  1. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham v Somerset 144-8

A flurry of scoring by Migael Pretorius - none of it totally convincing - takes him into the 40s at the Riverside.

He drives at a ball from Ben Raine and the ball runs down to third man off the edge and then, when he tries to pull the next delivery, he is slightly early on the shot and it comes off the back of the bat and down to fine leg.

    They all count, though.

  2. Play resumes in Southamptonpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants 4-0 Surrey 127

How will Surrey respond after that stunning afternoon session?

They lost six wickets after lunch for just 28 runs.

Dan Worrall opens up for Surrey to Toby Albert who is standing in for the injured Ali Orr.

Albert is making his first start of the season and is happy to leave that first over alone. Worrall gets his fifth ball all wrong and it flies past Jamie Smith for four byes.

  3. wicket

WICKET: Yates b Bailey 19published at 14:57 British Summer Time 24 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 38-1

The breakthrough. Off-stump goes cartwheeling away as Rob Yates shoulders arms. Tom Bailey gets the wicket but Yates won't want to watch this one again. It's not done anything of note. Just carried on into the top of off stump.

Huge bonus for Lancs who looked a little short of ideas. Another promising start from Warwickshire's opening pair goes begging.

Will Rhodes joins Alex Davies in the middle.

  4. 'We could be in for a low-scoring game'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 127

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

There's a little bit more happening for the bowlers here and I'm sure for Surrey that will be the case as well.

We could be in for a low-scoring game over the course of four days.

You have to say at the moment it's probably looking like a three-day finish but you never know. Once the ball gets a little older, a little softer then all of a sudden the batters do tend to get on top.

  5. SURREY ALL OUT FOR 127published at 14:51 British Summer Time 24 May

    Steel b Neser 5

Surrey's misery is over - they have lost their last nine wickets for 63 runs.

There's nothing Cameron Steel could do about that as Michael Neser comes up with an absolute jaffa to hit the top of off-stump. Every pace bowler's dream ball.

Neser finishes with 2-39 on his debut, but the day (so far) belongs to Kyle Abbott who ends with figures of 5-25 off 11 after his remarkable post-lunch spell.

What can Hampshire do with the bat?

  6. Postpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 24 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 35-0

That's a lovely little flick off his hips for four from Rob Yates after Tom Bailey strays down the leg side once again.

He follows it up with a glorious drive through the covers for another boundary a couple of balls later.

That's seven fours in the total of 35 for Warwickshire from nine overs.

Bright and breezy start, once again. But can they build a bigger platform than they have done in recent weeks?

  7. wicket

WICKET Byrom b Salisbury 86published at 14:49 British Summer Time 24 May

    Leics v Glam 190-3

    Eddie ByromImage source, Rex Features

    Boy did Leicestershire need that!

Fresh from whacking a six off Matt Salisbury, two balls later Eddie Byrom is presented with a wide, juicy half-volley, but drags it onto his off stump.

A fine 135-ball innings comes to an end but he will be gutted he hasn't cashed in with a ton.

Glamorgan skipper Sam Northeast is next man in.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Brooke Guestpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glos v Derbys 201-3

Brooke Gues has three 70 + scores already this season and there is another half-century - this one taking 96 balls - as he clips Matt Taylor through square leg for four.

Taylor responds by finding the edge, but it falls just in front of first slip and runs away to the rope at third man.

Four leg-byes at the start of Ed Middleton's next over takes the total past 200.

  9. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 127-9

Kyle Abbotts leaks a boundary to last man Dan Worrall. Relief.

Then he gets some outrageous late swing from his final ball of the over which pitches outside off and Ben Brown dives to his left to take it outside leg.

Liam Dawson - remember him? - concedes a single to Cam Steel from his 14th over.

  10. 'Abbott becomes lead wicket taker at the Bowl'published at 14:47 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 118-8

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

That puts Kyle Abbott in the lead with the most wickets on this ground and he now has 187.

The player who slips down to second place is Dimitri Mascarenhas.

Mascarenhas got his 186th red ball wicket in cricket in 68 matches. Kyle Abbott is playing his 49th match here.

  11. Postpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 24 May

    Northants v Yorkshire 128-1

It's been nine overs since we had a boundary at Wantage Road, but there is one as Adam Lyth drives through backward point and progresses to 74 not out. Yorkshire captain has 15 from 47 balls at the other end.

  12. wicket

WICKET Coles c Davies b Bamber 33published at 14:41 British Summer Time 24 May

    Middx v Sussex 164-4

James Coles pokes at an Ethan Bamber ball outside off stump which holds its line.

It catches the outside edge and Jack Davies tumbles to his right to take a fine diving one-handed catch.

It breaks a 72-run partnership with Chet Pujara.

John Simpson comes to the crease.

  13. Five-wicket haul for Kyle Abbottpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 120-9

    Kyle AbbottImage source, Rex Features

This is just incredible! Five wickets in 55 minutes after lunch for Kyle Abbott!

He bowls Gus Atkinson neck and crop for two with one that nips back in and takes middle and off.

    That's 5-20 - since lunch he's taken 5-12 in six overs. Daft!

    Worrall is Surrey's last hope.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Elgar St Finch b Parkinson 77published at 14:38 British Summer Time 24 May

    Kent v Essex 146-1

He didn't even look back. A very uncharacteristic charge down the track from Dean Elgar, trying to play leg-spinner Matt Parkinson back over his head.

He needs to hit the ball for that, though. He misses, Harry Finch is quick as a flash behind the timbers, off come the bails and Elgar continues his walk towards the pavilion.

He'll feel he has left a lot of runs out there.

Tom Westley is the new man.

  15. wicket

WICKET Abbott c Brown b Abbott 10published at 14:34 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 118-8

    What's this?

Kyle Abbott bowls his first loose ball of a metronomic spell and Sean Abbott cracks it through the covers for four

And repeat. Same ball, same result as Abbott forces it off the back foot for four more.

    But there it is!

Emboldened, Abbott goes fishing and edges Abbott's next ball behind to wicketkeeper Ben Brown.

That's 4-18 and his 187th wicket at the Hampshire home, eclipsing the mark set by Dimitri Mascarenhas.

  16. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 24 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 25-0

Alex Davies is settling in, back in familiar surroundings.

He left Old Trafford for Edgbaston before the 2022 season but has already reached three figures against his former employers and has started nicely again here, taking Tom Bailey to the fence twice in three balls.

Rob Yates getting in on the act off George Balderson too. Five boundaries in their 25-0 inside six overs.

  17. wicket

WICKET Banton c Lees b Raine 36published at 14:33 British Summer Time 24 May

    Durham v Somerset 119-8

Tom Banton has looked by far and away the most assured Somerset batter today.

But now he is gone, in disappointing fashion, chipping a catch to mid-wicket off Ben Raine.

Migael Pretorius is 22 not out and has now been joined by Josh Davey.

Ben Stokes will return to the fray for the next over.

  18. Postpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 24 May

Worcestershire v Nottinghamshire - no play on Friday

Earlier on, we told you that there would be no play today in Worcestershire's home game against Nottinghamshire because of a damp patch on the outfield.

The groundstaff even went as far as to cut patches from the turf and dry them in front of a heater - which is not something you see every day in county cricket.

Dan Pallett will be reporting live from New Road on BBC Midlands Today from 18:30 BST.

    Drying turf at New Road
  19. Postpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 24 May

    Glos v Derbys 175-3

Leg-spin now at Bristol, with Ed Middleton into the attack.

He is fractionally short in his latest over and Matt Lamb leans back and belts it over mid-wicket for four.

    Lamb is 65 not out.

  20. Abbott chases recordpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 24 May

    Hants v Surrey 109-7

    Could have been four.

Kyle Abbott pins Cam Steel in front and lets out an enormous roar!

But the umpire signals his belief it was going down leg. Abbott cannot believe that!

He needs one more wicket to become the leading wicket-taker on this ground. He has 186.

Felix Organ almost obliges the South African with a wonderful diving effort as Sean Abbott looks to swings his namesake around the corner. It just evades the dive and goes for a single,
