  1. 'Cox lights up overcast Hove'published at 13:28 British Summer Time 23 July

    Lunch: Sussex 204 v Essex 301-4

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A largely overcast morning has been lit up by a magnificent century by Jordan Cox.

Starting the day on 24, Cox has mixed solid defence with an array of attacking shots all round the wicket, and has looked in complete control

His century contained 19 boundaries and together with Matt Critchely the pair have added over 100 for the fifth wicket.

Sussex haven’t helped their own cause with some loose bowling conceding almost five an over, but take nothing away from Cox, it’s been a high class innings.

  2. Postpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 23 July

    Yorkshire 308-4 v Surrey

That really is a shot of the highest quality.

Matt Fishes bowls a fourth-stump line, slightly back of a length and Jonny Bairstow has the skill to deliberately send it past a wide slip down to the boundary for four.

The ball was not far off his stumps and he was good enough to manipulate it. That shows why he played 100 Tests and so many white-ball internationals.

  3. 300 runs

300 up for Yorkshirepublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 23 July

    Yorkshire 301-4 v Surrey

    Here's Jonny!

A fine way to bring up Yorkshire's 300 as Jonny Bairstow hits Dan Worrall for successive offside fours.

It's classic Bairstow as he eyes up the width and those powerful hands do the rest as the ball flies across the outfield on both occasions.

The skipper is now up to 33 and his team has two batting points.

  6. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 23 July

    Warwickshire 16-3 v Worcestershire 333

Worcestershire's morning no doubt about it as they added 71 to their overnight total thanks in no small part by Ethan Brookes' career-best 140.

It was then Khurram Shahzad's time to shine as he took three Warwickshire wickets in quick succession to leave the hosts wobbling on 16-3 at lunch.

The Pears wouldn't have wanted the interval to come and will hope it won't slow their momentum but the hosts desperately need the break to plan a rebuild.

  7. Lunch at Utilita Bowlpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 387-6

A Jack Haynes century and some glorious ball striking from Lyndon James lit up the Utilita Bowl this morning.

Haynes was eventually out for 103, becoming Kyle Abbott's third victim, but James (95*) is edging towards a century and has been given a life when dropped in the slips by Felix Organ.

That's a third catch in the cordon which has gone down for the home side who, I will remind you, won the toss and chose to bowl.

  8. Lunch at Cheltenhampublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 23 July

    Gloucestershire v Lancashire 415-8

Gloucestershire must have fancied their chances when Graeme van Buuren grabbed wickets in his first two overs this morning.

But Chris Green and Tom Hartley have added an unbroken 113 for the ninth wicket and are turning the screw for Lancashire.

Green is two short of a ton and Hartley has 53 and they are batting the Red Rose into a fine position.

  9. Play under way in Scarboroughpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 23 July

    Yorkshire 290-4 v Surrey

We begin two hours late on the Yorkshire coast and Matt Revis gets off the mark with a super square drive off Dan Worrall for four.

Remember, we hopefully can have 83 overs of cricket today in Scarbados!

  10. Lunch at Derbypublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 23 July

    Derbys 6-1 v Leics 398

Eight wickets went down this morning including Leicestershire losing their last five for only 10 runs.

Luis Reece was the star of that first session, finishing with 6-56 from his 25 overs after we had seen Peter Handscomb become the third centurion of the visitors innings.

The removal of David Lloyd just before lunch was a bonus for the leaders who are well on top despite that late batting collapse.

  11. 'A poor shot from Davies'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 23 July

    Warwickshire 11-3 v Worcestershire 333

    Dave Bradley
BBC Hereford & Worcester cricket commentator

That was not a ball to pull, it was too full in length.

Alex Davies looked down at his bat but for me that was a poor shot.

  12. 'One an over at the moment'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 140-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's one an over at the moment that's really gripping and they're gripping from not out of the bowlers footmarks, they're gripping form the main body of the pitch.

  13. 'Hampshire need to bowl one side of the wicket'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 377-6

    Michael Carberry
Former Hampshire and England batter on BBC Radio Solent

Hampshire have just got to plug away and bowl one side the wicket.

I think they've just been a little bit guilty of bowling a bit on both sides.

They need to really just try and frustrate and irritate these Notts batters.

  14. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 384-6

A third catch of the game goes down in the Hampshire slips.

Lyndon James is put down by Felix Organ.

The home side can't afford to keep doing that.

    James is 94 not out.

  15. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 301-4

Jordan Cox acknowledges reaching his century for Essex at SussexImage source, Rex Features

A brilliant morning for Essex and Jordan Cox in particular but Sussex have bowled poorly - going at five runs an over.

Cox moved inevitably to an 11th century in the longer format while Matt Critchley is 58 not out.

The partnership for this fifth wicket is 149 runs and Sussex have not taken a wicket so far today.

Lots for the home side to mull over during the interval.

  16. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 152-7

Durham have added 147 runs this morning at a good speed, but the loss of five wickets is far more significant.

Jack Leach has taken three of them to go with one last night and there's a very high chance he will claim a fifth after lunch.

With Durham only leading by 47, there is an even higher chance that Somerset will be enjoying victory at some point this afternoon.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 23 July

    Davies b Khurram 0 (Warwickshire 11-3 v Worcestershire 333)

Wow, Warwickshire's wobble continues as they lose a third batter with only 11 on the board.

It's that man Khurram Shahzad doing the damage again, picking up his third wicket to give him highly impressive early figures of 3-3 from five overs.

Bears skipper Alex Davies was trying to hang in there and anchor his team in their hour of need but he's ended up being dismissed for a 25-ball duck.

The visitors won't want the lunch break but the hosts certainly need it to regroup.

  18. 300 runs

300 up for Essexpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 300-4

    Up comes the Essex 300.

They lead by 96 runs and this is getting worrying for Sussex now.

They have not taken a wicket so far today.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 23 July

    Lloyd b Holland 2 (Derbys 4-1 v Leics 398)

    An early one for Leicestershire.

David Lloyd is beaten by Ian Holland and is bowled.

Eight wickets have fallen in the first session at Derby today.

  20. Division Two updatepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 23 July

Wickets have been like buses for Northants this session, wait ages for one and then two come along in quick succession.

They took two wickets in three balls earlier to dismiss Middlesex's Williamson and Holden, and have bettered that with two in consecutive balls to see off Higgins and Geddes.

In between that though Middlesex have scored freely and are now 458-5 moving on from their overnight 329-1.

No such breakthroughs for Kent who have bowled without reward against Glamorgan's Colin Ingram (86*) and Ben Kellaway (80*) with the Welsh side 89 runs ahead in Cardiff.
