  1. Postpublished at 18:44 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 81-2

George Balderson and Nathan Lyon are bowling out the day as the light has improved.

Not going to see James Anderson bowling late on a rather chilly evening by the seaside in the north west, mark my words.

Will Young has moved on to 11 from 99 deliveries, Joe Clarke has eight from 22 and the deficit is down to 146.

  2. WICKET Brookes b Mike 2published at 18:42 2 July

    Leics v Middx 270-9 - target 466

    One to go.

Ben Mike is having a fine game and pins Henry Brookes bang in front with a full ball which kept low.

Absolute plummers that one. Mike has three wickets and Leicestershire are almost there.

    Ethan Bamber joins Toby Roland-Jones.

  3. 50 for Jacob Bethellpublished at 18:42 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 253-6

Jacob Bethell (Warwicks)Image source, Getty Images

Great way for Jacob Bethell to bring up his half-century, depositing Craig Overton into the stand for an enormous six.

The left-hander has faced 71 balls and that's his second maximum, in addition to six fours.

Could the Bears be eyeing an overnight declaration? They now lead Somerset by 381 with five overs remaining.

  4. Stumps at Southamptonpublished at 18:39 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 132-2

Kent have frustrated Hampshire this afternoon and this pesky 84-run partnership between Ben Compton and Jack Leaning in particular.

Leaning has spent seven-and-a-half hours at the crease in the past 28 hours or so. He ended with 118 in the first innings and has 32 in this second innings so far.

Compton has 71 at the other end.

They still trail by 30 with eight wickets in hand but realistically the visitors will need to bat out the vast majority of the final day too if they are to salvage a draw from this game.

  5. WICKET Hollman b Green 25published at 18:35 2 July

    Leics v Middx 267-8 - target 466

    Ben GreenImage source, Rex Features

Middlesex on the brink of their first red-ball defeat of the season.

Luke Hollman makes a horrible misjudgment and leaves a ball from Ben Green, bowling around the wicket, which swung in a little and pushes back his off stump.

The hosts need two more wickets for an impressive win - and could well do it this evening.

  6. 200 up for Glamorganpublished at 18:32 2 July

    Glos v Glam 203-3 - target 593

The target remains a distant speck on the horizon, a mirage perhaps, but Glamorgan are not giving this one up.

Sam Northeast collects his sixth boundary as he sends Marchant de Lange to the rope.

Three balls later a lovely drive through the covers for four brings up the Glammy 200 and moves the skipper on to 36.

The draw may be the realistic positive result for the visitors, but this pitch is giving up a lot of second innings runs so...

  7. WICKET: Hain c Kohler-Cadmore b Overton 43published at 18:30 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 229-6

It's almost a repeat of the Dan Mousley dismissal as Sam Hain gives Craig Overton the charge and drills the ball into the waiting hands of the mid-on fielder.

Hain was almost walking off before the catch was completed and he's replaced in the middle by Michael Burgess.

Warwickshire's lead is 357, while Somerset's stand-in captain now has four wickets in this innings.

  8. Back out at Southportpublished at 18:28 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 77-2

Good news. The light has improved and there is no rain in the air.

The crowd is sparse but we'll have eight more overs this evening, all being well.

It'll be spin from both ends once again, though.

  9. WICKET de Caires c Currie b Kimber 36published at 18:26 2 July

    Leics v Middx 261-7 - target 466

You just can't keep this guy out of the game.

The part-time spin of Louis Kimber does the trick and edges the Foxes closer to a first red-ball win of the season.

Josh de Caires props forward, playing for turn that isn't really there, and edges to line slip Scott Currie .

Bonus wicket. Could Leicestershire wrap this up tonight?

Middlesex need 205 for the record.

  10. Postpublished at 18:22 2 July

    Surrey v Essex 0-0 (target 361)

Dan Worrall sends down the first of those 12 overs for tonight and it's a maiden to Nick Browne.

The opener plays it solidly enough, although one delivery fizzes just past his outside edge.

  11. Postpublished at 18:15 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 213-5

Jack Leach has bowled consistently so far, but he's just given up two fours in successive deliveries.

The first of those was dropped short and hoisted through midwicket by Jacob Bethell, but the second was a streaky edge past the keeper. All important runs, however, and Warwickshire lead by 341 now,

Bethell is on 26, with Sam Hain 36 and we have 12 overs remaining tonight.

  12. 250 up for Middlesexpublished at 18:12 2 July

    Leics v Middx 250-6 - target 466

Josh de Caires (34 not out) pulls Matt Salisbury for a single and that brings up the Middlesex 250 in the 74th over.

There's still 16 overs remaining today. Yep 16.

Ten of them, potentially with the new ball.

  13. WICKET: Patel b Critchley 107published at 18:11 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 278 v Essex 180

    Matt CritchleyImage source, Getty Images

Finally, Ryan Patel's innings - and Surrey's - comes to an end as he is bowled by Matt Critchley.

It means Essex will need 361 for victory and they'll have 12 overs to face tonight.

Having performed as he needed to with the bat, Dan Worrall must now be licking his lips at the prospect of a wicket or two this evening...

  14. Postpublished at 18:08 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 120-2

Ben Compton has moved on to 65 while Jack Leaning has 29 and these two have added 73 from 21 overs together.

Just what the doctor ordered for Daniel Bell-Drummond.

Worcestershire's win at Durham is something of a hammer blow for Kent and they will be desperate to avoid defeat and being cut further drift at the foot of the table.

  15. 100 for Ryan Patelpublished at 18:07 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 274-9 v Essex 180

Ryan Patel (Surrey)Image source, Rex Features

    Superb knock by Ryan Patel!

He reaches his fourth first-class hundred by drilling Simon Harmer back down the ground for four, the landmark coming up in just 122 balls.

Credit also to Dan Worrall, who has played the spinners extremely well to ensure Patel had a chance for his ton - and on top of that, Surrey's lead is now an extremely healthy 356.

  16. 'Barker is coming off with an injury'published at 18:03 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 118-2

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Keith Barker is limping, the ball has hit him on the left ankle and he's coming off.

That's a blow. It's a blow for any player in that situation but it's a blow for Hampshire.

  17. 'If there is any rain it's very fine'published at 18:03 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 76-2

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Having gone off with this light it's unlikely to improve.

There might be some rain. If it is it's very, very fine.

  18. Bad light stops play at Southportpublished at 17:58 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 76-2

    Oh no.

It's not a surprise but still a shame. There are 16 overs left in theory but not sure how many we will see.

It is gloomy and there are spits and spots of rain about, too. The grounds crew are mobilising. The spectators are heading for the exits.

This will help Notts more than it will Lancs.

  19. Postpublished at 17:56 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 76-2

New Zealand international Will Young has centuries in ODIs and T20 cricket. He has made more than 30 tons in all formats in total. He averages more than 40 and his strike rate in T20s is 130.

He has made 10 from 75 deliveries at Southport this afternoon.

One of those kind of days...

  20. 50 for Marnus Labuschagnepublished at 17:55 2 July

    Glos v Glam 163-3 - target 593

    Marnus LabuschagneImage source, Getty Images

Two overs after Glamorgan lose Kiran Carlson, the visitors have a little something to cheer.

It's a sight that English cricket fans are a little too familiar with, but Marnus Labuschagne raises his bat.

    A single off Matt Taylor brings a 56th career first-class 50 off 74 balls.

He's had to graft for this one, but it's a fourth half-century this season.

But he and Sam Northeast will need plenty more to save Glamorgan in this one.
