saif Zaib or Lewis McManus, who are now in full cry.

McManus moves to 40 with four runs driven immaculately down the ground - and that takes Northants to 350 and a third batting point in the 94th over.

  10. Close of play at CLSpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 11 April

    Durham 343-7 v Warwickshire

Ben McKinney celebrates his centuryImage source, Getty Images

A day Ben McKinney will never forget.

After watching his opening partner Alex Lees depart without a run on the board in the opening over, the 20-year-old steeled himself and amassed a carer-best score of 143*, with support from Emilio Gay (41), David Bedingham (58) and latterly Matty Potts who will resume tomorrow on 53*.

Warwickshire had a burst of three wickets in six balls to have their hosts 234-7 but toiled in the final two hours as the hosts edged the the brink of a third batting point.

  11. dropped catch

Verreynne dropped on 104published at 92 overs

The Notts batsman survived earlier on 33 when dropped by Simon Harmer and now he has been put down again by Paul Walter at first slip off the bowling of Shane Snater.

  12. dropped catch

    Surrey 253 v Hants 36-1

It just carried. Tough chance but a chance nonetheless.

    Banton c Simpson b Hudson-Prentice 6 (Somerset 46-4 v Sussex 294)

Fynn Hudson-Prentice celebratesImage source, Getty Images

Tom Banton was a shade fortunate to survive the hat-trick ball from Fynn Hudson-Prentice but he had no answer to that one.

Lovely skill to draw the batsman foward with length and movement off the seam to take the edge, and no mistake from John Simpson behind the stumps.

Hudson-Prentice has 3-6 and has turned this game on its head. Banton has only his memories of his 371 in the opening round.

  14. Postpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 341-5

Lewis McManus is moving through the gears now with two fours off the bowling of John Turner.

The third and sixth balls are short, wide and hammered away through cover off the back foot.

10 runs off the over and McManus is on 32.

  15. 400 up for Yorkshirepublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 11 April

    Yorkshire 403-8 v Worcestershire

Jordan Thompson and Ben Coad have had fun in the lengthening shadows and have brought up the fourth batting bonus point with still 28 balls to come tonight.

Thompson has 32* and Coad 17*.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Matty Pottspublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 11 April

    Durham 340-7 v Worcestershire

Good day for Matty Potts who brings up his fifty from 108 balls - just the fourth of his first class career.

Potts and Ben McKinney have added 100 for this eighth wicket in 26 overs.

Vital runs after Warwickshire had regained the initiative.

  17. Postpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 253 v Hants 34-1

Jordan Clark is in the attack for Surrey, bowling back of a length and Nick Gubbins defends down the ground.

He works the second ball away to fine leg for one.

Mark Stoneman leaves the ball outside off.

    Five overs left tonight.

Nottinghamshire's Kyle Verreynne on his way to a century

A terrific knock from Kyle Verreynne who came to the wicket in the 22nd over with the score 74-4 and has helped lift them to an unlikely second batting bonus point.

It is a 15th first class century and second for Notts for the 27-year-old (to go with his four Test centuries for South Africa. And further good news is that he re-signed a Notts contract in December in a deal which will see him available for 12 of their 14 Championship matches.

After missing out on their opening round win against Durham (he had proved his form with a century for Western Province late last month before joining up at Trent Bridge) this was an immediate return on their overseas player outlay.

  19. Close but no hat-trickpublished at 11.3 overs

    Somerset 40-3 v Sussex 294

Just a whisker away from Tom Banton's edge and off stump as it whistles through to John Simpson's gloves.

An inspired bowling change from the Sussex captain with two in two for Fynn Hudson-Price which has tilted the balance back about level in this game.

His first wicket to dismiss Sean Dickson left the Somerset opener off the pitch and the second squared up Abell and was hitting middle and leg.

Tom Banton would have been a nice hat-trick victim but he survived.

  20. 150 runs

100 for Saif Zaibpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 330-5

Anderson Phillip is back in the attack, bowling to Saif Zaib on 99.

A nervous squirt to mid on off the back foot yields no run.

    Got it this time!

Width from Phillip and driven through point for four runs!

That's his fourth century in first class cricket and his first this summer.

    149 balls, 14 fours and a six.

He's applauded by his team mates on the away team balcony.
