  1. Postpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 161-5 v Hants

Brett Hampton loses his radar a little with a short ball wide of leg stump, which Dom Sibley leaves alone.

Dom Sibley is forward, driving Hampton through the off side for one to move on to 42.

  2. Postpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 136-2

Anderson Phillip bowls short and wide of the off stump and James Sales leaves the ball alone.

The third ball is also short and dabbed to mid wicket safely for two.

Sales keeps the strike with a single pulled to deep square leg off the last ball to move to 35.

  3. Bedingham has a big stroke of luckpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 11 April

    Durham 138-2 v Warwickshire. McKinney 61, Bedingham 30.

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The last thing Warwickshire needed to do was give a chance to David Bedingham. He scored 1,331 championship runs last year and broke Durham records for fun.

He was on 29 when he edged Ethan Bamber to rookie keeper Kai Smith, but he couldn't hold onto the chance. If that wasn't bad enough he was dropped in Bamber's next over as well, this time at first slip by Rob Yates when on 30.

He and Ben McKinney have put on 60 runs so far, with McKinney reaching his 50 in 93 balls with seven fours.

It is a lovely warm afternoon in Chester-le-Street and plenty of spectators are in T-shirts and shorts. I'm old enough to remember people telling us they shouldn't play cricket this far north in April.

  4. Surrey pass 150 five down at the Ovalpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 151-5 v Hants

Ryan Patel strokes Brad Wheal through the off side and a sharp stop from Mark Stoneman at mid off prevents the single.

Dom Sibley gets a single off Brett Hampton at the other end and Patel again leans into a drive and is stopped by Stoneman at mid off.

A short ball is pulled away for four. It's also a no ball and the Surrey 150 arrives in the 39th over.

DigitalStu: 27% of the players in the Sussex vs Somerset game are called Tom.

What a statistic that is... Haines, Clark and Alsop line up for the hosts and Lammonby, Abell and Banton for Somerset. And to make things even better they all bat in order for their sides too.

I wonder... could you pick an England XI just featuring Toms?

  6. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 131-2

    More runs for James Sales.

Anderson Phillip is full and wide of off stump and Sales drives through point for four.

A single off the third ball and Luke Procter picks up four more, driven through the off side.

10 runs off the over in total.

  7. Postpublished at 36 overs

    Notts 107-5 v Essex

Over pitched by Noah Thain and Lyndon James leans into that elegantly to middle it back to the long on boundary for four.

But the hosts will have to make a decision about what constitutes a viable first innings total from here because whichever way you look at it and however nice that drive they are squarely behind the eight ball.

In their opening round win against Durham here the opposition's 378 first innings score proved inadequate with Notts rattling up 579.

And while every game is a self-contained contest, you would think that a partnership of well over three figures between James (14no) and Kyle Verreynne (15no) is needed if they are to have something to defend.

  8. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 143-5 v Hants

We have a replacement ball after 36 overs here at the Oval.

Brett Hampton will bowl with it and Ryan Patel defends down the ground.

He bowls round the wicket and Patel leaves the ball outside off.

Patel keeps the strike with a single pushed into the off side.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.5 overs

    Coles c Rew b Gregory 1 (Sussex 142-5 v Somerset)

Oh dear. Another down and it is four wickets for 20 since lunch.

That was a lazy effort from James Coles who attempted to on drive a delivery outside off stump without moving his feet to get in line, with predictable consequences, edging behind where James Rew cleans up.

  10. dropped catch

Bedingham dropped againpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 11 April

    Durham 134-2 v Warwickshire

David Bedingham might be a cat, you know...

He was dropped on 29 by Kai Smith off Ethan Bamber and has now edged Bamber again on 30, towards Rob Yates who can't gather the low ball in at slip.

Very quiet in the Bears field at present...

  11. 50 runs

50 for Luke Procterpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 120-2

His first 50 of the season and his 29th for Northants overall.

He has battled through a tough morning session that saw the wickets of Vasconcelos and Bartlett fall cheaply.

The Northants captain reaches the landmark with a scoop to fine leg off a loose ball from Anderson Phillip for four.

107 balls and seven fours in all.

  12. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 11 April

    Surrey 135-5 v Hants

Ryan Patel is off the mark third ball with a back foot drive through cover point for four.

That is a high back lift he has there. Shoulder height.

  13. Postpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 109-2

Luke Procter brings up the 50 partnership with James Sales in 106 balls with a glance to fine leg for one off Tom Bailey.

    Shot!

Sales moves to 23 with a drive through backward point for four.

    Wharton c Roderick b Duffy 44 (Yorkshire 123-2 v Worcs)

    Worcestershire celebrateImage source, Getty Images

The Pears do have a breakthrough in the first hour after lunch.

James Wharton has played very nicely but his feet turn to stone and he wafts at a rising one from Jacob Duffy and edges behind where Gareth Roderick takes a fine catch diving to his right.

Dawid Malan is the new man at the crease, joining Adam Lyth who is unbeaten on 53.

  15. dropped catch

Bedingham dropped on 29published at 14:03 British Summer Time 11 April

    Durham 124-2 v Warwickshire

David Bedingham is not the sort of player who you want to drop.

The elegant South African edges behind off Ethan Bamber but keeper Kai Smith diving to his right can't hold on.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lawrence c Albert b Wheal 6 (Surrey 129-5 v Hants)

Brett Hampton was expensive in his first spell, conceding 28 in four overs, but he's bowling a much better line and length here.

    Maiden over.

Brad Wheal continues from the Pavilion End and Dan Lawrence tries to guide the ball past backward point but there's no run.

Now he's out! Edged and caught by Toby Albert at first slip!

    Loose drive outside off.

That ball really took off and Albert has his third catch.

The new batter is Ryan Patel.

  17. 'Next hour important for Pears'published at 14:01 British Summer Time 11 April

    Yorkshire 123-1 v Worcs

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Worcestershire perhaps didn’t make the most of winning the toss this morning.

Adam Lyth played beautifully, however, for the home side; having got off to a flyer against some slightly wayward early bowling he then settled in and played circumspectly when the Worcestershire bowlers found some rhythm.

Following Finlay Bean’s dismissal James Wharton played very fluently and caught the eye with a couple of exquisite boundaries.

The first hour of the afternoon session could be important - the visitors need a breakthrough before the pitch flattens out.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.2 overs

    Hughes lbw b Pretorius 49 (Sussex 134-4 v Somerset)

What did Sussex have for lunch? Crumble perhaps as it is now three wickets in 10 deliveries for Somerset.

Dan Hughes was set on 49 but has played late on an inswinger from Migael Pretorius and it has clobbered him in front of middle and leg.

Two new batters at the crease now and a spring in the step of the Somerset bowlers after a tough first session.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32 overs

    Alsop c Aldridge b Gregory 0 (Sussex 134-3 v Somerset)

    Somerset celebrateImage source, Getty Images

Another wicket for Somerset in the second over after lunch to go with a first in the first and much of the good work done in the morning session by the hosts has unravelled.

Tom Alsop might feel on reflection he did not need to play at that as it was missing his off stump but he has had a dabble and paid by nicking it to Kasey Aldridge at second slip, taking a sharp chance low to his right.

  20. Northants pass 100 two down at Old Traffordpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 11 April

    Lancs v Northants 100-2

That's a very full off side ball from Anderson Phillip and James Sales guides it away, safely past the slips and along the ground for three.

The innings 100 comes in 31.4 overs.
