  1. 150 for Ollie Robinsonpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 24 June

    Essex v Durham 449-4

It’s taken just three balls this morning for Ollie Robinson to take his overnight 146 past the 150 mark.

It came with a lovely on drive back past Shane Snater.

Not great encouragement first up for the Essex attack.

The 25-year-old needs just 22 more to eclipse his highest first-class knock set last month against Lancashire at Blackpool - some vein of form. He must enjoy life on the road.

    Worcs v Surrey 342-6

Rory Burns was caught at mid-wicket in the first over yesterday, Jordan Clark follows suit today.

Tom Taylor has 2-65 now, and maybe talk of Surrey possibly reaching 500 was a bit premature.

    Notts 326-8 v Somerset

Craig Overton opens up as Somerset look to mop up the Notts tail.

Olly Stone plays out a maiden in relative comfort.

The visitors will be getting a little frustrated with this. They had Notts rocking at 190-7 midway through day one.

  4. Ball change at Edgbastonpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 24 June

    Warwks 52-2 v Hants 298

Dan Mousley gets a single first ball and after a grand total of one delivery this morning, we're changing the ball. Apparently.

    After 12.1 overs!

  5. Postpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 24 June

    Worcs v Surrey 349-5

Tom Taylor is handed the ball for the opening over of the day at Visit Worcestershire New Road. His first delivery beats Jordan Clark outside off stump.

Adam Finch is not out in the middle, with youngster Dan Lategan fielding as a replacement. That means the Pears are a bowler short.

  6. Day Two begins at Canterburypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 24 June

    Kent 244 v Lancs 38-1

Lancashire opener Luke Wells will resume on 14 not out after losing his opening partner and captain Keaton Jennings last night.

Josh Bohanon starts at the non-striker's end on 22.

Charlie Stobo will bowl to Wells to get the day's play started.

  7. Play resumes at Edgbastonpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 24 June

    Warwks 51-2 v Hants 298

Hampshire would've been disappointed to fall short of 300 after reaching 119-1 on Sunday, but will be buoyed by their bowling in the mini session of play last night, capturing two Bears wickets in 12 overs.

It could've been more but for a few edges guiding the ball just wide of the slip cordon.

Night watchman Danny Briggs is three not out and resumes with Dan Mousley, yet to get off the mark after facing just two deliveries.

Kyle Abbott will bowl to Mousley.

  10. Switch back to red-ball from T20 'never easy' - Smithpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 24 June

    Worcestershire v Surrey 340-5 (play starts 11:00)

Jamie Smith batting for SurreyImage source, Rex Features

Surrey batter Jamie Smith said "trying not to over-think things" was a key part of his approach to batting after passing 500 Championship runs for the season on day one at New Road.

Smith made 86 as the reigning champions laid the foundation for a big first-innings total, with Dan Lawrence 91 not out overnight.

“It wasn’t easy in the heat and after playing so many T20s in a row, reverting back to the Championship is never easy," he said.

"There were a few tired bodies out there so trying to protect that a little bit after a lot of cricket. I’m just trying to stay as relaxed as possible and just play every ball as it comes down."

  11. Lancashire begin push out of relegation zonepublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 24 June

    Kent 244 v Lancs 38-1

Lancashire began this round in ninth place and have the better of this battle so far against 10th-placed Kent.

A big innings lead by stumps on day two will put pressure on Worcestershire.

The Pears are eighth and began their round just seven points clear of the two relegation spots on 70 points - and of course they have the added pressure of playing champions Surrey.

A Kent side minus Zak Crawley fell just short of a batting bonus point as Luke Wells and Nathan Lyon engineered a collapse that saw the hosts lose their last four wickets in nine overs for 14 runs.

Lyon must be among the most valuable overseas players of this Championship season, often bowling in damp, spin unfriendly conditions prior to this round - and yet still capturing 23 wickets at 28 so far.

  13. Woakes finds 'better rhythm' in red-ball returnpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 24 June

    Warwicks 51-2 v Hampshire 298 (play starts 11:00)

    Chris WoakesImage source, Getty Images

England pace bowler Chris Woakes admitted to some 'rustiness' following his first bowl of the season in the County Championship - and 100th in the competition for Warwickshire.

Woakes sent down 15 overs for figures of 1-36 as Warwickshire bowled out Hampshire on the opening day at Edgbaston.

"They were 120-1 and in a really strong position so to bowl them out for under 300 was really pleasing," he said.

"I did feel slightly rusty out there but I am fairly pleased with how it went. It would have been nice to get some more wickets but I felt in a better rhythm after lunch."

  14. Essex hope for early wickets on day twopublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 24 June

    Essex v Durham 445-4 (play starts 11:00)

    Tom WestleyImage source, Rex Features

Essex captain Tom Westley admitted it had been a "tough day at the office" after Durham piled up 445-4 on day one at Chelmsford.

South African Eathan Bosch took a couple of wickets on his Essex debut, but centuries by Alex Lees and Ollie Robinson - who remains on 146 not out - put the north-easterners on top.

"I can't recall many days when we've gone for 400 in a day throughout my whole career," Westley told BBC Essex Sport.

"Hopefully we'll get some wickets early on, wrap their innings up as quickly as possible and get batting. We can judge how good a wicket it is when they bowl on it."

  15. Big-hearted Aldridge 'just needs more consistency'published at 10:42 British Summer Time 24 June

    Notts 326-8 v Somerset (play starts 11:00)

    Kasey AldridgeImage source, Rex Features

Somerset bowling coach Steve Kirby praised Kasey Aldridge's "heart of a lion" after the young paceman took 4-90 on the opening day of the Championship game against Notts at Trent Bridge.

With skipper Lewis Gregory injured, Aldridge was included for his fourth Championship game of the season and he and Migael Pretorius (3-73) were the pick of the attack.

"It's nice that he's picked up four wickets but we want him to be a little more consistent from where he is - and he'll get that," said Kirby.

"He's always going to take wickets because he's got the heart of a lion, he works really hard and we've just got to help him string them together a little bit more."

  16. Simpson on course for second double centurypublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 24 June

    Sussex 431-7 v Leicestershire (play starts 11:00)

    John SimpsonImage source, Rex Features

John Simpson was delighted to again be "leading from the front" for Sussex as his unbeaten 180 helped the Division Two leaders exceed 400 runs on day one against Leicestershire.

It was Simpson's third Championship century since making the move to Hove from Middlesex - and followed an innings of 205 not out when they played the same opponents at Grace Road in April.

"When I get an opportunity, I try and dig in, keep things really simple and build a partnership with whoever that may be," he told BBC Sussex.

"If guys keep standing up with the bat, we're going to be in a fantastic position come the end of this game."

Adam Lyth returns to the dressing roomImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire batter Adam Lyth said his 307-run stand with Finlay Bean was "as good as it gets" in terms of opening partnerships following the opening day at Scarborough.

The pair established a new club record first-wicket stand against Gloucestershire, with Bean making 164 and Lyth 129.

"This is my home club, friends and family have come down to watch. I said to Beany out in the middle 'let's try and make this count," Lyth told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

"It wasn't a typical Scarborough wicket, there's wasn't a lot of seam movement... so (for him) to get 160, I was disappointed I didn't go on and make a similar contribution."

"Warm June sunshine in the forecast for today," says BBC Weather's Sarah Keith-Lucas. "Take a look at those temperatures, widely between 24 to 27 degrees."

In other words, it is expected to be another day of excellent cricketing weather, though whether bowlers who have to toil for hours on unresponsive surfaces will agree with that is questionable.

For the rest of us, put on your sunscreen and knotted hankies and enjoy the ride.

  20. Good morningpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 24 June

'Englishmen detest a siesta' opined the late Noel Coward.

We're not sure about that - no doubt there were a few people dotted around the grounds for round nine of the County Championship who found themselves nodding off for an afternoon nap on day one.

No such look for the players, though, and we saw 3,178 runs scored and 67 wickets taken - that's an average 47.4 per wicket.

Welcome to our coverage of day two. Play starts at 11:00.
