  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 22 July

    Hudson-Prentice c Pepper b Porter 0 (Sussex 120-6 v Essex)

Jamie Porter is in the groove.

The Essex seamer nips one away from Fynn Hudson-Prentice and he edges through to Michael Pepper who dives to take a fourth catch of the day.

Jack Carson is next in with his skipper John Simpson watching from the non-striker's end.

Porter now has three wickets and it's a double-wicket maiden as well.

  2. 'Overton deserves this'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 22 July

    Somerset v Durham 87-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think Craig Overton deserves this.

He's only take 20 wickets so far this season at 28.4 which doesn't sound particularly impressive, but he's actually bowled much better than that without really very much luck.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 22 July

    Coles c Elgar b Porter 52 (Sussex 120-5 v Essex)

    Essex needed that, Sussex didn't.

Jamie Porter gets one in the corridor of uncertainty and James Coles almost guides it into the hands of Dean Elgar in the slips.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is in for Sussex at number seven.

  4. 100 runs

100 For Rehan Ahmedpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 22 July

    Derbys v Leics 141-2

Rehan Ahmed celebrates making a century for Leicestershire at DerbyhshireImage source, Rex Features

A second successive championship century for Rehan Ahmed and his fourth of the season.

He gets to three figures from 118 balls with 13 fours and one six.

There is no doubt he is a genuine all-rounder.

Had his performances been in Division One would he have been at Old Trafford rather than Derby this week?

  5. 50 runs

50 for Sam Robsonpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 22 July

    Middlesex 118-0 v Northamptonshire

A very nice day's work so far for Middlesex opener Sam Robson, who brings up his 50.

He pulls a short ball from Liam Guthrie out to deep midwicket for four - his seventh of the innings - to reach the milestone off 102 balls.

  6. 'Tennis shot from Bean'published at 14:00 British Summer Time 22 July

    Yorks 107-2 v Surrey

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

It's a good short ball from Dan Worrall.

He's got it in the right area to take a wicket but Finlay Bean got caught in two minds and ended up playing a tennis shot to Jordan Clark.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 22 July

    Drissell c Banton b Overton 4 (Somerset v Durham 71-7)

Craig Overton has 6-17 as George Drissell drives to mid off where Tom Banton dives forward to take a decent catch.

Somerset are in complete control of this match seemingly but this pitch is not going to be easy for them either.

If ever there was a case for assessing after both have batted this is probably it.

  8. Women's decider at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 22 July

    #bbccricket

Elsewhere in cricket today, it's the third and final women's ODI between England and India up in Chester-le-Street.

The series is tied at 1-1, so this is the decider.

Touch wood, there has been no stoppage in play yet in the north east, and you can follow our live text coverage of that game here.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 22 July

    Bean c Clark b Worrall 57 (Yorks 108-2 v Surrey)

    And one brings two.

Two in three balls for Dan Worrall, Finlay Bean stopping on an attempted pull/hook at a short ball and ending up bunting it to short midwicket where Jordan Clark takes a simple catch.

From 107-0 Yorkshire have lost both openers in three balls and now have two fresh batsmen at the crease.

  10. 50 runs

50 For James Colespublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 22 July

    Sussex 114-4 v Essex

He has been positive from the first ball he received and James Coles reaches his half century from 62 balls with seven fours.

The single for his personal landmark also brings up a 50 partnership with John Simpson (15*).

  11. Pitch inspectionpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 22 July

    Hants v Notts 20-1

We will have a pitch inspection at 14:15 (BST) at Utilita Bowl.

We have had no play since around 11:45 but the rain has eased off.

  12. Play resumes at Edgbastonpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 22 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 67-3

It is going to be one of those days up and down the country.

The hokey cokey of off, on, off, on has Warwickshire back out bowling at Edgbaston.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 22 July

    Lyth c J Overton b Worrall 47 (Yorks 107-1 v Surrey)

A typical Adam Lyth dismissal, driving loosely outside off stump.

It is a shot that brings him plenty of runs – and stylishly, too – but it is an airy miss and straightforward catch to slip here, Jamie Overton taking it at first slip.

  14. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 22 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 67-3

The pitch is still covered at Edgbaston as the afternoon session is delayed.

It is not raining as such, and players are milling about on the edge of the outfield.

But there is a huge black cloud hovering not far above the Hollies Stand, with its contents possibly heading in the direction of the square.

  15. 50 for Beanpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 22 July

    Yorks 94-0 v Surrey

Finlay Bean has his half-century, brought up with a cover drive for four, and with it takes another step in the right direction in what has been a stop-start season.

The 224 he scored against Notts in late June was a highlight but there have been plenty of failures at the top of the order.

He might have had another here after being dropped on three (by Dom Sibley) but has made best use of his second life, generally looking in good nick for all that he is being tested by Matthew Fisher.

He shared the record partnership for the first wicket at Scarborough (with Adam Lyth), the pair putting on 307 against Gloucestershire in June 2024).

Another big one would be handy here.

  16. 50 runs

50 for Durhampublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 22 July

    Somerset v Durham 51-6

And that seems like a significant milestone for the visitors on a pitch that is proving almost impossible to judge for the batters.

  17. Play resumes at Derbypublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 22 July

    Derbys v Leics 118-2

Off we go again at Derby.

For the moment we are on 'Rehan Ahmed watch' to see if he can reach a second successive championship century to go with the one he scored against Glamorgan last month.

  18. 100 runs

100 Up for Sussexpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 22 July

    Sussex 105-4 v Essex

    Up comes the Sussex 100.

James Coles (47*) is ticking along at nearly one run per ball.

Sussex go past three figures and Coles pulls the first ball of the next over down to the long-leg fence.

Batting suddenly looks a lot easier.

  19. Five-wicket haul for Overtonpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 22 July

    Lees c&b Overton 27 (Somerset v Durham 43-6)

Durham are making this pitch look unplayable.

Alex Lees sees one go past the edge of his bat, then sees one jag back into his pad.

He takes a big swipe at the next and puts it straight up, Craig Overton taking the catch off his own bowling.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 22 July

    Clark c Abell b Overton 0 (Somerset v Durham 33-5)

And Craig Overton gets himself on a second hat-trick of the day with his second two-in-two to dismiss Graham Clark.

Again, he misses out on the third although Ben Raine is beaten all ends up this time, the ball squeezing through between glove and hip and ricocheting up to slip.
