Former England batter on BBC Sounds

It's changed the tone of the innings for England. A big score had looked possible but you feel the spinners have come in and chipped away at the middle order engine.

It's hard to tell from up here but maybe it's a bit more of a sticky surface than we thought.

  2. Eng 261-5published at 39 overs

Jacob Bethell's first ODI runs come from a nice, late cut for four but he's almost bowled attempting a similar shot a ball later.

What are England looking at now? 360? That might not be enough if Travis Head gets going.

  3. How's stat?!published at 15:13 British Summer Time 19 September

    Phil Long
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

Marnus Labuschagne's best ODI figures are 2-19. He has the chance to go one wicket better here.

  4. Eng 256-5published at 38 overs

Jacob Bethell joins Liam Livingstone in the middle now. These two won the second T20 for England with their partnership.

Their side need another similar effort.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37.5 overs

    Smith c sub (Connolly) b Short 23 (Eng 256-5)

    This one is out, however!

Jamie Smith goes again but fails to middle it. The ball is skied in the air and is taken at long-on.

Australia's part-time spinners are changing the game.

  6. dropped catch

Smith dropped on 22published at 37.3 overs

Is this a drop? I'm in a harsh mood so yes.

Aaron Hardie snaffles a hard, flat hit from Jamie Smith in the deep but knows he can't cling on without going over the boundary rope. He just throws the ball back in and Smith survives.

  7. Postpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 19 September

Look away, Ben Duckett. A horrible way to get out...

  8. Eng 248-4published at 37 overs

    Smith 16, Livingstone 6

Australia's left-arm quick Ben Dwarsius has been off the field for the past few overs. He's been walking around the boundary edge and has just walked up to the dressing room.

Something isn't right. I'll let you know if we hear anything official.

  9. 6 runs

    Eng 246-4published at 36.3 overs

Jamie Smith cracks a huge six off Marnus Labuschagne.

I'd say that's good for England but we know what happened last time that happened...

  10. Eng 240-4published at 36 overs

    Smith 9, Livingstone 6

Liam Livingstone wasn't in the England squad for these ODIs before finding form in the T20s and an injury to Josh Hull. Twice he plays a scoop to Matt Short and the second occasion gets him four.

  11. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 19 September

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

Harry Brook played with so much dominance but was just a bit switched off there in terms of getting to the end of the over. Marnus has gone for a few but he's got a two-fer.

  12. Eng 234-4published at 35.3 overs

Liam Livingstone emerges with 400 looking further in the distance than it did a few overs back.

  13. Postpublished at 15:01 British Summer Time 19 September

    Geoff Lemon
Test Match Special commentator on BBC Sounds

It looked like Marnus was stretching out to stop a half volley but got his fingers under it for another return catch! He'll consider those fours and sixes off the over worthwhile for the wicket.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35 overs

    Brook c&b Labuschagne 39 (Eng 232-4)

Marnus has done it again! Can you believe it?

Harry Brook pumps the ball straight back to the Aussie 'all-rounder' for his second return catch of the innings. Labuschagne is up for this. He gives a roar in celebration.

  15. 6 runs

    Eng 232-3published at 34.5 overs

Creamed for six by Harry Brook!

This is an expensive second over from Labuschagne.

  17. Eng 221-3published at 34.1 overs

A full toss from Labuschagne is whacked for four by Jamie Smith. This is Smith's first experience of the England-Australia rivalry.

  18. Eng 217-3published at 34 overs

Enthused by that wicket, Australia continue to mix up their bowlers. Travis Head, Michael Vaughan's Ted lasso look-a-like, concedes only three from an over of part-time off-spin.

Marnus is going to get a second.

Marnus Labuschagne is up there with all the cricket enthusiasts. He will talk your ear off about cricket. If you ask him how morale is in the camp, he's not bothered, but if you ask about his batting technique, he loves to talk.

  20. Eng 214-3published at 33 overs

That's the fourth time Ben Duckett has got to 70 but not made a century this summer.

A misfield lets Jamie Smith, fresh from his superb first summer in Test cricket, get off the mark.
