  1. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 31-2

Boom! Lewis Gregory pitches it up and Neil Wagner thumps it, Brian Lara-style, through the covers for four.

The New Zealand bowler moves to 19 and is making batting look a whole lot easier so far on day two.

  2. Postpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 194-4

Jordan Cox looks in prime form this morning.

He crunches Henry Crocombe straight down the ground for four runs to move ominously to 45 not out.

Actually make that 49 as he guides one down to the third-man rope.

Essex have scored 42 runs in the opening 26 minutes of play.

  3. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 23 July

    Derbys v Leics 362-4

Two players have got ducks for Leicestershire and three have centuries.

Ian Holland gets off the mark with a single - does that mean he'll also get to three figures?

  4. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 180-4

Jordan Cox clips Gurinder Sandhu to the mid-wicket fence for four runs and takes a single off the next delivery.

Cox moves to 41 not out - Sussex would dearly like to get him out as he's more than capable of taking control of a game.

  5. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 11-2

Durham's second night-watchman Neil Wagner has helped himself to six runs this morning and more than doubled his side's tally.

Then Emilio Gay plays a lovely foot off the back foot to Craig Overton and gets four to backward point.

Nothing mediocre about that shot from the Durham opener.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 23 July

    Blatherwick c O Price b van Buuren 1 (Gloucestershire v Lancashire 302-8)

Two wickets in two overs this morning for Graeme van Buuren!

Another one that is basically gifted to him as Jack Blatherwick goes for an almighty hoick, gets his foot nowhere near the ball and sends it high, skywards and into the hands of Ollie Price at mid-off.

Chris Green is on 38 at the other end and is in danger of running out of partners.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 23 July

    Handscomb c Guest b Chappell 101 (Derbys v Leics 360-4)

He's only just raised his bat to mark reaching three figures.

Peter Handscomb had found getting the last run for his century a little testing as he was on 99 for a while and had to think about it overnight.

He got there after playing out a maiden this morning but is out to the very next ball, edging a Zak Chappell delivery to wicketkeeper Brooke Guest.

  8. 250 runs

250 up for Nottspublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 257-5

Jack Haynes (78*) continues along his merry way and up comes the Notts 250.

Hampshire bowler Kyle Abbott felt the visitors got a few too many yesterday - how many today will be too many?

  9. 100 runs

100 for Peter Handscombpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 23 July

    Derbys v Leics 360-3

A third centurion of the innings for Leicestershire and a 28th in the first class career of Peter Handscomb.

He's looked comfortable since joining Lewis Hill at 169-3.

The Australian reaches three figures in 170 balls with only five fours - lots of running there Peter!

It has also come in his 200th first class match.

That's the first milestone of the day out of the way - we could be in for a few more yet.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hurst c Akhter v Van Buuren 106 (Gloucestershire v Lancashire 292-7)

Dream start to the morning for Glos. Less so for Lancs.

Matty Hurst adds one to his overnight 105 but no more as he departs to the left-arm spin of Graeme van Buuren.

It is a bit short and a bit wide, but Hurst only concedes in slapping it straight to backward point.

The difference of having to start again the next day, no matter how many runs you have against your name.

  13. Division Two latestpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 23 July

    #bbccricket

From the precarious position of 0-2 to 357-3, it was a glorious recovery for Division Two leaders Leicestershire away to second-placed Derbyshire.

A rapid 115 from Rehan Ahmed, an anchoring 132 not out from Lewis Hill and an assured 99 not out from skipper Peter Handscomb gives the Foxes a tremendous platform to drive the game forward.

It's a similar scenario for Middlesex, who resume on 319-1 against Northamptonshire. Max Holden has 137 and Kane Williamson 88 as their stand of 197 has them in a terrific position.

Honours are a lot more even in Cheltenham as Lancashire resume on 290-6 thanks to Matty Hurst's battling 105 against Gloucestershire.

While Glamorgan begin only 30 runs behind Kent's first innings 155 on 125-4. The visitors were 148-3 yesterday afternoon until a wretched collapse of six wickets for seven runs put them in peril.

  14. Bears and Pears locked in arm wrestlepublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 23 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 262-8

After batting first, Worcestershire ground their way to 262-8 and a sole batting point as Ethan Brookes' battling 80 not out held the innings together.

In gloomy conditions, the Pears dug in after being reduced to 50-3, but it's hard to tell how good that score really is.

For the Bears, day two is simple - two quick wickets and then bat, bat and bat.

"If I'm brutally honest, I'd say we are slightly behind in the game," was the assessment of Worcestershire skipper Brett D'Oliveira.

"We had a couple of opportunities during the day to go quite big with partnership but didn't take them. Credit to Warwickshire, they bowled really well, but we had our chances but just didn't capitalise on those partnerships.

  15. 'Some mediocre batting' - Overtonpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 5-2

Craig Overton in Somerset whitesImage source, Rex Features

There were an incredible 22 wickets on day one at Taunton as the game between Somerset and Durham moved at an incredible speed.

Craig Overton took 6-23 as Durham were skittled for 145 before the hosts rattled up to 250 in just under 50 overs and then took two more wickets in Durham's second innings in three overs before the close to leave them 100 ahead and well in charge.

The pitch has come under the microscope for being excessively bowler-friendly, but Overton believes some of the batting should be under scrutiny.

“The pitch did a bit all day, but not too much as was shown when the batters applied themselves," he said.

"There were 400 runs scored in the day, which suggests it wasn’t a minefield.

“It turned a little, but again I don’t think it was excessive. There was some very mediocre cricket played with the bat, which was perhaps a hangover from playing T20 cricket in recent weeks.

“Tom Lammonby played wonderfully well and showed that if you committed to your shots and tried to stick around runs could be made."

  16. 'We've given ourselves a great opportunity'published at 10:51 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 152-4

Jamie Porter celebrates taking a wicket for Essex at SussexImage source, Getty Images

Jamie Porter was the top performer on day one at Hove with his 4-30 helping to bowl out Sussex for 204 after Essex had won the toss.

The seamer had missed the previous game at Yorkshire as he was on paternity leave.

“We’ve given ourselves a great opportunity in the game. If we can bat well, and I think the pitch is going to get better over the next day or day and a half at least, we could find ourselves in a good position," said Porter.

“There was a bit of rain around in the morning and a bit of moisture in the wicket, and a lot of grass on it, so we felt our best chance was to bowl first.

"The one thing we did well was to follow one wicket with another. If you can take wickets in clusters you can really put the opposition under pressure.”

  17. 'They got a few too many'published at 10:50 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 241-5

Hampshire will look to wrap up Nottinghamshire's first innings this morning having put the visitors into bat at Utilita Bowl.

The country's top wicket taker, Kyle Abbott struck twice on day one to take his tally to 40 for the season.

"I think they probably got a few too many. Four an over on there is a bit high," said Abbott

"Getting five top order wickets is great but we strive for keeping them to three an over, but we'll take it at the end of the day."

It might have been even better for the home side but two catches went down in the slips.

"The dropped catches are incredibly frustrating. It hasn't been good enough.

"It takes a toll on the bowling group when you've put in three overs at a batter then change your line for one. There is a whole build up for those and then you are back to square one," he said."

  18. Can Worrall halt Yorkshire's progress?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 23 July

    Yorkshire 282-4 v Surrey

Dan Worrall appealing for a wicketImage source, Rex Features

Leaders Surrey, aiming for a fourth straight Championship title, were made to work very hard on day one by Yorkshire.

Three batters - Fin Bean, Will Luxton and James Wharton - all made half-centuries but got out between 57 and 78 meaning they could not drive a very good day into an excellent one.

Dan Worrall took three wickets in Scarborough to halt their progress and he will be looking for more this morning to stop Yorkshire from posting a score of 400-plus.

    Good morning

There was a bit of rain around yesterday and today looks a little dodgy in some parts but we've still got plenty to look forward to.

An amazing 22 wickets fell on day one at Taunton and Somerset could have it all done and dusted quite early with Durham 5-2 in their second innings, still 100 runs behind.

The leaders Surrey found it tough going at Scarborough with Yorkshire digging in while in Division Two the leaders Leicestershire showed their credentials in recovering from 0-2.

We're in for an interesting day so let's get cracking...
