  1. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 76-5

Not exactly the opening session Warwickshire would have hoped for after winning the toss.

The visitors progressed to 40-1 but they're in deep trouble at the interval - and it could have been worse had Ed Barnard not been put down by Michael Pepper off Sam Cook.

Barnard is 19 not out, while Jacob Bethell, who took 26 deliveries to get off the mark, has just that single to his name.

  2. Postpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 100-4 v Worcs

Ollie Pope gets a single off Nathan Smith, pushed safely through backward square leg.

Smith drops short and Dan Lawrence swings to ball away for a single.

That's the Surrey 100 in the 27th over.

  3. Postpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 122-3 v Kent

Tom Lammonby gets four more runs as he plays down the wrong line to Nathan Gilchrist and the ball runs away wide of slip off a thick edge.

Tom Banton gets way with a leg bye off Grant Stewart at the other end.

A tidy line from Stewart as Lammonby leaves just outside off stump.

  4. 'Bears will regret how it's gone'published at 12:53 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 73-5

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

I'm not sure Warwickshire will regret batting first because I think it was almost inevitable that they would.

But they'll regret how it's gone. Their batting has been their strength this season and their bowling attack has been ravaged by injuries.

They will have wanted to try to bat well and get some runs on the board, but not to be.

  5. Postpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 93-4 v Worcs

Nathan Smith is short and leg side in an otherwise tidy over and Dan Lawrence lets the ball go.

He's on 46 and has rarely looked troubled in this innings.

  6. Stokes back onpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 97-1 v Durham

    Sam Drury
BBC Sport cricket writer at Stanley Park

After a change of ends, Ben Stokes is going to have another short burst before lunch.

  7. Stokes v Lyonpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 88-1 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

This one has been billed as "Ben Stokes v Nathan Lyon" - with the Engand captain turning out for Durham for the first time since a defeat at Lord's two years ago.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon is also back for The Red Rose after sitting out their last game v Notts.

We have seen a brief spell of Stokes with the ball. His four overs so far have gone for 26 runs.

Durham put Lancashire in on an overcast and cool morning. With mizzle in the air it looked like good bowling conditions. However, it was nearly an hour and a half before the fist wicket fell. Luke Wells was caught by Colin Ackermann at second slip, off Matty Potts for 29.

The opening partnership was worth 87, with former Durham opener Keaton Jennings scoring 50 for the third time this season. It came in 63 balls and included nine fours.

  8. Big wicket for Yorkshirepublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 17 May

    Division Two latest

Yorkshire seamer Dom Leech has got the huge wicket of Sussex's Cheteshwar Pujara to leave them in a spot of bother on 91-4 at Hove.

The India batter made just 14.

Gloucestershire are flying along at Leicestershire on 94-0 - Cameron Bancroft is just a couple away from a half-century.

Northants have also made a fine start against Derbyshire. They're 84-0 with Ricardo Vasconcelos 48 not out.

Middlesex are keeping things nice and tight at Glamorgan - the hosts are 57-1 in Cardiff.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Umeed c O'Riordan b Swanepoel 25published at 12:45 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 116-3 v Kent

A timely wicket for Kent after runs were flowing in the third wicket partnership between Andy Umeed and Tom Lammonby.

Beyers Swanepoel delivers a beautifully late away swinger.

Umeed is forward to block and gets a thin edge low to Marcus O'Riordan at first slip.

Time for Tom Banton to have a bat.

  10. wicket

WICKET: Haynes c Prest b Abbas 8published at 12:44 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 50-6 v Hants

    Six down before lunch!

Mohammad Abbas has three of them for Hampshire - he persuades Jack Haynes to waft and the ball sails to first slip Tom Prest, who watches it safely into his hands.

The Trent Bridge crowd are stunned into silence as Calvin Harrison comes in to try and stem the bleeding.

  11. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 84-4 v Worcs

A no ball from Matthew Waite is followed by a slightly over pitched delivery which Ollie Pope pushes away for two.

Worcestershire have still had the better of this session of play but will need to break this partnership to press home their advantage.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Tom Lammonbypublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 112-2 v Kent

Tom Lammonby moves to 48 with a slightly streaky drive, which scythes the ball through backward point off a thick edge for four.

A rare false shot from him in this innings.

There it is! He squeezes Grant Stewart through the off side for two and gets 50 in 72 balls with 10 fours.

He continues his fine Somerset form this season with his fifth score of 50 or more in six games with a best effort of 100 against Surrey.

  13. 'A sub-par start'published at 12:40 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 49-5 v Hants

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Already the decision to insert Notts is thoroughly vindicated.

Notts have got to really dig deep into their resources here to get some sort of competitive score on the board.

There's talk about not being able to win the match on the first day, but you can certainly lose it with a poor effort and Notts will feel that certainly this is a sub-par start.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Moores b Fuller 17published at 12:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 49-5 v Hants

    Stumps flying!

Tom Moores is almost cut in half by that delivery from James Fuller, darting back into him from around the wicket and keeping low as well.

Hampshire are well on top here, with half of the Notts line-up already back in the hutch, and their seamers continue to share the wickets around.

  15. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 79-4 v Worcs

Another good over from Matthew Waite, who has conceded only five runs in four overs.

Very much a session of two halves, starting with Surrey losing four wickets for 15 runs before the resistance for the fifth wicket.

Dan Lawrence is forward to Ben Gibbon to defend.

The fourth ball is a tad leg side and nudged away for one.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Wells c Ackermann b Potts 29published at 12:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 87-1 v Durham

Breakthrough for Durham at last - and it's Matthew Potts who achieves it.

Potts finds the edge of Luke Wells' bat and Colin Ackermann reacts sharply at second slip to end the opening partnership of 87.

Josh Bohannon is in now to join Keaton Jennings who has gone past fifty.

  17. Hosts pass 100 at Tauntonpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 103-2 v Kent

Somerset pass 100 in style as Andy Umeed is forward to an over pitched ball from Joey Evison to drive through cover for four runs.

The hosts are past 100 in 24 overs.

  18. wicket

WICKET: Davies c Harmer b Porter 19published at 12:29 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 64-5

Four catches now for Simon Harmer - and that one was a beauty!

Bears captain Alex Davies has batted doggedly while wickets tumbled at the other end, but this ball from Jamie Porter flies off his outside edge and Harmer flings himself quickly to his right to take it just off the ground.

Four wickets have gone for 24 now and Essex are very much in control.

  19. Postpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 97-2 v Kent

Four more runs to Andy Umeed, forward and driving Joey Evison through long off for four.

Beyers Swanepoel has a bit of width outside off stump and Tom Lammonby is able to leave the ball alone.

    Maiden over.

  20. 'Home side firmly in the box seat'published at 12:27 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 64-4

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

This has been a good 75 minutes for Essex after losing the toss.

Two good slip catches from Simon Harmer and a ball from Shane Snater which nipped back had done the damage before Dan Mousley has a rush of blood to Harmer’s second ball, shuffles down the wicket and chips a simple catch back to the bowler.

When you have got the number of wickets as Simon Harmer has and when you are as good as he is you do not need to give him any help and that is what Mousley has done to put the home side firmly in the box seat.
