    What a day!

A stunning 22 wickets fell at Taunton where Somerset will surely secure a crushing win over Durham tomorrow.

The weather played its part elsewhere with the leaders Surrey having got Yorkshire at 282-4 at Scarborough while second-placed Nottinghamshire lost three hours of play at Hampshire but still managed to close on 241-5.

In the meeting of the top two in Division Two, the leaders Leicestershire recovered from 0-2 with centuries from Rehan Ahmed and Lewis Hill to take control at 357-3 away to Derbyshire.

You can read today's reports here and we'll see you tomorrow for day two.

Thanks as always for joining us!

  3. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 22 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 5-2

Here's hoping nobody was planning a big outing for day three because that has been quite a day at the County Ground with 22 wickets falling.

Craig Overton's 6-23 was the standout performance with the ball as Durham were knocked over for 145 but there have been good performances on both sides.

Ben Raine's counter attack, making 42, when Durham were backs to the wall was noteworthy, aggression carried on by Matthew Potts and Neil Wagner.

In Somerset's reply George Drissell's 5-59 (his first five-for) was just eclipsed by a terrific knock from Tom Lammonby who scored 89 on a day that all other batters failed.

A nervy last three overs saw opener and skipper Alex Lees and nightwatchman Callum Parkinson knocked over as Durham's second innings faltered early.

But on a pitch which is really starting to spin Somerset will probably not want to chase anything much more than 100 in their own second innings

All in all, a great day's cricket.

  4. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 22 July

    Glamorgan 125-4 v Kent 155

Ben Kellaway and Colin Ingram make it through to stumps in a vital partnership worth 47.

Kellaway has 23 and Ingram, 32, and they have inched to 30 runs behind Kent.

That collapse from 148-3 to 155 all out leaves the visitors behind the eight-ball heading into day two.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 22 July

    Parkinson lbw b Leach 0 (Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 1-2)

Six men around the bat and Jack Leach has the nightwatchman Callum Parksinon leg before to give Somerset the perfect start.

Just the 22 wickets now on day one...

  6. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 22 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 152-4

A good day for Essex as they look to pull away from the relegation zone against third-placed Sussex.

Jamie Porter's 4-30 helped them bowl out the home side for 204 with James Coles (52) top scoring.

Dean Elgar (46) and Paul Walter (47) got Essex off to a good start but they'll need someone to make something a little more substantial to move into the box seat.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 22 July

    Cook c Haines b Crocombe 3 (Sussex 204 v Essex 151-4)

Sam Cook thinks there's an easy single as he turns the ball down the leg side but it's in the air and Tom Haines takes the catch at short fine leg off the bowling of Henry Crocombe.

  8. Postpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 22 July

    Glamorgan 118-4 v Kent 155

These feel like crucial runs late on day one from Ben Kellaway and Colin Ingram.

The pair have put on 40 for this fifth wicket, bringing them within 37 of Kent's score.

Mind you, Kent were 148-3 so anything can happen!

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 22 July

    Lees c Gregory b Vaughan 0 (Somerset 250 v Durham 125 & 0-1)

What a start for Somerset... and it is the big wicket of Alex Lees, too.

Second ball of the Durham second innings (yes it is still the first day) and Archie Vaughan draws Lees forward and gets the edge.

The ball seems to take the edge and possibly even a clip off James Rew's gloves on the way to Lewis Gregory at slip.

He takes the catch and Lees has a few choice words, presumably about the celebration and possible the pitch which also receives a hard stare from the Durham captain.

  10. 150 runs

150 up for Essexpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 22 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 151-3

Essex are closing on the Sussex first innings of 204.

The 150 comes up as the nightwatchman Sam Cook drives to long-off for a couple of runs.

  11. Close of play at Cheltenhampublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 22 July

    Glos v Lancs 290-6

That is the end of play on day one with Lancashire looking well placed but the hosts still well in the game.

Matty Hurst finishes on 105 not out with Chris Green motoring along nicely at the other end on 28.

Hurst's effort stands out on a day when five of his colleagues got starts but failed to turn them into half centuries.

For Gloucestershire, 4-64 from Zaman Akhter stood out on a day which left them very much in this contest.

    Finely poised you might say.

  12. Close of play at Utilita Bowlpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 22 July

    Hants v Notts 241-5

We lost three hours of the day to rain but it's been engrossing enough.

Half centuries from Freddie McCann (79) and Jack Haynes () have got Notts into a pretty decent position after they were put in to bat.

The country's leading wicket-taker, Kyle Abbott has struck twice so far

Bad light eventually took us off with 3.5 overs still remaining in play.

  13. wicket

SOMERSET 250 ALL OUTpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 22 July

    Ball b Drissell 13 (Somerset 250 v Durham 145)

    It's all happening at Taunton.

Six and out for Jake Ball who wallops George Drissell over his head for a maximum to nick a batting point for the hosts then fails to keep out the next one, playing on to his stumps.

That is the end of the Somerset innings with the hosts holding a 105-run lead and Drissell, who bowled very nicely, finishing with 5-59 and a first five-wicket haul of his first-class career.

Twenty wickets already down and Durham having to face three overs tonight, most likely against Josh Davey and Archie Vaughan.

  14. 100 runs

100 for Hurstpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 22 July

    Glocs v Lancs 284-6

Matty Hurst brings up his century with a well-struck boundary towards long on, the second hundred of his first-class career.

  15. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 22 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 262-8

Bad light cuts three overs off the day's play at Edgbaston.

The umpires come together to check the light and given that we have just ticked past 6.30pm, that is that for day one.

Worcestershire have fought hard with the bat with Brett D'Oliveira's 57 and Ethan Brookes' 80 not out dragging them away from 50-3 and 109-4.

But Warwickshire have plugged away and two wickets with the new ball will make them pretty satisfied after a hard day's graft.

  16. 'Overton played around it'published at 18:32 British Summer Time 22 July

    Somerset 233-9 v Durham 145

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

    Craig Overton played around it.

It's moved a little bit, but not that much.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 22 July

    Verreynne c Fuller b Jack 42 (Hants v Notts 232-5)

    That's a bonus for Hampshire.

Kyle Verreynne tries to pull Eddie Jack to the boundary but gets under it and Jack Fuller takes a well-judged catch in the deep.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 22 July

    Overton b Drissell 19 (Somerset 232-9 v Durham 145)

A beauty from George Drissell and he bookends his over with two wickets.

It draws Craig Overton forward pitching outside off-stump and takes a massive turn through the gate and knocks the top of leg-stump.

For all the green there is significant turn available. Drissell has 4-53 from his 12 overs.

The lead is stretching towards three figures which could be huge.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 22 July

    Westley v Sandhu 26 (Sussex 204 v Essex 142-3)

Gurinder Sandhu bowls full and straight and Tom Westley, on the walk, is bowled.

A good moment with six overs remaining for Sussex to strike.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 22 July

    Lammonby c Potts b Drissell 89 (Somerset 231-8 v Durham 145)

Tom Lammonby falls 11 shy of his three figures, edging to Matthew Potts at second slip, but that still feels like a big innings in the context of this low-scorer.

The Somerset left-hander is drawn forward by George Drissell and a little bit of turn sees him offer a straightforward edge which loops up to Potts.
