  1. Play resumes at Worcesterpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Worcs 55-2 v Kent - target 101

That rain shower may have spread a few alarms among Pears fans, but not to worry, the players are back out for what will be the final blows of this match.

Rob Jones (10 not out) will face the first ball after a lunch session extended by around 40 minutes.

    George Garrett in to bowl.

  2. 50 runs

for Tom Prestpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 179-2 v Essex 438-8d

    Shane Snater re-enters the attack.

He gets a false shot from Tom Prest first ball, but the thick outside edge races to the boundary and not to the non-existent second slip.

And that is a half-century to Prest.

He missed the last three Championship matches with a shoulder injury and was meant to bat at No.7 in this innings. But he has made hay with James Vince not allowed to bat yet.

  3. Postpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 168-2 v Essex 438-8d

It is rare to watch an Essex game and not feel like Simon Harmer is a threat in the slightest.

The off spinner has bowled 15 wicketless overs, although has only gone for 24 runs.

There is no turn, no bounce and therefore only has his pin-point accuracy in his arsenal to build pressure.

  4. wicket

    WICKET: Proctor lbw b Roland-Jones 33published at 14:08 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 77-4

Seven in the match for the Middlesex captain as he bags his opposite number with a straight one.

Luke Proctor survived a big shout in the previous over which looked out and had used his luck evidently.

Straight and hitting on the back pad and Northants are wobbling a bit here.

  5. Play to restart at Worcesterpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Worcs 55-2 v Kent - target 101

It seems the weather won't save Kent.

The lunchtime rain shower has passed and the protective groundsheets are coming off.

We will have play at 2:20 if there is no further rain.

Worcestershire will resume needing just 46 more runs for victory.

  6. 50 runs

for Matty Hurstpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 134-6

He missed out on a 50 in the first innings, but not this time.

Matty Hurst square drives an overpitched delivery from Jordan Clark for four and reaches his half-century from 94 balls.

  7. wicket

WICKET Holland b Akhter 56published at 14:06 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 &188-4

Ian Holland's hopes to two hundreds in the match disappear as he drags a ball from Zaman Akhter into his stumps.

New batsman Rehan Ahmed under-edges just past the stumps for four and then adds a second boundary with a pull shot.

  8. Postpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 127-6

    Penny for Sam Curran's thoughts.

After going past the edge of Tom Hartley's bat with two perfect away swingers and testing him with an excellent yorker, which he just digs out, the left-armer is denied a maiden as Hartley drives the final ball square for four.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Bartlett c Fernandes b Brookes 17published at 13:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 Northants 207 & 69-3

Great grab at point by Nathan Fernandes to give Middlesex an early breakthrough after lunch.

Loose shot from Bartlett, whose eyes lit up at a half volley outside off, only to pick out the fielder.

Fernandes still had plenty to do but took a sharp chance low to his left.

  10. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 121-6

Sam Curran is finding plenty of 'shape' but Tom Hartley is coping well with it so far.

Just a single for Matty Hurst from that over - he is 44 not out and Lancashire need another 119 to make Surrey bat again.

  11. Postpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 154-2 v Essex 438-8d

The tactic at the moment is Paul Walter bowling chest-height bouncers to Toby Albert.

There isn't enough pace in the pitch to make it too tricky for the batter.

And just as that is typed, Albert rolls his wrist over a delivery that barely makes it to belly button height to turn the ball to the boundary. Albert up to 75 now.

  12. wicket

WICKET Rahane c Akhter b de Lange 6published at 13:48 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Glos 544-4 dec v Leics 402 & 171-3

Marchant de Lange takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Is there time for a twist in this one?

Ajinkya Rahane pulls a short ball but top edges and Zaman Akhtar takes the catch at long leg.

The wicket comes one ball after Ian Holland reached 50 from 127 faced with a single off Marchant de Lange.

    Leicestershire are just 29 ahead.

  13. Back underway at Northwoodpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Middlesex 264 v Northamptonshire 207 & 57-2

Play resumes and Ethan Bamber and Toby Roland-Jones resume hostilities. Luke Proctor and George Bartlett are in the crosshairs.

The Northants pair have levelled the scores with the first two runs of the afternoon session.

  14. Back under way at Utilita Bowlpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Hants 146-2 v Essex 438-8d

On second thoughts, we might be going later than the traditional 16:50 BST hand-shake.

It is far more likely play keeps going until the 110 overs are up. For reference, 57 overs have so far been bowled in the Hampshire innings.

Simon Harmer resumes play with a dot ball to Tom Prest.

  15. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Warwickshire 337 & 270 v Somerset 238 & 13-0

Play was poised to resume after lunch but the rain has come and they are going off.

Somerset's two openers Andy Umeed and Tom Kohler-Cadmore did not look too keen to battle through it to be honest.

With 369 the target this match will soon be heading for the draw if we lose a significant chunk of overs.

  16. wicket

WICKET Iyer c Foakes b Clark 15published at 13:42 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 118-6

Two balls is all it takes.

Jordan Clark finds a bit of movement away from the bat, Venkatesh Iyer dangles it horizontally and Ben Foakes says 'cheers, mate'.

Tom Hartley is Lancashire's number eight - remember when he used to play for England?

  17. Delayed resumption at Worcesterpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Worcs 55-2 v Kent - target 101

The inevitable Pears victory charge has been disrupted.

The rain has started falling over New Road during the lunch break and the covers are on.

  18. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

    Surrey 444-9 dec v Lancs 204 & 118-5

Time to re-start proceedings at The Oval.

Surrey need five wickets for a seventh win of the season, despite the loss of all but 10 overs of yesterday's play.

Matty Hurst is 43 not out for Lancashire, Venkatesh Iyer has 15.

  19. What a debut for Hoggpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 25 August 2024

Durham beat Notts by an innings and 17 runs

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Debutant Daniel Hogg, just 19, will remember this match for a long time.

He's helped Durham to victory against Notts, taking the four wickets needed on the final day to finish with impressive figures of 7-66 in 25 overs. There were also seven maidens.

In all, he took eight wickets in the match and if you add in Ben McKinney's debut century on day one, the Durham youngsters have had a lot to celebrate.

The only downside to the game was Neil Wagner's shoulder injury - but his absence on days three and four allowed Hogg to shine.

Next up, it's Taunton away on Thursday. Durham will head off for a week on the road, with their T20 quarter-final at The Oval to follow on 3 September.
