    Kent v Hampshire 401-9

How have Hampshire got four batting bonus points?

They were 210-7 with a statistically mediocre tail.

But with some brilliant batting, and pretty woeful bowling they have got there.

Brad Wheal clubs his fourth six to get the score over 400.

  2. Rain at Grace Roadpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 10 September

    Leics 98 & 35-2 v Yorks

    A delay in LE2.

    Kent v Hampshire 395-9

Mo Abbas has gone for another of his reverse sweeps.

Remember the first attempt was missed by a mile, the second was mistimed but this time he has nailed it for four.

A lesson to kids if your coach tells you not to play the reverse sweep.

"It's hilarious" laughs BBC Solent commentator Kevan James.

Speaking as a Kent fan, we’re simply not good enough to stay in Division 1. Got away with it last year, had too many injuries this year, been awful across all formats of the game. As witnessed by this last wicket stand.

    Chris in Maidstone, via WhatsApp

70 year old life long Kent fan here and I have to say that this is the worst Kent team in my living memory. Letting Cox, Robinson and Dexter go was terrible. Walker had to resign as coach and I hope the cricket committee is having a good hard look at themselves. I fear a long stay in Div 2 lays ahead.

    Middlesex 377 v Gloucs 111-4

Ryan Higgins is struggling a little with his rhythm here, delivering two no balls in the 25th over and three in all.

20 runs in the extras column to date.

Change of bowling now as Henry Brookes replaces Tom Helm at the Nursery End.

Graeme van Buuren tries to turn the ball away through the on side but the ball is stopped at mid wicket.

He'll get runs here though as he tucks into a full ball through mid wicket for four.

  7. Postpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent v Hampshire 389-9

Mo Abbas had only scored nine runs so far in 2024.

His highest previous highest score for Hampshire, in 46 matches, was nine.

With a floaty full ball driven to mid off, he has doubled his tally for the campaign AND equalled his best for the county.

It is VERY quiet in the Kent field, and in the stands alike.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Holland c Hill b Fisher 7published at 14:00 British Summer Time 10 September

    Leics 98 & 35-2 v Yorks 379

    Second wicket for Yorkshire.

    And it's Matt Fisher again.

Very nice delivery, full of length, brings Ian Holland forward and straightens enough to take a thick outside edge to first slip.

    Leicestershire need a partnership.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Brad Whealpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent v Hampshire 387-9

    A maiden first-class half-century for Brad Wheal.

It has taken 50 matches to come but what a moment for the fast bowler.

He reaches the milestone with a thick outside edge. That is very popular with the away dressing room, even if the celebration isn't exactly exuberant from Wheal.

He obviously picked up a couple of tricks in Edinburgh last week...he went for 51 in four overs and 39 in two overs for Scotland against Australia last week.

    Durham 82-2 v Lancs 228

Anderson Phillip replaces Tom Bailey from the Lumley End.

David Bedingham clips the third ball safely to backward square for a single to move on to 21.

Anderson switches to bowling round the wicket to the left-handed Alex Lees, who defends.

    Somerset 317 v Surrey 128-3

    Archie Vaughan again!

He has a third wicket. And breaks the third-wicket stand of 80.

And can you believe it it's yet another mistimed sweep!

Ben Geddes gets a top edge and is taken at backward-square leg.

The game right in the balance once more.

  12. wicket

WICKET Hain b Van Beek 11published at 13:58 British Summer Time 10 September

    Worcestershire 307, Warwickshire 103-4

A fourth wicket for Worcestershire as Warwickshire number four Sam Hain is bowled for 11 by Logan van Beek.

Hain over-balanced trying to look runs on the leg side, misjudged it and looked astonished that the New Zealand-born Netherlands international had managed to clip the top of the bails.

Pears old boy Ed Barnard is the new man in.

Following Div 2 intently and working out the points (new to county cricket)! If it stays how things are, that Sussex-Middlesex game in a couple of weeks will be huge!

    Mike, Wythenshawe

Title decider in the final game? Expect Yorkshire could have something to say about that...

  14. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 10 September

    Middlesex 377 v Gloucs 101-4

A little respite for Gloucestershire after a demanding session of play as Ollie Price guides Toby Roland-Jones safely wide of the slip cordon through to third man for four.

The innings 100 comes in 22.3 overs.

  15. wicket

WICKET Procter c Madsen b Moore 2published at 13:51 British Summer Time 10 September

    Northants 219 & 9-2 v Derbys 165

The wickets, rather than runs are flowing.

Luke Procter goes cheaply as the Northants captain is stuck in the crease with a loose swish, edging the ball low to Wayne Madsen at second slip.

Harry Moore has his second wicket of the innings and will bowl to James Sales next.

  16. Postpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 10 September

    Durham 76-2 v Lancs 228

Alex Lees hits Tom Bailey for four, driven on the front foot through cover and moves to 33 with four more in the next over, driving George Balderson beautifully down the ground.

Durham starting to look fairly settled after losing two wickets early on before lunch.

Lees stays in the crease to cut Bailey through cover point for four more, taking the third wicket partnership to David Bedingham to 50 in 72 balls.

  17. Essex cruising against Nottspublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 10 September

    Essex 390-6 v Notts

Michael Pepper and Simon Harmer are the men at the crease for Essex at Chelmsford.

And they are peppering and harming the Nottinghamshire attack, stepping up the pace as they approach an inevitable fourth batting point.

A fifth is less likely but not completely out of the question if they start going really big.

  18. 50 runs

50 partnership between Wheal and Abbaspublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 10 September

    Kent v Hampshire 382-9

Brad Wheal averages 10.84 in first-class cricket, Mo Abbas averages 6.1.

Quite simply they should not be putting on 20, let alone 50 for a partnership.

It hasn't been too difficult for them either. Astonishing stuff.

  19. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 10 September

    Middlesex 377 v Gloucs 96-4

Ollie Price ducks under a rare, looping slower ball from pace man Tom Helm to see out the 20th over.

Toby Roland-Jones is getting plenty of seam movement into Gloucestershire skipper Graeme van Buuren, who defends into the on side.

The third ball is inside-edged past leg stump and through fine leg for four.

Van Buuren is cramped for room as he half plays a cut shot at a ball that just bounces over the top edge.

This is a tough, tough watch for Gloucestershire.

  20. 50 runs

for Ben Geddespublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 10 September

    Somerset 317 v Surrey 127-2

There was a lot of sneering yesterday at Surrey shipping in overseas players.

But it's one of their own leading their progress here after lunch.

Ben Geddes, playing just his seventh first-class match and first of the season, gets to fifty in 93 balls with six fours.

Just a second Championship fifty for the 23-year-old.
