Tensions rise as fourth Test ends in controversial draw

  1. Ind 386-4published at 138 overs

    Lead by 75; Jadeja 89, Washington 80

A boundary for Washington Sundar, driving Joe Root through the covers.

Right, that's 15 overs left in the day - we can theoretically end the game from this point if both teams agree.

Ben Stokes seems to be looking to around, appealing to finish it.

India drinks come on - they've got batters approaching hundreds.

  2. Ind 382-4published at 137 overs

Hey, something's happened - Ravindra Jadeja edges Liam Dawson's delivery onto his pad and the ball just misses leg stump.

Meanwhile Dawson's final delivery somehow beats everyone and goes for four byes.

  3. Ind 377-4published at 136 overs

Washington Sundar tips Joe Root into the leg side for a single, the only scoring shot of the innings.

Rather soporific out there, as we creep closer to the point where the teams can shake hands.

  5. Ind 376-4published at 135 overs

Liam Dawson sends down five dot balls to Washington Sundar, before the all-rounder puts a single through point to retain the strike.

That takes him to 74 from 177 deliveries.

Quite a few fans are looking to beat the rush home at the tram stop right outside Old Trafford... but there are already queues forming on the platform.

A sure sign that hopes of an England win are now heading into the realms of highly unlikely.

Washington Sundar is not really showing any signs that he wants the 100 and even if a wicket falls now, I don't think it will necessarily energise England.

  8. Ind 375-4published at 134 overs

    Lead by 64

Two more fours for Ravindra Jadeja as he moves closer to his hundred.

He cracks Joe Root over his head, then just about breaches the boundary ropes at long-off.

That takes this partnership past 150.

In 20 minutes and five overs time, both sides could settle for a draw and call it a day. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are both closing in on a 100 with the latter never having scored one for his country.

So if India decide to play on, what Ben Stokes could do is send all his fast bowlers to the dressing room and bring on substitute fielders and have Zak Crawley and others bowl to them.

  11. Ind 367-4published at 133 overs

    20 overs remaining

Liam Dawson switches ends to replace Jofra Archer, so we now have spin at both ends.

Washington Sundar pushes him for two through the covers, his first runs in a few overs.

It was a good few metres away from Jofra Archer at mid-on. Another good strike from Ravindra Jadeja.

    Down the ground!

Four for Ravindra Jadeja, cracking Joe Root over the close fielders.

    He moves to 81.

I can offer our apologies to David Gower and indeed our colleagues covering the Women's Euros, who are trying to cover a massive final with our trivialities pouring into our shared inbox.

Jofra Archer continues, with Ravindra Jadeja taking a single off his legs.

India now lead by 50 runs.

I've just got a message from David Gower - "Tuned into TMS and the first thing I hear is David Gower and the golden ducks. Lawyers have been instructed with the reminder than one of the very few records I still hold is the number of consecutive innings without a duck (119)."

This is in response to the Get Involved that has cricketer's names combined with cricket terminology.

  17. Ind 360-4published at 130 overs

Joe Root replaces Liam Dawson - not quite part-timer enough for my liking, where's Zak Crawley? Imagine how high his release point is.

Ravindra Jadeja faces five balls without scoring then cuts through point for three.

I think this Test is a fair reflection of how the series have gone, you could argue that India have won more days but England have been better with winning the moments and that is why they are up in the series.

  20. Ind 357-4published at 129 overs

    Lead by 46

Jofra Archer again, conceding one single through backward square from Ravindra Jadeja.

I'll be intrigued to see how many more overs Archer bowls, given his injury history.

Breaking down here for the sake of this cause probably isn't worth it.
