'Not an easy one' - Pope drops leaping grab from Gill at extra cover

    Tough chance!

Shubman Gill punches Ben Stokes' penultimate delivery into the covers - it's flying above Ollie Pope and the England fielder can't hold on having got two hands on the ball at the very top of his leap.

The India batters run a single, moving Gill to 82, and KL Rahul blocks a full final delivery.

From what we have heard and there's no confirmation of this obviously but there have been a few minor disagreements between the senior management and Shubman Gill.

If India come through and save this game and if Shubman is there at the end, I suspect there is going to be a lot stronger voice that he is going to be able to assert himself and become his own man which is the first step that you take to become a respected and a well rounded leader.

KL Rahul works the England spinner for two through backward square, the only scoring shot of the over.

Ben Stokes is a big challenge for Indian batters especially when bowling from the end he is bowling from, the ball does tend to keep low and Stokes is someone who keeps hitting the stumps.

Even if it is one dimensional misbehaviour off the pitch, the batsmen can handle that. But when it it multidimensional then you are in trouble as a batsman.

    Ooooh, that kept low.

Ben Stokes' delivery shoots along the ground and strikes Shubman Gill on pad.

An appeal from the England captain but it's heading down the leg side and the captain heads back to his mark with a grin.

  6. Ind 175-2published at 64 overs

    Rahul 87, Gill 79

One run from the first over of the day, with Shubman Gill pushing Liam Dawson's third delivery through point.

Now, look who's taking off his jumper!

It's the skipper - Ben Stokes is throwing himself into the action straight away.

Much has been made of Liam Dawson's lack of wickets so far, but Cricviz's expected wickets model suggests he should have two victims so far. Overall, the metric suggests KL Rahul should have been dismissed three times, and Gill twice.

Prior to the first ball, Ben Stokes bowled a practice delivery on the strip next to the middle and has been loosening his right shoulder.

Liam Dawson needs to bowl it a little bit slower and try to get a kick out of the rough especially when the left handers come out and give the batsmen different things to combat.

All spinners seem adamant on bowling it quick and they become a tad bit predictable.

    Here's we go then.

Liam Dawson to bowl the first over of the day, the 64th of the innings, bowling to Shubman Gill.

The spinner had figures of 0-36 from 22 overs yesterday.

England gathered in a huddle on the boundary rope, arms around each other's shoulders.

It all looks pretty smiley as Ben Stokes has a few words with his side.

Throughout the team talk Harry Brook has his drinks bottle balanced on Ben Duckett's head.

How good are Shubman Gill and KL Rahul at restarting their innings in a morning session? Here's the figures:

    Shubman Gill:

    • 720 runs added
    • Average 55.3 added to overnight score

    KL Rahul:

This innings is 63 overs old, with a new ball available from the 80-over mark.

So you're probably looking at England getting the new cherry at about 12:20 BST.

That new ball is such a positive thing to have around the dressing room. But sometimes in a flat wicket, there is not much you can do.

Shubman Gill was more proactive and his feet are moving whilst looking to score and not just survive. Gill and KL Rahul have to get through the new ball and England have to at least get one of them with the new ball.

Archer bowls Pant for 54 to get his third wicket of the innings

Jofra Archer's record against left-handers is, as Prakash says, excellent.

In 14 previous Tests, he has dismissed 21 left-handers at an average of 21.7. Against right-handers, he has 29 wickets at 36.9.

If you look at the Indian batting order, other than the two out in the middle, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are the only ones who can provide some sort of resistance with Rishabh Pant limited due to his injuries.

But all three are left-handers and the rough outside will definitely come into play and Jofra Archer loves bowling to left-handers.

India resume on 174-2, with an innings total equivalent to that of Gill and Rahul's partnership having lost their two wickets without scoring in the opening over of the innings.

How will they fare on day five? BBC Test Match Special's Alison Mitchell and Phil Tufnell have been taking a look.

Trescothick 'hopeful' Stokes will bowl on day five

The good news for England fans is Ben Stokes has been running and bowling in the warm-up. The bad news is he did not look as free as on previous days.

Marcus Trescothick said last night Stokes didn’t bowl on day four because he is “stiff and sore”. He did not sound particularly confident the England captain would be fit to do so today.

India's two in-form batters stand in the way of an England series victory.

They batted out most of day four - how far can they take their side through day five?

If they can extend their 174-run partnership deep into the day then maybe India can secure a draw and keep the series alive going into the final Test at The Oval.

We've got a crucial morning session in store for us.
