  1. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancs 10-0 v Durham

Keaton Jennings has rarely been renowned as a dasher, but the Lancashire captain has just injected some impetus against his former county, cracking Matthew Potts for two boundaries in three balls.

Jennings has contributed all 10 runs of the Red Rose total so far, with Luke Wells yet to get off the mark.

  2. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 18-1 v Kent

A bit of respite for the hosts as Tom Lammonby drives Beyers Swanepoel for four and picks up four more turned to square leg.

A slightly ragged over from Swanepoel after a great start with the wicket of Sean Dickson.

Four more to deep backward square leg.

  3. Postpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwicks 14-0

It's not quite T20 season yet, but this is a decent start for the Bears at Chelmsford.

Alex Davies and Rob Yates have taken seven runs apiece off the first four overs from Jamie Porter and Sam Cook.

    Surrey 9-1 v Worcs

No early alarm? Sorry about that.

Rory Burns has missed an attempted scoop to leg off Nathan Smith and is trapped in front of middle.

That ball looked a bit low too. Barely above ankle height.

Ollie Pope is in next and in need of runs after a lean spell thus far in 2024 with Surrey.

A top score of 44 in five innings so far for Pope.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Slater c Brown b Abbas 0published at 11:15 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 0-1 v Hants

Even better than three maidens, a wicket - and Hampshire have one of those now!

Mohammad Abbas gets one to leave Ben Slater and the left-hander tickles it behind for wicketkeeper Ben Brown to clasp it safely.

Will Young is the new man in for Notts.

  6. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 2-1 v Kent

Beyers Swanepoel is looking really dangerous and comes close to getting the other opener out as Matt Renshaw plays and misses with a crooked bat outside off stump.

He gets away with a leg bye and Tom Lammonby sees out the over.

  7. 'The pitch looks very dry'published at 11:14 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 13-0

    Sonia Twigg
    BBC Essex

    The pitch looks very dry.

Normally you get a bit of grass around on day one but it looks like a much later in the season pitch than it is.

  8. Postpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 9-0 v Worcs

Rory Burns is only dealing in boundaries so far.

Nathan Smith bowls just outside off stump and Burns is forward, closing the face of the bat at the last moment to tap the ball through mid wicket for his second four.

No early alarm for Surrey so far.

  9. 'Hampshire have a terrific record at Trent Bridge'published at 11:11 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 0-0 v Hants

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Hampshire have got such a terrific record up here in Nottingham.

They'll be looking to get their first win of the campaign.

  10. 'A real star studded line-up for this fixture'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancs 2-0 v Durham

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

It's a cloudy start to the day but we're starting on time.

We are going to see a certain Ben Stokes play his first County Championship match for two years.

We've also got Nathan Lyon in the Lancashire side so it's a real star studded line-up for this fixture and we're expecting a pretty big crowd to develop.

  11. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 0-0 v Hants

Hampshire certainly won't be too unhappy with their economy rate so far this morning - they've started with three maidens in a row.

Keith Barker has sent down two of those, with Mohammad Abbas delivering the other. Notts openers Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater are clearly biding their time.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Dickson c Finch b Swanepoel 0published at 11:06 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 0-1 v Kent

A maiden for Grant Stewart and now Beyers Swanepoel has struck in his first over!

Sean Dickson is caught behind for a fourth ball duck.

Tom Lammonby is in at three for the hosts.

  13. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 4-0 v Worcs

Not the best start for Joe Leach, who drifts wide of leg stump with his second ball, allowing an easy glance for Rory Burns through square leg for four.

Nathan Smith will bowl to Dom Sibley.

  14. Postpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 17 May

    Glamorgan 0-0 v Middlesex

Returning Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne is opening for Glamorgan in Cardiff.

It's his first game in more than two months. The 28-year-old scored 90 and six in his last outing for Australia in the second Test against New Zealand in March.

  16. Warwickshire bat first at Chelmsfordpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwicks 0-0

Both these sides suffered setbacks last time out, with Essex edged out by Somerset in a low-scoring encounter at Taunton while Warwickshire were heavily beaten by defending champions Surrey.

The Bears are having a bat at Chelmsford after Alex Davies won the toss and he'll be opening alongside Rob Yates.

There are two changes to the visitors' pace attack, with New Zealander Michael Rae making his Warwickshire debut along with Barbadian-born Che Simmons.
