And then there were three. Not just the title of an album by Genesis, but also the situation after three days of the latest County Championship matches.

Glamorgan and Northants completed contrasting wins in Division Two - the former by a huge innings margin and the latter by 70 runs after setting Lancashire only 236 to win.

Notts were victorious in Division One, beating Hampshire by 366 runs, but the games at Chelmsford, Hove and Edgbaston are ongoing.

It has been totally Yorkshire's day and they thoroughly deserve to be in the situation they're in.

It's difficult to see anything other than a Yorkshire win tomorrow. I would say we've all seen stranger things than that but I'm not sure we have actually.

Jack White celebrates a wicket against Essex

Solid defence from Matt Critchley ends day three as the players troop from the middle with Yorkshire firmly in control of this contest.

This was Yorkshire's day completely with Adam Lyth moving his overnight score from 79 to 185 and skipper Jonny Bairstow adding 79 before declaring on 426-6.

If that put Essex behind the eight ball with a monumental 520 target somewhere on the distant horizon hopes of a heroic rearguard have been dashed in the evening session.

Jack White has done the bulk of that dashing with 3-17 in nine overs, removing both openers and Robin Das. George Hill took the other wicket to fall.

With 456 more runs to play with and six Essex wickets to chase this is surely Yorkshire's game to lose as they seek a second win of their campaign.

    Essex 123 & 64-4 v Yorks 216 & 426-6

    Ooh... that's close.

Hands on heads all round as Michael Pepper pushes down the wrong line at Dan Moriarty and plays just inside the line as the ball goes through to Jonny Bairstow's gloves.

    Pepper plays out the remainder.

Just six balls remaining on day three. Yorks have 456 runs in hand and six wickets to get tomorrow unless Dom Bess can shift that equation.

  6. 'It's why we get out of bed'published at 18:50 British Summer Time 11 May

    Northants 238 & 273 v Lancashire 276 & 165

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Northamptonshire's Ben Sanderson was understandably delighted after playing a key role in his side's remarkable 70-run victory over Lancashire at Wantage Road.

Sanderson's career-best 65 from 28 balls - including a 22-ball half-century, the second-fastest in the club's history - shifted the momentum in the hosts' favour, paving the way for the county's first Championship win over the Red Rose for 20 years.

"Days like that are why we play the game," Sanderson told BBC Radio Northampton.

"It's why we get out of bed and train all winter. All I've seen on social media is people saying what an incredible day's cricket that was - both teams fought hard for it and we came out on top."

    Essex 123 & 62-4 v Yorks 216 & 426-6

Michael Pepper scurries up the other end after nudging the ball past the close fielders and ambling slowly up the strip to get off strike.

Matt Critchley defends the remaining tempters stoutly.

  8. Postpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 11 May

    Essex 123 & 59-4 v Yorks 216 & 426-6

Dom Bess kicks the ground in frustration after over-pitching to Michael Pepper and seeing it smoked through cover for four.

He keeps it tight for the remainder of the set of six. Four to go now.

  9. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 11 May

    Essex 123 & 55-4 v Yorks 216 & 426-6

Dan Moriarty comes into the attack and creates a bit of mayhem with his first ball to Matt Critchley.

Lots of shouting, appealing and Jonny Bairstow diving to try and catch a rebound but it seems there was nothing much in it after all.

No pad, no edge, no run.

Critchley knocks a gentle two from the fourth ball and a single from the last ball take sees him keep the strike.

Five overs remaining in the day now. Dom Bess will take the first of them.

  10. 'Warwickshire have performed well'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 369-9

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

Warwickshire have performed well, but they will still have to perform even more successfully tomorrow if they are to win the game.

They have at least given themselves a chance in a game that we thought would be drifting towards a draw.

Warwickshire will start the day believing they can win but we will see how things go in the morning.

  11. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warwickshire 665-5 dec v Surrey 369-9

Rob Yates bowls a maiden over - with eight men around the bat for the final delivery - to end a day of tough, attritional cricket at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire have picked up eight wickets in the day after Surrey began on 98-1 despite the pitch still offering little by way of assistance, perhaps just a hint of gentle turn.

A loose shot cost Dom Sibley (64) his wicket and the loss of Dan Lawrence and Jason Roy in quick succession left Surrey on 217-5.

Ben Foakes has made a defiant 85 not out despite a hostile spell by Che Simmons which brought him two wickets, but Surrey are still 296 behind and will surely have to follow-on tomorrow.

  12. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 11 May

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 117-3, target 361

Fynn Hudson-Prentice tries to tempt Ben Allison into a hook but the nightwatchman does his job, declining the invite.

The final ball of the day sails wide of the off stump with the Worcs bowler shouldering arms.

And that is that on an absorbing day of County Championship action which promises a final day where a win for either side remains a possibility.

Sussex will feel they are favourites given Worcs need another 244 runs with only seven wickets in the hutch. But Jake Libby and Henry Nicholls showed there was reward for application.

For Sussex, James Coles (68) and Tom Alsop (72) did much to shift the dial in the home side's favour with a partnership of 125 for the fourth wicket (rescuing a tricky situation from 18-3).

And with the ball Ollie Robinson led the line in the final session with 1-18 from 12 overs grabbing what could be a crucial late wicket.

With a nightwatchman at the crease in the morning in the shape of Ben Allison momentum could be theirs early as they chase wickets.

  13. Postpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 369-9

Ben Foakes sweeps Beau Webster's occasional off-spin for four.

The Australian then drops short and Foakes finds the rope at cover off the back foot.

    One over to go.

  14. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 361-9

Ben Foakes steers Rob Yates through point for a very sedate single.

Even if Warwickshire pick up this final wicket, there isn't time enough left now for them to insert Surrey agai8n before the close.

The County Ground in Chelmsford is bathed in sunshine, but for followers of Essex the scene is as bleak as Bleak House.

Robin Das plays defensively to Jack White, edges to first slip and that's an easy catch for George Hill.

Another 10 overs to go after this one.

    Ali c Coles b Robinson 4 (Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 114-3)

    Huge late breakthrough.

Kashif Ali did not really need to play at this, hanging a bat outside off and edging to third slip where James Coles takes a sharp chance to his left.

Ben Allison is the nightwatchman with two balls from Robinson to face.

  18. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warks 665-6 dec v Surrey 358-9

Can Warwickshire pick up this last wicket and get Surrey in again before the close?

They are running out of overs, with just four left after this one from Rob Yates.

  19. Postpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 11 May

    Sussex 284 & 256 v Worcs 180 & 113-2

Two overs to go in the day and Ollie Robinson will take the first of them with three slips in place.

This has been a good spell whatever happens in this with his 12 overs delivering three maidens and 0-12

  20. 'Very good bowling by Warwickshire'published at 18:08 British Summer Time 11 May

    Warks 665-5 dec v Surrey 354-9

    Phil Britt
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

It's a nice bit of bowling, I think it's the bounce as much as anything that did it for Tom Lawes there.

Warwickshire have just stuck to their plans today, it's been very good bowling from there.
