And with the close at Headingley, that's us done for the day.

Saturday's forecast does look drier, so fingers crossed we'll get nine games in play!

Hope you can join us from 10:15 BST.

    Enjoy your Friday evenings!

  2. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 117-6

Goerge Bartlett is fine to continue and Lewis McManus needs to see out the last four balls of the day.

He ducks under a bouncer and defends a fuller ball on the up into the off side.

The last ball is pushed safely into extra cover and that is stumps for day two, though given the absence of play yesterday it feels more like day one.

A very satisfying session of play for Yorkshire after winning the toss and fielding first.

More applause for Ben Coad, who passed 300 career wickets tonight and indeed for George Hill, who took his first wickets in this session of play as a capped Yorkshire player.

The White Rose are firmly on course to grab the second promotion spot ahead of Middlesex, who have yet to start their game away to Sussex due to rain.

But it's not a done deal yet. They still need maximum bowling points and at least a draw out of this match.

Bartlett survives a testing session of play unbeaten on 41.

  3. ouch!

Bartlett struck on the helmet by Thompsonpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 117-6

Lewis McManus blocks into the off side to see out the penultimate over.

Ben Coad is warmly applauded by the Headingley faithful, ending his day with 3-29 in a spell where he took his 300th career wicket.

Jordan Thompson bowls short to George Bartlett, who nudges the ball off the shoulder of his bat bat for a single.

In fact that ball struck a glancing blow on the helmet via the glove and there will be a concussion check.

  4. wicket

WICKET Singh c Wharton b Coad 4published at 18:08 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 116-6

Single to George Bartlett off Ben Coad and we have four slips in for Fateh Singh.

He's driving with a bit of bottom hand outside off stump but this ball is picked up at short mid off.

We now have a short mid wicket, short extra cover and a leg slip as Singh is beaten outside off stump and the ball goes through to keeper Jonny Bairstow.

Out! Driven and caught by James Wharton at short mid off!

Lewis McManus will bat next with one ball and one over remaining.

  5. Postpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 115-5

Four runs to George Bartlett, glancing a leg side ball fine off Jordan Thompson.

A single off the next ball takes him to 39.

An appeal for caught behind off the bat of Fateh Singh but it hasn't been given and now another slips comes in.

The sixth ball is a tad wider and driven through extra cover for his first Championship career runs.

  6. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 324-6 v Warwickshire

The umpires are walking back to the pavilion and the groundstaff are off to fetch the covers as bad light ends play early in Nottingham.

It's been a good day for the hosts who have picked up the two batting points which will secure them safety if they avoid defeat.

The same goes for the Bears who have two of the five points they need to guarantee their place in the top tier next season.

Freddie McCann's 130 was the highlight of the day, while Kyle Verreynne is unbeaten on 76 at stumps alongside Rob Lord (12 not out).

  7. wicket

WICKET Zaib c Hill b Coad 3published at 17:58 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 106-5

Saif Zaib is a bit squared up by Ben Coad but jabs the ball down safely into the off side.

Got him this time! That's his 300th wicket for Yorkshire and his 54th this season.

Zaib is drawn forward, squared up and edging to George Hill at first slip.

Fateh Singh is on a Northants debut and he'll bat next.

  8. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 27 September

    Glamorgan 283-4 v Gloucs

That's it for day two in Cardiff.

The hosts will be pleased with their work, reaching 283-4 at stumps.

Chris Cooke (43 not out) and Sam Northeast (27 not out) will resume batting on Saturday.

  9. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 324-6 v Warwickshire

Oliver Hannon-Dalby into a 23rd over and Kyle Verreynne is happy to let Rob Lord face as he punches a single into the offside from the first ball.

Lord rocks back and drives but a fine stop at cover denies him a boundary.

    And now they're going off.

Cloud has blotted out the sun and the umpires have decided the autumn evening light is not fit for play. The crowd is not chuffed and there's a few yells of 'get on with it'.

There's 8.2 overs still scheduled, but that could well be that.

  10. Postpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 106-4

Saif Zaib works the first ball of the Jordan Thompson over to leg for one run and George Bartlett gets a full toss, which he nudges via a thick edge wide of the slips for four.

Thompson drags the length back a bit and Bartlett defends down the ground.

  11. Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 101-4

George Bartlett takes Northants to 100 in 34 overs with a push through wide mid on for four.

Ben Coad is coming back into the attack and lest we forget, he currently has 299 career wickets for Yorkshire.

Saif Zaib gets off the mark to Coad's first ball (and Zaib's 16th) turning it to square leg for a single.

Bartlett is forward defending into the off side.

He shoulders arms to a wider ball, leaving it outside off stump.

A very late leave to a couple straighter balls to end the over.

Five overs left and Jordan Thompson is coming back from the Howard Stand End.

  12. Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 323-6 v Warwickshire

To the surprise of many, Will Rhodes has been asked to share the new ball.

Ed Barnard would be the usual choice, but Rhodes didn't put a foot wrong with the old ball.

Rob Lord drives crisply back down the ground, but a good diving stop from Dan Mousley prevents any runs. Just two from the over.

Nine overs left in the day.

  13. Close of play in Tauntonpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 27 September

    Somerset 136 & 60-4 v Hants 196

Common sense prevails with all tarpaulin sheets possible covering the square, run ups and practice wickets.

The full yellow circular thing is back in the sky with full blue sky again, but it would take at least 30 minutes to get all the sheets off again, and an 18:15 BST start in September seems too rogue.

So that is it until one more Super Saturday of County Championship for 2024 in Taunton tomorrow.

  14. Postpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 321-6 v Warwickshire

A curious first ball back for Oliver Hannon-Dalby which is so wide that Kyle Verreynne has to stretch to reach it. Two runs.

The Bears seamer goes wide again and Verreynne cuts for one more to go to 75.

A big yelp of exasperation from OHD as Rob Lord shoulders arms to the fourth ball which isn't a million miles away from the off pole.

He tries a slower ball which Lord reads and works to deep midwicket for a single.

The suns continues to shine but the floodlights are on.

  15. Postpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 95-4

A slice of luck for Saif Zaib who edges George Hill just short of third slip but he sees out the over getting forward and defending into the off side.

    Another maiden over.

George Bartlett gets a leg side ball from Matt Fisher, which he gratefully clips through a vacant mid wicket for four runs.

Four more clipped in front of square on the leg side.

That ball was in the air for a while though!

  16. new ball

Warwickshire take the new ballpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 317-6 v Warwickshire

Will Rhodes continues to tie down the batters as he bowls the 80th over with three slips in place.

Rob Lord paddles the final ball between wicketkeeper Michael Burgess and first slip. That carried and was a chance, but neither went for it. Four fortunate runs.

Alex Davies takes the new ball and Oliver Hannon-Dalby will have first go with the new cherry.

  17. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Cardiffpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 27 September

    Glamorgan 283-4 v Gloucestershire

The hosts have been rebuilding nicely since losing three wickets for 12 runs this afternoon.

This fifth wicket stand is worth 73 runs- so far.

Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast is unbeaten on 27 with Chris Cooke not out on 43.

That may be it for tonight but we'll keep you posted.

  18. Postpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 27 September

    Notts 312-6 v Warwickshire

Craig Miles turns and appeals as he wraps Kyle Verreynne on the front pad.

Not out. May have been going down leg. A good shout, though.

The next ball not so good - it's wide and Verreynne helps himself to his 12th boundary.

The South African then unleashes a big hook which finds the man at deep square leg for a single. Verreynne moves to 71.

  19. Postpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 27 September

    Yorks v Northants 87-4

Wicket maiden from George Hill, who has delivered a superb spell for the Tykes this evening. 2-12 off five overs. 10 overs left.

Matt Fisher will continue from the other end, bowling with four slips.

George Bartlett leaves outside off and comes down the pitch to do a spot of gardening.

The fifth ball is fuller and driven through mid off for four.

An appeal for LBW as four more runs are awarded to a very fine leg. He can't have got more than a faint inside edge on that but it's four runs nonetheless.

  20. Curtains?published at 17:33 British Summer Time 27 September

    Somerset 136 & 60-4 v Hants 196

The heaviest rain of the day falls now with every cover possible coming onto the ground.

With it being past 17:30 BST now, expect the close to be declared fairly promptly at Taunton.
