  1. 'Much brighter in Blackpool'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 139-1 v Durham

    Sam Drury
BBC Sport cricket writer at Stanley Park

The sun is trying to force its way through the clouds now in Blackpool and it is certainly much brighter.

Ben Raine is bowling nicely but, with just one wicket so far, you wonder whether Durham skipper Scott Borthwick may be starting to regret his decision to bowl first.

Ben Stokes is yet to add to the six overs he bowled before lunch, while Keaton Jennings has moved to 80 in good time.

  2. Postpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 159-3 v Kent

Tom Banton batting for SomersetImage source, Rex Features

Tom Banton is driving well here, dispatching Nathan Gilchrist down the ground for successive fours to take Somerset past 150 in the 38th over.

Tom Lammonby drives and gets two off a thick outside edge, facing Beyers Swanepoel.

A short ball is cut away for two to deep backward point.

The sun is shining and the tinge of green on the square has faded a little since this morning.

  3. Postpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 127-4 v Worcs

A very difficult chance to Joe Leach in the deep as Ollie Pope lofts a leg side ball from Yadvinder Singh to deep square...

The ball passes him as he races forward and runs away for four.

He did well to get near it, really.

Joe Leach bowls the next over and a slightly wide ball outside off is cut away by Dan Lawrence for a single.

Two more runs to Pope, whipping the next ball through the leg side.

Leach is still getting the ball to move away off the pitch and the Pears will be right back into this game with an early wicket in this session.

Another pause in play as the umpires decide to change the ball for the second time in the day's play.

  4. 'Hampshire supporters will be happy with morning session'published at 13:58 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 73-6 v Hampshire

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

I saw the Hampshire supporters in the lunch room and said: we've seen more action in those two hours than we have in 12 days of cricket at home this season.

  5. Postpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 142-3 v Kent

Tom Lammonby moves on to 59 with two runs driven into the off side.

His touch and timing has been impressive today.

A steady start from Somerset since lunch with nine runs coming in the first three overs of the session.

  6. Postpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 128-1 v Durham

Keaton Jennings looks in good nick today and he's started the afternoon session with a series of boundaries against Ben Raine and Paul Coughlin.

The Lancashire skipper's moved on to 78, with Josh Bohannon on 16 at the other end.

    Surrey 115-4 v Worcs

Ollie Pope is forward to defend his wicket against Joe Leach.

He drives a ball to cover but without clearing the field. Maiden over.

Yadvinder Singh will bowl his second spell of the game from the Pavilion End.

Dan Lawrence pounces on a full delivery on middle and leg and punches the ball neatly down the ground for four.

One more run driven into the off side.

That's the 100 partnership for this fifth wicket, coming in 142 balls.

  8. Postpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 83-5

Not much in the way of attacking intent from Jacob Bethell prior to lunch, but he's begun the afternoon session with a pull for four off Jamie Porter.

Bethell adds another leg-side shot for three later in the over as he and Ed Barnard seek to rebuild for the Bears - who are batting after winning the toss this morning, don't forget.

  9. Play resumes at the Ovalpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 110-4 v Worcs

Dan Lawrence (57 not out) and Ollie Pope (39 not out) battled through tough conditions and testing Worcestershire bowling this morning to put on a stand of 90 and rescue the hosts from 15-4.

Conditions have eased somewhat since then so what would a par score be from here?

Ollie Pope is on strike to start the session and he's facing Joe Leach.

  10. Afternoon session begins at Tauntonpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 133-3 v Kent

Umpires Neil Mallender and Rob White are back in the middle.

Beyers Swanepoel got Kent off to a great start this morning with the early wicket of Sean Dickson and he produced a peach of a late outswinger to dislodge Andy Umeed shortly before the break.

But the runs have been flowing in between and Tom Lammonby, bar a missed chance to Zak Crawley on one and the occasional thick outside edge has looked in great touch for his 54.

Lammonby will face Swanepoel to start the session of play.

Tom Banton is 12 not out at the non striker's end.

  11. Postpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 17 May

The teams are making their way back out after lunch.

What's the afternoon session got in store?

    Let's find out...

  12. 'First toss win in 10 for Kent'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 17 May

Somerset 133-3 v Kent - lunch, day one

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Daniel Bell-Drummond looked to have chosen ideal circumstances in which to break a sequence of nine lost tosses as Kent captain and put Somerset in on a greenish pitch.

Sure enough, Sean Dickson was soon back in the pavilion for a four-ball duck, and he should have been followed in the next over by Tom Lammonby, who edged Grant Stewart to second slip only for Zak Crawley to drop the chance.

Thereafter, Somerset’s batters made hay in the Taunton sunshine, so that, notwithstanding the additional loss of Matt Renshaw and Andy Umeed, they’ll feel they’ve had the better of a thoroughly entertaining morning session.

  13. 'Middlesex bowlers put on the brakes'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 17 May

Glamorgan 72-2 v Middlesex - lunch, day one

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Middlesex’s bowlers have fought back superbly after Glamorgan rattled up 44 in the first 10 overs before losing two wickets for 28 in the next 20 overs.

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne looked in fine shape in his county return, but was caught behind driving at Tom Helm for 23 off 31 balls.

That brought a sharp drop in the scoring rate as the ball started to move around, with Helm, Ethan Bamber and Ryan Higgins all very tight.

Higgins forced Eddie Byrom, on 26, to glove through to Jack Davies while Sam Northeast made an ultra-cautious start.

  14. 'Yorkshire bowled & caught well'published at 13:30 British Summer Time 17 May

Sussex 105-4 v Yorkshire - lunch, day one

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A good morning for Yorkshire having won the toss at Hove and decided to bowl.

On a pitch offering some help to the seamers, Yorkshire have bowled and caught well after a wayward opening.

James Coles with a typically elegant 22 and John Simpson have steadied the Sussex ship, and these two will be key to Sussex posting a competitive total.

  15. 'Essex attack dominant'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 17 May

Essex v Warwickshire 76-5 - lunch, day one

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Another dominant morning on home soil for the Essex attack.

You can’t keep Simon Harmer out of a game whether he is bowling or not. He had already taken three catches in the slips before Dan Mousley decided to offer him a gift off just the second ball he had delivered by chipping a return catch to the South African.

Ed Barnard has handled Harmer well, sweeping him twice to the square leg boundary but Warwickshire will need him to stick around for a quite a while.

    Surrey 110-4 v Worcs

Dan Lawrence reaches a deserved 50 off 66 balls with a glance off a leg side ball from Ben Gibbon square for four runs.

He gets four more with a deft push wide of the slips and through to third man.

He's put on 95 precious runs with Ollie Pope after the hosts crashed to 15-4 in swinging and seaming conditions.

Joe Leach was pick of the Pears bowlers this morning with 3-24.

  18. Lunch at Blackpoolpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 17 May

Six overs from Ben Stokes have cost him 30, with Matthew Potts the only Durham bowler to claim a wicket in this morning session.

Luke Wells was the man to depart for 29, while Keaton Jennings is going well on 62 and Josh Bohannon has eight to his name.

  19. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 133-3 v Kent

Lovely shot from Tom Banton, picking the gap past extra cover and driving Grant Stewart for four.

Stewart pushes the ball out wider of off stump and Banton leaves it.

Four more driven through the off side and that's lunch.

Somerset rallied well after the early loss of Sean Dickson. They had a reprieve when Tom Lammonby was dropped on one by Zak Crawley and he goes to lunch unbeaten on 54.

Matt Renshaw batted with fluency for 40 before a rare false shot, driving Beyers Swanepoel to George Garrett at mid on.

    Honours just about even.

  20. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 67-6 v Hants

Something a recovery for Notts just before lunch, with Lyndon James and Calvin Harrison improving their position from 50-6.

Mohammad Abbas has the formidable figures of 3-9 from 10 overs, with Keith Barker, Kyle Abbott and James Fuller all capturing a wicket apiece to put Hampshire firmly on top.
