Tensions rise as fourth Test ends in controversial draw

  1. Ind 245-4published at 94 overs

    Trail by 66 runs

A fine shot by Washington Sundar of the second ball of Jofra Archer's third over after lunch.

He leans over the top of a full delivery from the England fast bowler and effortlessly times a jab down the ground for four.

With three slips and two gullies in place Archer finishes the over with a beauty of a delivery which is angled in and straightens to beat Washington's poke.

This is excellent from India's perspective because they are scoring runs and reducing the deficit.

  3. Ind 240-4published at 93 overs

The bounce which Ben Stokes was perhaps hoping Liam Dawson might find with the new ball materialises with the first ball of his next over.

It climbs off the pitch and clips the pad of Washington Sundar before racing away for for four leg byes.

England's close fielders are poised around the bat for one which might come off the bat, but Washington is able to get through the remainder of the over unscathed.

England have bowled 843 overs in this series. This is the most overs they have bowled in the first four Tests of a series since 1964-65 in South Africa.

What seems to be happening is that the ball does a lot more in the morning session rather than the afternoon session. Maybe it's because of the dew and the moisture from the overnight that leads to more happening in the morning session.

  6. Ind 234-4published at 92 overs

A profitable over for India off Jofra Archer.

Ravindra Jadeja flaps at a short wide one from the England fast bowler and runs three.

A couple of deliveries later and Washington Sundar punches an aesthetically-pleasing drive through long-on for four.

Just a single off Liam Dawson's over, from Ravindra Jadeja, and not a lot else to report. Ben Stokes seems to have hunch, or does not want to bowl himself yet.

India have frequently lost wickets in the 10 minutes before the lunch interval in this series, which may be a huge factor as to why they are behind. Across all four Test matches so far, they are 62-10 (173 deliveries) between 12:50 and 13:00.

  10. Ind 223-4published at 90.2 overs

Hmmm, the ball is 10 overs old new but Ben Stokes decides to continue with Liam Dawson again after his one over before lunch.

Perhaps he's hoping for a bit of extra bounce with the harder ball. There are men round the bat.

  11. Ind 223-4published at 90 overs

A maiden to start from Jofra Archer as Washington Sundar picks his times to defend and leave.

England need to build up a bit of head of steam.

It wouldn't surprise me if Rishabh Pant comes out later and starts whacking a few balls and that might just galvanise the dressing room. If the vice captain can go out and perform with a busted foot then it might spur the whole dressing room on.

I wonder whether Shoaib Bashir's turn and bounce might have been the difference on a lifeless pitch like this?

However, England have dropped a couple of chances in the morning session...including a big one just before lunch when Joe Root juggled a chance from Ravindra Jadeja off Jofra Archer.

If you are just joining us, looking for an update, then I am happy to report that England managed to take two wickets in the morning session.

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, who both resumed their innings after finishing unbeaten last night, were snared by Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer for 90 and 103 respectively.

    Thanks, Mike.

I had just started to look up the first-class bowling statistics of England's top-order batters which suggests where I thought this game might be heading.

However, Jofra Archer's venom just before lunch prompted me to close the tab. A victory for England is not quite out of grasp just yet.

49 runs from that session, which lasted 26 overs.

India were resilient, but England have winkled out India's two key batters, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.

Time for me to hand you over to Timothy Abraham for lunch and the afternoon session.

The first morning spell from Liam Dawson was eight overs, two maidens 0-11. It was tidy and accurate but he only beat the bat twice.
