'Absolute madness!' - Gill run out trying to force quick single

  1. Ind 148-5published at 48 overs

It would have been umpire's call had England been able to review so no big drama.

With play possible until 19:30 BST because of the rain, the players are going to pause for a drink.

That is high and it's ballooned off the knee roll. Dhruv Jurel is not the tallest, so I'd want to see ball tracking on that.

  3. Ind 147-5published at 47.4 overs

Is Ahsan Raza is the biggest 'not out' umpire around?

Up Gus Atkinson and England go for an lbw against Dhruv Jurel. High? Maybe.

It doesn't matter anyway because it's a no-ball from Atkinson.

Another clip from Dhruv Jurel adds two more to India's total and Chris Woakes' figures. Woakes looks tired as he puts on his cap. He has done a lot of this bowling nonsense he calls work over the past few weeks.

  5. Ind 141-5published at 46.1 overs

India wicketkeeper Jurel takes Chris Woakes off his hip with a timely, pointing-proving flick.

  6. Ind 137-5published at 46 overs

I rate Dhruv Jurel. He's compact, looks to always have time and can play some powerful yet technically-sound strokes. His start has been careful here but it will enthuse the dressing room.

Josh Tongue, going around the wicket to the Indian left-hand duo Sudharsan and Jadeja, has bowled two brilliant deliveries to dismiss them. Though separated by exactly two meters in length, both the deliveries were pitched on the exact same off-stump line with precision, forcing the batters to play at them.

'Absolute beauty!' - Tongue dismisses Sudharsan for 38

Josh Tongue is carving out a new niche in international fast bowling. Bowl like you play for a local pub team then from nowhere send down a worldie. Very cunning. Not sure it will get him on the plane to Australia though.

    Martin, Derby

Fair play, not seen these tactics before. "Right lads, bowl like you've never seen a cricket ball in your life for about four balls and then hit them with a great delivery".

Liam Dawson is on the field as a substitute. I wonder how he's feeling about being left out again. Tough school.

Gus Atkinson has been the pick of the bowlers with his one wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

  11. Ind 132-5published at 44 overs

If Gus Atkinson ends this day with fewer wickets than Josh Tongue, he will wonder what he has done wrong. Atkinson has been the pick and he completed that run-out of Shubman Gill.

His comeback over is another maiden, his sixth in 13 overs.

Almost another! Karun Nair inside edges Chris Woakes by his stumps.

Nair has made plenty of starts in this series. England will feel in the game.

You get the feeling there could be a bowl out today if England get it in the right areas because it is moving a bit.

Where is the nearest dry cleaners to The Oval? Jamie Smith may be coming to you tonight. He dives full-length again to catch yet another down the leg side from Tongue.

Tongue is smiling, I think through embarrassment. He has two wickets but has bowled some shockers.

A full toss is rescued by the diving Jacob Bethell too.

  16. Ind 123-5published at 41 overs

Jamie Smith has had quite the day, throwing himself left and right to try and stop this wayward bowling.

Now he gets one that swings after the bat from Chris Woakes. For a moment it looked like there was an edge, so great was the movement, but the reactions of the fielders suggest otherwise.

India remain stuck on the best score in cricket.

  17. Ind 123-5published at 40 overs

    Nair 12, Jurel 0

Dhruv Jurel has done a lot of wicketkeeping in this series after the injuries to Rishabh Pant but now he's out for his first bat.

How do you describe this Josh Tongue effort? Mixed does not do it justice.

There's the beauty we were talking about. An absolute ripper from Josh Tongue to Ravindra Jadeja. A super delivery that got Sai Sudharsan out as well.

He's giggling to himself a little bit because I think he knows he's been a bit wayward but he's got two.

    He's done it again!

Filth followed by filth from Josh Tongue but then he gets it right and it's an absolute pearler to Ravindra Jadeja. The India all-rounder, a constant thorn in England's side, can only nick it behind like Sai Sudharsan did.

It's remarkable bowling from Tongue really and I don't really mean that in a good way.

All the time in the world for a player like Ravindra Jadeja to ease that uppercut. Get any real bat on it and it's off.
