    Target 371

    Careful, Ben!

The England left-hander tries to ramp for the second time this morning and he's got a 0% success rate so far.

This time he might have done himself a bit of damage as well with the ball hitting him on the glove.

But he shakes it, goes more conventional and pulls firmly behind square for four. He was in complete control of that one.

That was a very good shot. With that length you might get driven at times, but it's still a good length for a fast bowler. You would prefer bowling there than bowl a short delivery.

    Crawley 26, Duckett 44

    Top shot!

Full ball, angling in at off stump from Prasidh Krishna and Ben Duckett drills it past mid-off for four.

55% of runs off the quicks have come behind square in this Test match - since 2006 only two Test matches in England have had a higher percentage of runs scored behind square.

Shardul Thakur will have to do his job here. He didn't bowl much in the first innings, but with the new ball, he needs to be patient. He can't be leaking runs.

  6. Eng 72-0published at 20 overs

    Target 371

Runs are starting to come a tad easier for England now.

They deal in singles in Shardul Thakur's latest, with Shubman Gill having given the seamer plenty of protection, but Crawley and Duckett are beginning to rotate the strike nicely.

In this game, India have achieved a combination that has never happened before in the history of cricket - five centuries and six ducks.

Prasidh Krishna is tall fast bowler and when he gets his length right, he is dangerous. These are the perfect conditions for him.

Duckett pulls shorter Krishna delivery through mid-wicket for four

Prasidh Krishna has started well. The first hour or so today suggests Jasprit Bumrah will have rather more help in the second innings than he did in the first.

But as I write that, Ben Duckett pulls through straight mid-wicket for four. Too short from Krishna, especially to the diminutive Duckett, who loves playing off the back foot.

I wonder how Shubman Gill is feeling. Your mind is often churning constantly before a day like today.

Jasprit Bumrah is doing the work again. Prasidh Krishna was impressive and if he keeps bowling like he has, he may get a wicket.

But it is a good start from England. They have been very smart in their approach and they have learnt from yesterday about when to go for runs.

"Easily" is the word I'd query there, Gus. On a day five pitch under leaden skies, floodlights on as well, I'd be shocked if England find what would be their second-highest chase in Tests easy.

This game has been full of gifted dismissals on both sides. If we can bat well and hold our nerve then we can easily chase this.

    Drinks - Eng 63-0published at 18 overs

    Target 371

    Poor ball from Shardul Thakur.

Round the wicket and angling down leg so Ben Duckett can just help it on its way down to the fine leg boundary.

A couple of singles complete the scoring for the over - and that's drinks.

England need another 308 runs to win with a required rate of 3.95 if they can get the overs in today.

This is right to bring on Shardul Thakur now. Usually he is consistent but he has been bowling quite wide recently. He needs some wickets here.

  16. Eng 57-0published at 17.1 overs

Shardul Thakur is into the attack after an impressive opening spell from Mohammed Siraj.

Zak Crawley drives the first ball firmly to mid-on for a single.

Duckett's ramp over the keeper shows that England are trying to put the pressure back on, despite the fact that India are bowling nicely.

India have bowled really well this morning and are unlucky not to have something to show for it. It's a little warning to England that it will be hard to start for any new batter coming in.

  19. Eng 56-0published at 17 overs

    Target 371

Cheers from the home crowd as a delivery from Prasidh Krishna is left by Ben Duckett outside off and scoops low, through the legs of Rishabh Pant for four byes.

That brings up the fifty partnership for the first wicket.

You get the sense that Duckett wants to get on with it now, playing and missing with a booming drive then again attempting to ramp.

Third time's the charm! Thrashed through extra cover for four on the drive.

This is one of those pitches where Crawley has got to realise that a new batter coming in on this is not going find it easy. In the first innings it was playing true, whereas now you have to work harder to get into it.

Crawley should be understanding it by now.
