  1. WICKET Breetzke c Simpson b Robinson 12published at 11:09 2 July

    Northants 144-5 v Sussex - target 284

    The balance tips Sussex's way.

Ollie Robinson looks absolutely delighted as he gets some big lift and catches the outside edge of Matt Breetzke.

The batter tried to get his bat out of the way, but not in time and wicketkeeper John Simpson does the rest behind the timbers.

Northants had chipped just seven off their target this morning.

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts

Keaton Jennings finishes the first over of the day with a boundary off Lyndon James, it takes him to 187* but more importantly brings up that third batting bonus point.

And with that, he and James Anderson trot off. Anderson 0* from two deliveries. The hosts will try to make up for lost time by taking some early wickets.

Jimmy Watch is in full swing, people. Take your seats...

  6. Postpublished at 11:02 2 July

Kyle Abbott bowls a single ball to Charlie Stobo to finish off the over in which he ousted Harry Finch last night.

Jack Leaning will take strike for the first full over from James Fuller, and you'd think will want to hog it for as long as possible.

  7. WICKET: Abell lbw b Booth 61published at 11:01 2 July

    Somerset 208-7 v Warwicks 412

Warwickshire pick up where they left off last night!

Three balls into the day and Tom Abell is on his way, mesmerised by an inswinging full toss from Michael Booth that smacks him on the pad.

In comes James Anderson, bat in hand.

  10. What does the weather have in store?published at 10:56 2 July

    #bbccricket

Almost all of the nine games on the slate this week were hampered by the weather conditions on day two.

We had delayed starts, early finishes, abandonments, bad light and mini sessions galore from Taunton to the Riverside on Monday - only Hampshire's game against Kent saw 104 overs bowled in the day.

While there are scattered showers popping up across England this morning, the majority of what we'll call the more concerning weather is currently dampening the mood of Northern Ireland and the Irish Sea.

Soggy Southport has had another dousing this morning so starting on time would be a pleasant surprise, but otherwise there looks like being plenty of cloud cover but very little of the wet stuff... yet!

Keep those fingers crossed that we get a full day of action on moving day in this round of matches.

  11. What's happening in Division Two?published at 10:53 2 July

    #bbccricket

The match between leaders Sussex and Northamptonshire could not have been set up any better.

Hosts Northants sit 137-4 overnight, needing 147 more runs today to beat the south coast side who, in turn, need six wickets.

Home hopes were dealt a blow with Emilio Gay's departure for 67, but this could be a close one.

Leicestershire are on well on top against second-placed Middlesex whose unbeaten record this season is in peril.

Lewis Goldsworthy (75), Ben Green (45 not out) and some fireworks from Louis Kimber helped them to 311-8 at the close - a commanding lead of 404.

Yorkshire are well set to clinch back-to-back victories at Chesterfield despite a rain-hit day two against Derbyshire.

James Wharton (188) and Jonny Tattersall (93 not out) have powered them to 416-6 in reply to the hosts' 76. Worth remembering that Derbyshire won the toss...

And centuries from Cameron Bancroft (159 not out) and Miles Hammond (121), and an unbeaten 90 from James Bracey have put Gloucestershire well on top against Glamorgan.

They lead by a massive 370 with seven wickets still in the shed.

  12. Kent lean on Leaning once again in battle to save the gamepublished at 10:50 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 206-6

    Jack LeaningImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire have put themselves in a commanding position and will be hopeful of a big win against basement-boys Kent.

James Vince struck an eye-catching 211 and shared a 259-run fourth-wicket partnership with Ben Brown (110) before an early declaration, just after his side posted the seventh 500+ first innings total in their nine matches so far this season.

Kent will need to find another 150 runs just to avoid the follow-on on day three, with their hopes resting squarely on the shoulders of Jack Leaning.

The 30-year-old struck an unbeaten 179* in his last appearance seven weeks ago, finishing his near-10-hour marathon game-saving knock with a broken hand against Worcestershire.

He is back in the middle and unbeaten on 73 overnight but lost Harry Finch to the final ball of day two.

Kent begin the scramble to save the game at 11:00 but might need some divine intervention in addition to Leaning heroics if they are to escape with a draw this time.

  13. What will Pears have to chase?published at 10:48 2 July

    Durham 190 & 148-9 v Worcs 112 - Durham lead by 226

Batting has not been easy on a green top at Chester-le-Street and the Worcestershire attack has done well to keep them in the game.

After they conceded a 78-run lead on first innings, Pears fans may have feared the worst, but four wickets apiece for Tom Taylor and Nathan Smith have prevented Durham running away with this.

Ben Stokes was out in the final over of the day last night for a lively 26 and have just Bas de Leede and Ben Raine to add to their overnight lead of 226.

The hosts will be favourites, but this game has swung back and forth throughout.

    Watch this space.

  14. Fingers crossed for play at Southport...published at 10:42 2 July

    Lancashire 344-8 v Notts

No play was possible on the second day of the match between Lancashire and Nottinghamshire at Southport.

It was a very stop-start day with covers on and off, a couple of warm-ups and hopes of play around midday, but the rain returned and the day was abandoned shortly after 16:00 BST.

It's not been great so far this morning either, however let's remain hopeful that play will be possible later.

Across the first two days, fans have flocked to Trafalgar Road in the hope of seeing James Anderson bowl in what might be his last game for Lancashire.

Anderson is due to play his 188th and final Test match against the West Indies at Lord’s next week.

When Mother Nature has taken her leave, Lancashire will resume on 344-8 with skipper Keaton Jennings on 183 not out and just six runs to find for a third batting bonus point.

In the nine games played at Southport since first-class cricket returned to the ground after a 12-year absence in 2011, Monday was only the second of 31 days on which play was completely abandoned.

  15. Bears aim to break Somerset resistancepublished at 10:39 2 July

    Somerset 208-6 v Warwicks 412

Olly Hannon-Dalby ripped out three Somerset wickets in quick succession last night and he’ll be eyeing a five-for this morning as Warwickshire look to cement a healthy first-innings lead against the hosts.

The Bears paceman resumes with figures of 4-45 and Somerset, replying to their opponents’ total of 412, still need another 55 to be certain they won’t find themselves following on today.

The home side were in trouble at 57-3 on day two before two of their numerous Toms – Banton and Abell – improved their fortunes with a stand of 139.

A batting point or two might come in handy for the Cidermen as well, and both of those aims rest largely in the hands of former skipper Abell, who resumes on 61 and James Rew, yet to get off the mark.

  16. England keepers seek to stretch Surrey leadpublished at 10:35 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 44-3 v Essex 180

    Jamie SmithImage source, Rex Features

England wicketkeepers past and future will launch the task of extending Surrey’s 126-run lead to a match-winning advantage this morning as they resume on 44-3 at the Oval.

Ben Foakes, seemingly discarded by the selectors, and Jamie Smith – set to win his first international cap in next week’s first Test against West Indies – are the not-out batters against an Essex side who fought back with the ball after being dismissed for 180 on day two.

Surrey’s seamers shared the wickets around and, so far, the visiting bowlers have done the same, with Jamie Porter, Shane Snater and Eathan Bosch claiming one apiece last night.

Second-placed Essex will be anxious to restrict the league leaders this morning, with a gap of 12 points already separating the two rivals at the start of this game.

If you're in for a day of cricketing thrills and spills together with the odd tale of the unexpected, you've come to the right place.

Thanks to the inclement weather yesterday, we still have all nine matches in play, although that's unlikely to be the case by stumps.

Worcestershire are likely to begin their chase early today in Division One against Ben Stokes and Co, while in the second tier, Northants and Sussex could be done by lunch - with both sides in with a big shout.

Another intriguingly poised match is the Division One summit clash at The Oval where a battered and bruised Essex are still fighting hard.

And if that isn't enough, James Anderson should turn his arm over for the first time this season for Lancs at Southport.

So what are we waiting for?
