In recognition of the masterful live reporting capabilities of 'two-first-names' Mike Peter, can we compile a 'two-first-names' Test XI. I'll start us off with Devon Malcolm...

Ian in the beautiful Malvern Hills in Worcestershire.

15 out of England's first 36 deliveries of this innings were false shots (had a play and miss, or edge).

    Eng 39-0published at 13 overs

Ben Duckett takes two through backward square and, having pushed Mohammed Siraj's delivery out to long-off, looks to set off for another couple.

Unfortunately Zak Crawley falls over having completed the first run, so they'll only take a single.

That's the first hour done, and the players will take drinks.

With 1.8 degrees of swing in the first hour, Jasprit Bumrah has found more lateral movement this morning than any bowler with the new ball so far this series.

Jasprit Bumrah is bowling well but the Indian bowlers will have to find a way to hit the stumps because, even with a good length, it's hard to hit them on this pitch.

They'll have to find a different way of taking wickets.

  6. Eng 36-0published at 12 overs

Ben Duckett gets a single off Jasprit Bumrah, with the ball breaking through the gully fielder.

Bumrah then strikes Zak Crawley with a big in-swinger - there's some chat but India decide not to review.

Rightly so, that was missing leg.

I understand the frustration with Crawley's dismissals - but three years ago the issue was always finding ourselves 30-3. Since this opening batting partnership took over, these sorts of scorelines are no longer the norm.

Zak Crawley went for a shot that wouldn't be out of place in the last over of a T20 there.

  10. Eng 35-0published at 11 overs

Another big swing from Zak Crawley!

He charges Mohammed Siraj's second delivery but gets nowhere near it, and the India seamer sends down four more dots to pick up a maiden.

I've enjoyed the old fashioned start to this innings. Openers being given a tough time by two quality and skillful bowlers early on and having to battle through it. Bit of movement but pitch looks good if they can get through it. Quality stuff.

Under Stokes and McCullum, England have batted first 16 times in Tests - winning nine and losing seven.

  13. Eng 35-0published at 10 overs

Ah, Bumrah's changing ends, replacing Akash Deep.

England's openers take a single apiece from his fifth over.

The pitch has a bit more bounce on it. This one is slightly different to what we're used to seeing and the Indian bowlers are trying to find the right length to hit the stumps.

The England batters are trying to put pressure on the bowlers now. The sun is out, so it will only get better for the batters.

Zak Crawley is easy on the eye when he strikes it from the off stump. The issue is his strength can also be his weakness.

  16. Eng 33-0published at 9 overs

A first change in the India attack as Mohammed Siraj replaces Jasprit Bumrah at the pavilion end.

Zak Crawley drives him for four too, through the covers once again.

Having had one run to Duckett's 13 two overs ago, Crawley now leads his opener partner 17 to 14.

Crawley only had one run off his first 19 deliveries, then hit three straight boundaries. India have got the ball to nibble, but it's to England's credit that they have got through. For now...

Dismissive from Zak Crawley for that boundary. He reacted to that ball and a lot of us have seen a lot of him, I wonder if he does overthink things a little bit.

  20. Eng 28-0published at 8 overs

The run of maidens comes to an end as Akash Deep's fourth over goes for 13 runs.

Zak Crawley lashes a no ball to the off side boundary and then, having defended the follow-up, gets fours from the next two deliveries.

An edge flies over the slips, before a back foot drive through the covers also reaches the ropes.
