'Absolute madness!' - Gill run out trying to force quick single

  1. Ind 199-6published at 61 overs

Ollie Pope turns back to Gus Atkinson.

Washington Sundar and Karun Nair pick up a quick single apiece. Nair's a little bit dicey - if Josh Tongue had fielded it cleanly, it could have been curtains at the non-striker's end.

Jacob Bethell is whirling his arms around in the field.

It's been weird watching Josh Tongue today.

  3. Ind 197-6published at 60 overs

Another over of randomness from Josh Tongue.

His first two deliveries are wayward, with the first guided square for four by Washington Sundar. The fourth is short and Washington dodges out of the way. He finishes with a full toss to Karun Nair and the ball flies away for four.

Nair (48) is closing in on a half-century and 200 is nearly up for India. This partnership is up to 44 (64).

As we draw to a close, England will be pleased. The thing that will be a bigger worry for them will be the injury to Chris Woakes.

  5. Ind 188-6published at 59 overs

Wave after wave of runners are charging past our office window. It's like handkerchiefs out of a magician's sleeve - they just keep coming.

Washington Sundar drags my attention back to the cricket, driving through a gap in the offside. Gus Atkinson chases hard and stops the ball from reaching the rope. India run three. Good effort all round.

  6. Ind 184-6published at 58 overs

A maiden for Josh Tongue. His third of the day.

  7. Ind 184-6published at 57 overs

The 57th over finishes with a single. We're into the final half hour of day one.

That definitely doesn't look right. You can see he's in a lot of pain and the grimace on his face tells a story.

Chris Woakes dived full length and landed on his shoulder. He's in a great deal of pain out there.

It looks to be a bad injury. Oh dear.

  11. Ind 183-6published at 56.5 overs

This could be serious for Chris Woakes.

After a long chase, he dives to stop a boundary, flicks the ball away from the rope, and lands awkwardly on his shoulder. He stays on the ground and the physio is quickly by his side.

Josh Tongue is even more dangerous because he's been so erratic. As a batter, you don't know what's coming next and every now and then he'll play an unplayable delivery.

He's got a few wickets from some absolute jaffas.

  13. Ind 179-6published at 56 overs

Karun Nair runs two to move onto 40 - his joint-highest score of the series.

The camera keeps picking out England captain Ollie Pope. With all that hair sticking out underneath the back of his cap, he's reminding me of early era Frasier Crane. It's quite distracting.

Jamie Overton has his hands on his hips. Later in the over, he's raising an arm in despair. He's very much in the hunt for a wicket but no joy so far.

Karun Nair punishes the over's bad ball, flicking it away for four. Cool as you like.

  15. Ind 170-6published at 54 overs

Josh Tongue sends several balls down a wide line outside off. Karun Nair opts to waft at them, not connecting but sending jitters through the slip cordon.

He picks up a single off the penultimate delivery.

Here we go. Josh Tongue - and the way he's bowled today, anything can happen.

  17. Ind 169-6published at 53 overs

Jamie Overton beats the bat of Karun Nair. He's spent quite a lot of today with a slightly pained "ohhhhhh" expression across his face.

It happens again, this time to Washington Sundar. He turns to the umpire, arms pleading. Captain Ollie Pope shakes his head. The replay shows a gap between bat and ball.

Gus Atkinson is charging in, I think it's his second or third no ball. He's tried to chase Washington Sundar a little bit and he's got his line slightly wrong.

  20. Ind 168-6published at 52 overs

Washington Sundar gets off the mark with a four, flicking the ball off his legs. And it's a no ball - Gus Atkinson's fourth of the day.

Jamie Smith and the slips are in the shadows, the batter is sunlit.
