Summary

  1. Phoenix 15-0published at 90 balls left

    160 runs needed

Seamer Marizanne Kapp takes the ball for the second set of five deliveries, and Georgia Voll sends her opening ball away for four through backward square.

The opener picks up another boundary two balls later, lofting the ball untidily over mid-off and seeing it just about make the ropes.

Across the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Women's Hundred, only two batting sides have a lower average facing left-arm spin than Birmingham Phoenix's 19.1.

  3. Phoenix 6-0published at 95 balls left

    169 runs needed

Four singles from Sophia Smale's first four balls, before Georgia Voll helps a leg-side delivery down to fine leg for two.

This is Phoenix's third match this year - Voll has previously made scores of 19 and 10 in her debut season in The Hundred.

Birmingham Phoenix have got to get themselves off to an absolute flyer in this powerplay, whilst the field is up.

I think they will need around 50 runs from these first 25 balls to give themselves a good chance of chasing this total down.

    Thanks Matt.

And I, in turn, am lucky to guide you all through it.

Time to get going, young spinner Sophia Smale is going to open the bowling for Oval Invincibles, with Georgia Voll and Emma Lamb opening the batting for Birmingham Phoenix.

    They're chasing 175.

While Perry is seen as the main batting hope for the hosts, Marizanne Kapp is rated number two in The Hundred player rankings devised by CricViz.

They wrote pre-tournament: "Not only is Kapp the most potent new-ball bowler in the women's game, she is also the most economical established pace bowler in the competition's history.

"Her 37 Hundred wickets have come at an eye-watering average of 12 - no bowler in the world has more Powerplay wickets than Kapp's 185."

  8. Perry ready to light up Edgbaston?published at 16:18 BST 12 August

She might be done with the ball, but Ellyse Perry is rated as the third-best batter in The Hundred this year by Cricviz, behind Nat Sciver-Brunt and Beth Mooney.

They write: "Don't bowl short to Perry. In her T20 career, Perry averages 202.5 against short-pitched bowling, whilst striking at 183 off such deliveries. Typically dismissed every 111 bumpers she faces, it would be a huge gamble to try and bounce the Australian all-rounder out in an innings that is a maximum of 100 deliveries.

"Of course, a player of Perry's calibre doesn't just have a single strength that oppositions need to be wary of, but one minor chink in her batting armoury is facing left-arm seamers.

"It's all relative to the player's own standards, but Perry averages 35.1 against left-arm quicks in T20 cricket, a fair drop off from her 50+ average against right-arm seam and both leg-spinners and off-spinners."

A brilliant 100 balls from the Oval Invincibles.

Birmingham Phoenix will feel a little bit shell-shocked as they walk off, but if they are ever going to break their record of 161 runs then this looks like the wicket you could do it on.

Birmingham Phoenix have found their plan, but it's a little bit too late!

They should have made Alice Capsey hit towards that big area on the right-hand leg side earlier on in this innings. She had already done the damage though.

The change of plan comes too late. Birmingham Phoenix force Capsey to pull towards the bigger boundary and she knew as soon as she hit it.

Still, after a tricky run of form, the 20-year-old has put Invincibles in command.
