  1. Eng 54-2published at 17 overs

Two fours in three balls for Joe Root off Mohammed Siraj.

He lashes a shot through the covers, where a chasing Ravindra Jadeja can't stop the ball reaching the ropes, then adds another boundary through mid-wicket.

Looks like our openers were so focused on batting Deep that they just weren’t Reddy post drinks

England have a false shot percentage of 38.4% so far this morning. This is the highest percentage in the first 15 overs by a team electing to bat first in England in the last 10 years.

The start of the game isn't always when the new ball starts to make its mark, it's later on.

This pitch feels completely different now.

Stokes should have stuck to his guns and bowled first again.

  6. Eng 45-2published at 16 overs

Just a single from Nitish Kumar Reddy's second over as Joe Root pushes towards point to get off the mark.

Both England's batters are on one, it's the start of a rebuild.

England's openers came through a first hour against Bumrah, Siraj and Deep. Wasn't pretty, but they got through it. Change bowler, one caught down the leg side, one gets a trimmer. What a sport.

Like many, I have been critical of Crawley's approach - but that was an absolute jaffa! Sometimes that happens. Ben Duckett however will be fuming getting out like that... Root to the rescue again then?

    Ok. That’s it. Ban drinks!

    Easy now, Ollie.

The England batter nudges at Mohammed Siraj's first delivery and edges just short of the slips.

The rest of the over are dots too - a second maiden for Siraj in four overs.

Reddy's opening over to remember as India get their breakthrough

What an over that is. Two wickets and a dropped catch.

Reddy steams in with a lovely action. Just a thin edge and India are all up for it.

But now India do have their second wicket!

Having navigated the first hour successfully, both England's openers depart in the over after drinks as Nitish Kumar Reddy picks up his second.

It's a superb delivery that removes Zak Crawley, swinging late and taking an edge that Rishabh Pant gobbles up behind the stumps.

That would've been a worldie of a catch, one handed at gully.

Can we just settle down a little bit?

  15. dropped catch

Pope dropped on noughtpublished at 13.4 overs

Ollie Pope almost goes from his first delivery!

The England number three drives loosely towards Shubman Gill at gully and the India captain can't quite hold on just above the ground.

A tough chance, but a chance.

Duckett will be livid about losing his chance to capitalise to such a loose delivery. Do we think Pope can get some redemption here??!

Disappointing to lose that one. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looked good together, so that one hurts.

Ben Duckett is out. There was a fine feather from that short one from Reddy, and Duckett is seriously deflated as he walks back to the dressing room.

'He's seriously deflated' - Duckett caught behind off Reddy

Four and gone - India have the breakthrough just after drinks!

Nitish Kumar Reddy comes into the attack, replacing Jasprit Bumrah, and Ben Duckett tucks his second ball away past mid-wicket for a boundary.

The England opener departs from the next delivery though - gloving behind attempting a pull shot, and Rishabh Pant takes a catch down the leg side.
