  1. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 23 July

    Ackermann c Banton b Leach 0 (Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 77-5)

Two wickets in four balls for Jack Leach!

And even worse, it's a king pair for Colin Ackermann. A golden duck in the first innings. A golden duck in the second.

It's a nightmare for the Durham batter as he makes a nervous prod forward to his first ball and he manages to squirt the ball in the air where it's excellently caught by Tom Banton diving forward at mid-off.

Not sure Ackermann will have too many positive things to say about this Taunton surface.

  2. 350 up for Lancspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 23 July

    Gloucestershire v Lancashire 354-8

A third batting point for Lancashire and it comes up in style as Chris Green slog sweeps Todd Murphy for successive sixes to get there.

The stand between him and Tom Hartley goes past 50 and it is starting to damage Gloucestershire a bit.

  3. Tongue to return to Nottspublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 295-5

Here's some more good news for Nottinghamshire but maybe not so for Hampshire.

Notts paceman Josh Tongue is going to leave the England camp at lunch at Old Trafford today to play in the last two days of Nottinghamshire's County Championship match against Hampshire.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 23 July

    Gay c Overton b Leach 42 (Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 76-4)

Wickets in successive overs for the Cider Boys!

And both set batters have gone as Emilio Gay is well caught by Craig Overton diving low at short mid-wicket as he tries to whip Jack Leach through the onside.

A fine grab from the big man and Somerset are well in business now.

Durham still trail by 29 runs with six wickets remaining.

  5. Division Two updatepublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 23 July

Northants have made a couple of important breakthroughs with two wickets in three balls to remove the dangerous pairing of Kane Williamson and Max Holden.

Williamson made 114 in his first County Championship match for Middlesex while Holden reached 151 before getting out. Between them they put on 239.

Kent are still searching for a wicket against Glamorgan this morning with the Welsh side moving into the lead in Cardiff.

Colin Ingram has notched up another half-century and Ben Kellaway has just done the same to give their side a lead of 25 with six wickets remaining.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 23 July

    Holland c Guest b Reece 8 (Derbys v Leics 379-5)

Ian Holland won't be the fourth Leicestershire centurion.

He nicks a Luis Reece delivery through to Brooke Guest for a third catch for the Derbyshire wicketkeeper.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 23 July

    Wagner lbw b Vaughan 33 (Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 76-3)

Neil Wagner's morning of fun is over.

The New Zealand night-watchman goes to sweep Archie Vaughan, but misses what turns into a low full toss and is given out LBW.

Whether that was going down leg, possibly, but you are always in peril when struck on the full.

Still, a fine stand of 75 with Emilio Gay at a good lick and an innings defeat at least is no longer on the cards.

  8. 50 runs

50 for Chris Greenpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 23 July

    Gloucestershire v Lancashire 329-8

Lancashire have found a fine county performer in Chris Green.

The Australian was excellent in the T20 Blast and made a century and took wickets in the previous two Championship games.

Now he reaches a half-century off 88 balls with a push into the onside off fellow countryman Todd Murphy.

Green is pushing Lancs towards a decent first innings total.

  9. 150 runs

100 for Ethan Brookespublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 23 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 297-8

    Well batted Ethan Brookes!

The Pears man certainly enjoyed that one as he gives the century celebrations plenty of gusto!

And why not when it's against your former club?

The 24-year-old Solihull-born all-rounder joined the Pears from neighbours Warwickshire in 2024 and recently agreed a three-year deal with Worcestershire.

  10. 'Lots of discussions about state of pitch'published at 11:43 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 62-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Half an hour into day two and Durham have not lost a wicket yet.

22 wickets fell yesterday, partly down to some good bowling, partly due to some very poor batting and partly due to a very dusty pitch which started doing things mid-afternoon.

But we have had seamers on so far today and now the spinners have returned. We've had the starter. Is this the main course?

In my preview video this morning I said it would not be out of the question to think this one could be over today.

There have been lots of discussions in the press box about the state of the track and there's a feeling Somerset may yet face some action because of it. We will have to wait and see what happens there.

But as things stand Durham are doing their bit to avoid an innings defeat. Best case scenario for them is they are still batting at the close of play. But at the moment that seems a bit fanciful.

  11. 'Essex start impressively'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 211-4

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Essex have started off very impressively this morning. They've added 48 in the half hour play we've had so far.

  12. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 23 July

    Somerset 250 v Durham 145 & 56-2

More great stuff from Neil Wagner as he dances down the pitch and launches Jack Leach off long-off for a glorious six.

That brings up the 50 partnership between him and Emilio Gay and the Kiwi is outscoring the opener 28 to 27.

  13. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 282-4

Jack Haynes (89*) and Lyndon James (28*) have shared a 50 partnership now.

Haynes' 89 has come from only 110 balls.

This could get away from Hampshire unless they can find a wicket.

  14. 50 runs

50 paartnershippublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 205-4

Jordan Cox (54*) and Matt Critchley (23*) have brought up a 50 partnership in double-quick time.

I think that's all the milestones from Hove for a while.

  15. 'Pears will be reasonably happy to get to 300'published at 11:33 British Summer Time 23 July

    Warwickshire v Worcestershire 289-8

    Dave Bradley
BBC Hereford & Worcester cricket commentator

The conditions here are bowler friendly. I don't think Worcestershire took advantage of the conditions yesterday because at times it was fairly sunny and the ball wasn't doing too much.

They are going to try and scratch out another 30 odd runs today and get to 300 which they might be reasonably be happy with.

  16. 150 runs

100 for Kane Williamsonpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 23 July

    Middlesex 356-1 v Northants

    A high-quality century from a class player.

Kane Williamson showing why he is New Zealand's all-time leading Test run-scorer with his first ton for Middlesex.

He was on 88 not out overnight and reached his century in 147 balls.

  17. 200 runs

200 up for Essexpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 200-4

    Worrying signs for Sussex.

Essex have scored 48 runs this morning - batting looks a lot easier than it did at this stage yesterday.

  18. Pitch inspection at 12:15 BSTpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 23 July

    Yorkshire 282-4 v Surrey

    All very frustrating in Scarborough.

There is no rain and the sun is trying to break out, but the umpires have deemed that the outfield needs more time to dry out from overnight rain.

There will be another inspection of conditions at 12:15 BST.

  19. 'Notts could be top side of 350'published at 11:31 British Summer Time 23 July

    Hants v Notts 265-5

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

There's the potential for this to go as always one or two ways. Notts could be skittled out for less then 300 or this pair could really dig in and bat through the morning session and Notts could be top side of 350 or maybe even 400 but that's a little fanciful.

  20. 50 runs

50 for Jordan Coxpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 23 July

    Sussex 204 v Essex 198-4

Jordan Cox reaching 50 for Essex at SussexImage source, Rex Features

All pretty easy for Jordan Cox as he reaches 50 from 75 balls with 10 fours.

He reaches his half century by pulling a horrible leg-side long hop from Henry Crocombe to the long-leg boundary. Three fours in the over.
