I am slightly surprised that Shardul Thakur hasn't had a bowl. But he is perhaps someone that needs help from the overhead conditions.

That said, you do sometimes have to do something out of the ordinary and try a different idea.

Joe Root's rhythm and tempo are two things he does so well. His first nine or 10 balls were shaky but now he is finding his feet.

  3. Eng 143-2published at 36 overs

Ollie Pope spoils the chance of a Mohammed Siraj maiden, taking a run into covers and then running another off an overthrow.

It's a sunny evening at Headingley by the way, after that bit of rain in the middle of the day.

You would often describe the start of Ollie Pope's innings as jittery but this wasn't the case today. Because he is in more control, he can play the ball a bit later.

He has been really impressive so far.

Say it very quietly but England played very sensibly in seeing off a quality Bumrah spell!

You can see why he gave it but it nipped a lot more than the umpire thought.

Root lbw dismissal overturned thanks to ball tracking

    Heading down!

Joe Root was batting outside his crease so there was room for the ball to carry on past the leg stump.

The England batter then defends the final delivery of the over.

This is cricket to savour. Probably the best bowler in the world testing one of the best batsmen in the world.

Every single delivery you feel like Jasprit Bumrah is making something happen and it is going to be a wicket delivery.

  15. Ind 137-2published at 33 overs

Eeesh, Bumrah cuts through Root with a delivery that hoops in a fair bit to pass between bat and pad.

The India seamer throws his hands up ready to celebrate and smiles ruefully.

Root then squeezes two into square leg with an inside edge.

India are looking a little bit clearer in their plans. It felt they didn't have much purpose in the first session but they have come together now.

If they nick a couple then they take a stride in the game.

Huge let off for Pope there. Jaiswal scored a magnificent ton, but its catches that win matches!

That was one of Ollie Pope's late cuts and it hit Jaiswal's right hand hard. A good effort. That's two chances India have put down.
