  1. Postpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 285-4 v Lancs 228

Shot! David Bedingham punches a ball off the back foot to long on for four runs.

Immaculate timing. Looked like a gentle push.

Lancashire are looking a little flat and Durham are under no pressure.

    17 overs left tonight.

  2. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 10 September

    Middlesex 377 v Gloucs 154-5

And Lord's joins the list of completed days for today.

There hadn't been any play in London since 15:15 BST and with a mixture of bad light and rain the umpires have pulled the plug.

Ollie Price remains unbeaten on 56, with Gloucestershire 223 runs adrift.

  3. Postpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 281-4 v Lancs 228

Tom Aspinwall is in the attack now, replacing Tom Bailey.

David Bedingham checks a pull shot to drop the ball safely to square leg.

He'll get a single pulled fine for one.

A short ball gets up a little slowly and is dabbed to third man by Ackermann for one.

Another short ball is pulled to leg by Bedingham for one more.

Our only action at the moment, then, is at Chester-le-Street - but obviously it's a big game at the foot of Division One.

The games at Taunton, Worcester, Hove, Northampton and Leicester have all finished for the day due to rain.

Chelmsford, Canterbury and Lord's are holding out in the hope of a resumption but it's getting late in the day.

  5. Postpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 273-4 v Lancs 228

David Bedingham has passed 1000 first class runs this season and he'll get one more to backward square with a dainty glance off Tom Bailey.

In fact we're reliably informed by Martin Emmerson on BBC Radio Newcastle that he's the leading run scorer in the whole of Division One.

    Thank you, sir.

  6. Postpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 269-4 v Lancs 228

George Balderson strays to leg and Colin Ackermann works the ball away for a single.

    He's on 71.

David Bedingham plays into cover and a fumble in the field by Tom Hartley allows a couple of runs.

Frustration building for Lancashire, who have to get through another 16 overs before the second new ball is available.

  7. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 266-4 v Lancs 228

Colin Ackermann defends down the ground to see out the 62nd over, bowled by George Balderson.

Just a couple of runs off that over.

David Bedingham tries to work a ball from Tom Bailey through mid wicket but doesn't clear the field. No run.

Bedingham defends down the ground and then a loose, leg side ball is tickled past a diving keeper to fine leg for four.

  8. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 10 September

    Northants 219 & 178-5 v Derbys 165

Rain has now reached Northampton as well and is it for day two.

Derbyshire were going okay earlier at 150-4 but then collapsed horribly, losing 6-15 to be bowled out for only 165 and conceded a healthy lead.

Northants were then wobbling trying to build that lead at 105-4.

But Rob Keogh has wrested the situation the hosts' way with eight boundaries in his unbeaten 46.

It means Northants will resume in the morning with a lead of 232.

  9. Close of play at Hovepublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 10 September

    Sussex 385-5 v Glamorgan 186

Other than an hour just before lunch this has been very much Sussex's day.

Nightwatcher Henry Crocombe was svelt in his maiden first-class fifty. He got 54.

But the main event today has been Tom Clark and John Simpson's unbroken 194 run partnership.

Simpson passed 1,000 runs for the season (one of only four players to manage it so far this year in the Championship) but racking up a fifth century of the campaign.

Simpson closes on 112, Clark on 79 and Sussex on a 221-run lead with plans for Division One surely being formulated now.

  10. Postpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 260-4 v Lancs 228

Runs for David Bedingham as Tom Bailey drops short and the batter pulls square for two.

Not his best shot. The ball was in the air for a while but lands safely.

    Top edged.

A leg side ball is gently tapped away fine for four.

24 overs left tonight and the Durham lead is 32.

This fifth wicket partnership is in fact a club record against Lancs, currently worth 161 but we won't claim credit for that one - BBC Lancashire.

  11. It's rainingpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent 64-5 v Hampshire 403

It was dark and now it is dark and wet.

There are meant to be 30.2 overs left today, doubt we'll be seeing many if any of those.

  12. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 254-4 v Lancs 228

Keaton Jennings continues to position himself at a very short mid-wicket or silly mid on for George Balderson, pretty much in the eye line of Colin Ackermann.

He tries to work the last ball away through mid wicket but there's no run.

    Maiden over.

  13. Postpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 254-4 v Lancs 228

Lancashire need a wicket and Tom Bailey has been brought back into the attack.

We have a very close catcher on the leg side.

    A silly mid on, perhaps.

David Bedingham follows a leg side ball with the bat and misses.

An appeal for caught behind is turned down.

    A bit optimistic, really.

  14. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 10 September

    Somerset 317 v Surrey 169-3

Sadly the day has been called at Taunton with no let up in the rain.

A hard-fought day that still leaves this crucial match on an even keel.

After a good start Surrey lost both openers to Archie Vaughan's off spin - both sweeping.

Ben Geddes then made a maiden Championship fifty to move the visitors into a strong position at 128-2.

But he became Vaughan's third victim - and the third to fall sweeping.

Ryan Patel worked his way to a 130 ball fifty and will come back in the morning 61 not out, with Ben Foakes on 11.

  15. All over for the day at Worcesterpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 10 September

    Worcestershire 307, Warwickshire 112-4

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Worcester

As expected, play has just officially been called off for the day at Worcester.

Only 37 overs possible before bad light, then rain took over, wiping out most of the afternoon session - and then all of the third session too.

Two early morning fours for Worcestershire red-ball debutant Jack Home, two Chris Rushworth wickets, then four scalps for the Pears - one of which was Bears captain Alex Davies.

But not before Davies's 58 had taken him past 1,000 Championship runs this season - the first Division One player to reach that tally in 2024.

Warwickshire will resume at 10:30 in the morning, still trailing their hosts by 195 runs.

  16. Postpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 250-4 v Lancs 228

Thanks, Scott Read (BBC Lancs commentator) for your kind words on our text commentary.

    You're very welcome, sir.

David Bedingham is in full flow with an immaculate straight drive for four runs.

The ball probably missed the timbers at the non striker's end by a coat of varnish.

Four more driven straight off the back foot and Durham have their first batting point.

    250 in 56.5 overs.

It is dingy so the players have headed off.

All except Hampshire captain James Vince, who has stayed out with the umpires for a chat/persuade them to resume play.

  18. 100 runs

100 for David Bedinghampublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 240-4 v Lancs 228

Bedingham gets a single to long on off Tom Hartley. He's on 99.

Come on now, Colin Ackermann. Flicked to square leg...for two.

The fifth ball is cut off the back foot for three.

Can Bedingham do it here? Two close catchers on the leg side.

Yes! Pushed down the ground off the back foot for one.

That's his sixth century this season. Six!

143 balls. 11 fours and one six.

  19. Postpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent 63-5 v Hampshire 403

Kyle Abbott has re-entered the attack and with his second delivery finds an outside edge.

Harry Finch manages to play with soft enough hands to make sure it doesn't carry to the slips but that's a warning.

Abbott continues with a play-and-miss and a couple of defensive shots to complete a maiden.

WICKET: Zaib b Morley 26published at 16:29 British Summer Time 10 September

    Northants 219 & 143-5 v Derbys 165

Saif Zaib and Rob Keogh moved Northants' lead towards 200 with a little stand that took them away from a tricky spot at 102-4.

But Jack Morley has broken the partnership.

Left-arm round to the left-handed Zaib, the batsmen has a dance down the pitch, is beaten by some sharp turn and is bowled.

Northants effectively 197-5. Game on still.
