England’s seamers have been far more accurate in the powerplay today in Bristol and are reaping the rewards, with three crucial wickets.

33% of their balls in the powerplay today hit a good line and length, compared to just 9% at Trent Bridge.

  2. Ind 38-3published at 7 overs

England introduce Sophie Ecclestone as the fielders go back, and England concede just three singles off her first over.

It's a big win for England to have dominated this powerplay, particularly after how poorly they bowled and fielded last Saturday. They have put it right at the first time of asking.

  4. Ind 35-3published at 6 overs

Out comes Amanjot Kaur, who has also been promoted above Richa Ghosh today.

She takes a single to fine leg before Rodrigues gets two over mid-wicket.

That's the end of the powerplay - it's been England's today, India were 47-0 at the same stage on Saturday.

It's a big, big moment at the start of the sixth over. It was just helped on its way by Harmanpreet Kaur and there was a tumbling Lauren Filer to take the catch.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.1 overs

    Harmanpreet c Filer b Bell 1 (Ind 31-3)

A short return to the crease for Harmanpreet Kaur!

A change of ends for Lauren Bell and she immediately picks up the wicket of the India captain.

Harmanpreet simply pulls the delivery around the corner, where it's taken by Lauren Filer at short fine-leg, just above the ground.

She heads back to the dug-out in disbelief - it perhaps didn't bounce quite as high as she anticipated.

  7. Ind 31-2published at 5 overs

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur arrives and she takes a single to point to get off the mark.

Lauren Bell didn't look entirely comfortable but did really well in the end. In fact, she almost overran it and crumbles to the ground after taking the catch.

She has been involved in some pivotal moments for England on the field already this summer.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.4 overs

    Mandhana c Bell b Arlott 13 (Ind 30-2)

Plucked from the air by Lauren Bell - there'll be no big score for Smriti Mandhana today!

A third bowler in three overs at this end as Em Arlott replaces Bell, and the seamer sees her second ball dispatched through the covers for four by Rodrigues.

A single brings Mandhana on strike and Saturday's centurion immediately chips the ball high towards mid-on.

The ball would have passed over most other fielders, but Bell is tall and she takes the catch two-handed on the leap.

A big breakthrough in this match.

India certainly not scoring at the pace they did at Trent Bridge, but it's different conditions here in Bristol today.

I don't even think Jemimah Rodrigues timed it that perfectly, but it's another benefit of Lauren Filer's extra pace.

  12. Ind 25-0published at 4 overs

Rodrigues gets her first boundary, slashing Filer's delivery between point and cover.

The England seamer then sends down a bouncer that's called a wide for height, but follows that with another sharp short ball that beats the India batter.

It's a fantastic first over from Lauren Bell.

  14. Ind 19-1published at 3 overs

Yes, Lauren Bell immediately replaces Alice Capsey for the third over.

Mandhana and Rodrigues take a single apiece through point with just two scored from Bell's first six balls.

England are now going with pace from both ends with Lauren Bell and it's a bit of a different challenge for India.

The short ball is often a target used by seam bowlers to target Shafali Verma especially early in her innings.

63% of her dismissals against pace in T20I cricket have come against the short ball, where she averages just 16 (strike-rate 111) - comfortably her poorest returns of any length of bowling.

  17. Ind 17-1published at 2 overs

Jemimah Rodrigues comes in at number three for India, that's two places higher than Saturday.

She's moved up into the place of the omitted Harleen Deol and leapfrogged Richa Ghosh as well.

She can't reach her first delivery, which is called a wide, but aerially punts the follow-up into a gap at backward square and runs a single.

That's a lovely, lovely bit of bowling from Lauren Filer.

In all fairness to Shafali Verma, I don't know how she could have played that. It shows what Filer's extra pace can do.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.4 overs

    Verma c Jones b Filer 3 (Ind 14-1)

    An early wicket for England!

Shafali Verma advances down the pitch to a Lauren Filer bouncer and finds herself cramped for room.

The ball edges off the shoulder of her horizontal bat and wicketkeeper Amy Jones takes the catch above her head.

Spin was the real differential in the first match of the series, with India spin bowlers far outperforming England’s.

    • India’s spinners: 8-67 (11 overs)
    • England’s spinners: 1-104 (8 overs)
