  1. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 258-9 v Essex 180

It's an all-spin attack for Essex at the moment, as they try to prise out this final Surrey wicket.

Right now, though, the spinners are leaking runs and Simon Harmer's last over cost him 15 - including a successive six and four from Ryan Patel, who is playing with visible confidence.

If Dan Worrall can stick around, Patel - who now has 87 - could be on for three figures.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Ben Comptonpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 101-2

Brought up with his seventh four, a reverse sweep off Liam Dawson. It came from 114 balls.

Compton follows it up with another cut to the rope off another wide one to bring up the Kent 100.

Only time will tell how vital this knock will be. If he's there tomorrow afternoon then one would think the answer would be 'incredibly.'

  3. wicket

WICKET: Taylor b Harmer 3published at 17:45 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 235-9 v Essex 180

As so often, when Essex need a wicket, Simon Harmer provides it for them.

It's the spinner's first over of this Surrey second innings and he tempts James Taylor with the flight - but the batter misses and the leg stump clatters behind him.

Last man Dan Worrall comes in to join Ryan Patel.

  4. dropped catch

Jack Leaning dropped on 21published at 17:45 British Summer Time 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 91-2

James Vince has dropped Jack Leaning for the second time this afternoon - one in either innings, and both off Mo Abbas.

The Pakistani veteran finds the edge but Vince couldn't hold on low to his left.

Abbas has just seen another edge flash past the slips to the rope at third.

His glare could currently cut through a steel beam.

  5. 'Game is settling down more into mid-afternoon rhythm'published at 17:39 British Summer Time 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 186-5

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Warwickshire won't want to give Somerset even a sniff.

After that burst of excitement with a few boundaries and then those three quick wickets, this game is settling down more into a mid-afternoon rhythm.

  6. Postpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 75-2

It's a bit murky at Southport & Birkdale CC and the umpires have had a lengthy chat. I believe they might have told Keaton Jennings that it's no longer safe to bowl pace.

Chris Green is coming on to bowl some off-spin in the place of James Anderson, at the very least.

There are 22 overs remaining on the slate today, in theory at least.

  7. Postpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 231-8 v Essex 180

The Oval crowd are being thoroughly entertained by Ryan Patel at the moment.

The left-hander launches a Shane Slater delivery back over his head for six - and then pulls another, shorter ball into the stand as well as the Surrey tail wags vigorously.

Patel's onslaught means the home side now lead by 313.

  8. wicket

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 71-2

Maiden from Jimmy Anderson, and the Southport punters are in for a treat as Nathan Lyon comes on to bowl at the other end.

And he's got Haseeb Hameed first ball.

Hameed has played nicely but shuffles back on his stumps as Lyon skids one through at him and sends the faintest edge into the gloves of Matty Hurst.

Joe Clarke comes in and is on a pair. A punch down the ground for three from his first ball gets him off the mark in this game.

  9. Postpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 71-1

Something to wake the Southport crowd up after a bit of a serene period, a chap from Burnley who turns 42 later this month has been invited to have a bowl.

Haseeb Hameed has moved to 41 while Will Young has made nine from 48 deliveries.

  10. 50 for Ryan Patelpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 213-8 v Essex 180

Ryan Patel (Surrey)Image source, Rex Features

Excellent knock by Ryan Patel, who brings up his first half-century of the season from 78 balls.

It's been a really valuable knock by the left-hander, who has kept Surrey on track after they slid to 127-6 earlier.

  11. 'Hameed has been doing the bulk of the scoring'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 70-1

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

A bit like Ben Slater in the first innings, Haseeb Hameed has been doing the bulk of the scoring.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Barnard run out 2published at 17:24 British Summer Time 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 177-5

What on earth's going on, Warwickshire?

Suddenly wickets are tumbling and this one was extremely avoidable too.

Sam Hain pushed Jack Leach to mid-on and Ed Barnard was slow to react as Kasey Aldridge's throw hits the stumps at the striker's end.

Could Somerset be back in contention here?

  13. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 208-8 v Essex 180

Dogged defence by James Taylor - and some neat footwork too as he almost plays on to Shane Snater but then lunges in, centre-forward style, to clear the danger in time.

Surrey lead by 294 and you feel that, psychologically, they'll want to make sure they take that above 300.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Mousley c Banton b Overton 1published at 17:20 British Summer Time 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 175-3

Now Craig Overton has three wickets as Dan Mousley takes a step forward and then drills the ball rather tamely to Tom Banton at midwicket.

Warwickshire are suddenly losing their way a bit, although they do lead by 303 as Ed Barnard marches out to the middle.

  15. Postpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 2 July

    Lancashire 353-9d v Notts 126 & 63-1

Haseeb Hameed and Will Young have added 23 runs in 13 overs together. Stark contrast to the high-octane action of the first 40-odd overs of the day.

This duo have quietened down the effervescence that the Lancashire team had early this afternoon and are slowly but surely taking time out of the game.

The deficit is down to 164.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Rhodes c Rew b Overton 36published at 17:10 British Summer Time 2 July

    Somerset 284 v Warwicks 412 & 171-3

    Craig OvertonImage source, Getty Images

Craig Overton collects his second wicket of this Somerset second innings as Will Rhodes takes a swing and gets a bottom edge that is neatly scooped up by James Rew behind the stumps.

Dan Mousley is the new man in for Warwickshire, who lead by 299.

  17. Division Two round-uppublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 2 July

    #bbccricket

Leicestershire have made further inroads as they seek their first win of the season.

The Foxes have drawn seven of their eight matches this season, but have Middlesex 192-5 - still 274 away from an unlikely victory.

Ben Mike opened the door by having Leus du Plooy caught by Ben Green for 60.

And 14 balls later Matt Salisbury had the dangerous Ryan Higgins caught behind for 40.

Glamorgan have made a respectable start away to Gloucestershire and moved to 125-1 in their second knock.

After Billy Root fell before tea, Australian maestro Marnus Labuschagne (34) and Eddie Byrom (37) have added 58 for the second wicket.

Just the small matter of 468 more to get.

  18. Postpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 2 July

    Hampshire 505-8d v Kent 343 & 56-2

James Fuller comes on to break the dual-spin spell for Hampshire in the place of Felix Organ.

Ben Compton tucks into the fourth ball of his over with a beautifully timed square drive for four runs to move to 30.

Jack Leaning has one from 14 balls at the other end.

The deficit is down to 106.

  19. wicket

WICKET: Lawes b Bosch 0published at 17:06 British Summer Time 2 July

    Surrey 262 & 193-8 v Essex 180

Erm, make that two wickets still to fall...

Having taken the catch to dismiss Jordan Clark, Ethan Bosch then flattens Tom Lawes with a beauty that jags back and sends his middle stump flying.

Lawes goes first ball and James Taylor comes in with Surrey leading by 275.

  20. 'That really was not good from Durham'published at 17:06 British Summer Time 2 July

Worcs beat Durham by 6 wkts

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Six wickets. I would have never had imagined that happening today.

It's the second match in a row where Durham's bowling on the final day has just not been up to the task in hand and they'll be asking some questions after that one.

They could have been nicely up in the top three after this with a win and not worrying about looking over their shoulder.

Instead, Worcestershire get their first win of the season and they're back in the thick of it. It tightens everything up.

That really was not good from Durham, but credit is really well due to Kashif Ali with 76 not out in this second innings and 55 in the first.

What a performance from him. He just played his own game, didn't fall for any of the tactics from Durham.
