  1. Eng 170-2published at 25 overs

England stand-in skipper Harry Brook is the new batter.

At the halfway point England look on course for a big score here. Matthew Henry is on hand to talk you through the second part of England's innings.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.3 overs

    Jacks c Smith b Zampa 62 (Eng 168-2)

Adam Zampa claws one back for Australia with the wicket of Will Jacks, who cannot resist going after one given a bit of air by the leggie.

Jacks cannot quite get the elevation he needs on the drive and Steve Smith sticks a paw up and the ball sticks.

  3. Eng 168-1published at 24.2 overs

Adam Zampa back into the attack as Mitchell Marsh rotates again.

Here's the best shots of Ben Duckett's half-century.

  4. Eng 165-1published at 24 overs

Schadenfreude from the Trent Bridge crowd as the crouching Sean Abbott lets a crisp drive from Will Jacks go through his legs for four off spinner Matthew Short's third ball of the over.

It's not exactly been Abbott's day today.

If England don't get at least 350 from here they will be disappointed.

  7. Eng 157-1published at 23 overs

Will Jacks throws the kitchen sink at a full straight one from Aaron Hardie and the ball flashes over the point region to pick up a four.

The sun is starting to break through. Time for England to go full throttle now you sense.

Sean Abbott is a real problem for Mitchell Marsh. He has conceded 50 in five overs.

There's a lack of inventiveness from Marsh. There are others - himself, Smith, Labuschagne - who could bowl.

Don't get too carried away here! England have made a very good start, but if Head and/or Marsh are still in after 20 overs Australia will be well ahead of what England have scored.

  10. Eng 151-2published at 22 overs

England make hay at the end of that Sean Abbott over as Ben Duckett finishes it with back-to-back boundaries, pushing the Aussie seamer through mid-on and then swatting him through mid-wicket.

    England are in control here.

It feels a bit flat with the ball. There is not a huge amount happening.

Will Jacks is quite a simple player to watch. He stands still and hits it, rather than being premeditated.

An impressive knock for Will Jacks who brings up his third half-century with delightful pull in front of square for four off Sean Abbott.

    It's come off 45 balls.

A classy drive from Ben Duckett as he comes back and across to crisply thread Aaron Hardie through the in field and past the dive of the boundary rider for four.

Hardie beats the outside edge of Duckett's bat a few balls later but the England opener times a beautiful pull for four off the penultimate ball of the over.

Here's how Duckett got to his half-century a few moments ago.

It's certainly not a warm day in Nottingham today but having just been for a wander around the ground, I'm not sure it's cold enough that the entire England team needs to be staying inside.

Interim coach Marcus Trescothick is the only person braving it on the England balcony as it stands.

  17. Eng 127-1published at 20 overs

Sean Abbott, one of Austalia's trouple of mustachioed players, angles the ball down Will Jacks' leg side and although he cannot get any bat on it it brushes his thigh and races away for four leg byes.

England are 20 overs in and quite handily placed here. A score in excess of 300 looks comfortably within their grasp.

Adam Zampa is scooped by Ben Duckett. More smart batting as he attempts to give the Aussie leg-spinner something different to think about having reverse swept him.

A couple of balls later and Will Jacks hits Zampa for a flat one-bounce four down the ground. That made a lovely sound off the bat.

These two are going along nicely for England. Here's that six from Jacks off Zampa from a little earlier.
