  1. wicket

WICKET Waite LBW b Roach 35published at 18:18 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 111-6

A first wicket of the innings for Kemar Roach and the Pears are now six down.

Movement in off the seam just back of a length and Matthew Waite is stuck on the crease and hit in front of the stumps.

    Nathan Smith is in next.

  2. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 440-7 v Kent

Joey Evison will bowl the last over of the day from the River End.

Lewis Gregory plays defensively into the off side.

A short ball is tapped to long leg for one.

Migael Pretorius is off the mark with four runs steered past gully.

He sees out the rest of the over and that's stumps for day one.

A really tough session of play ends for Kent, who conceded 175 runs after tea.

The visitors got off to a fine start, dislodging Sean Dickson in the second over of the day.

But they were beset by a dropped catch by Zak Crawley when Tom Lammonby was (69) on one and the absence of George Garrett from the bowling attack, who left the field at 3pm this afternoon and did not return.

But the most memorable factor of the day was the batting of Tom Banton and James Rew, both scoring magnificent centuries.

Banton made his highest ever first-class score while 20-year-old Rew now has seven career centuries and a first of the current season.

  3. 100 for Michael Burgesspublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 17 May

    Essex v Warwickshire 301-6

Michael Burgess (Warwicks)Image source, Rex Features

Michael Burgess has had to be patient, but he's now followed Ed Barnard to three figures!

Burgess steers Shane Snater for a couple on the off side to reach his hundred from 149 balls - and also take the Warwickshire total past 300 in the process.

That scenario looked very unlikely indeed when the pair came together at 104-6.

It's a first century of the season for Burgess and his sixth overall.

  4. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 329-8 v Durham

Saqib Mahmood is certainly enjoying himself at the moment - he's just clobbered a Matthew Potts over for 14.

That included three boundaries, taking Mahmood to 31 from 23 balls as Lancashire look to push their total above 350.

Still eight overs to be bowled tonight.

Middlesex's openers Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson have taken them past fifty at Glamorgan. Stoneman has 40 in their 51-0, and they trail the hosts by just 132.

Cameron Bancroft's fine innings has ended at 160 for Gloucestershire. They're still in prime position on 379-2 at Leicestershire.

Northants remain handily placed at Derbyshire on 279-5 with Rob Keogh unbeaten on 68.

  6. wicket

WICKET C Overton c Finch b Gilchrist 23published at 18:08 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 435-7 v Kent

Nathan Gilchrist has his first wicket of the innings.

He cramps Craig Overton for room with a short ball, which is driven from the crease and edged to keeper Harry Finch.

Migael Pretorius is in at nine for the hosts.

  7. Pears pass 100 at the Ovalpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 108-5

Brett D'Oliveria is squared up by Kemar Roach and gets away with a couple of runs edged wide of the lone slip.

    That's the Worcestershire 100 in 29 overs.

Gus Atkinson bowls short to Matthew Waite initially and a fuller third ball is driven square by Matthew Waite for four.

That brings up a very precious 50 partnership for the sixth wicket off 66 balls.

Another full length ball is driven sweetly through mid off.

  8. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 431-6 v Kent

Four more runs to Craig Overton, on the back foot and cutting Nathan Gilchrist through cover.

10 runs off the over in total.

Lewis Gregory gets four runs off Joey Evison, driving through cover.

Two more overs left here tonight.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Hurst c Robinson b Raine 20published at 18:01 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 303-8 v Durham

Plenty of sunshine at Blackpool, but it's all about Ben Raine at the moment as the Durham bowler takes his second wicket with the new ball.

Matty Hurst is gone, tickling one down the leg side for Ollie Robinson to collect another catch.

  10. Postpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 94-5

Whisper it quietly, Pears fans - but this is a more than handy partnership in the context of this low-scoring match - currently worth 38 runs.

Gus Atkinson bowls short and Brett D'Oliveira ducks.

The last ball of the over is driven sweetly through the on side for three.

  11. 50 for Joe Rootpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 17 May

    Sussex 150 v Yorkshire 131-5

Joe Root's fine early summer form continues.

The England batter adds a half-century to back-to-back hundreds in the County Championship.

It's come in good time too, off 63 balls.

Can he make it three centuries in a row?

  12. wicket

WICKET: Stone c Dawson b Abbas 24published at 17:58 British Summer Time 17 May

    Notts 178-8 v Hants

Mohammad Abbas finally makes the breakthrough with his fourth wicket of the innings.

The Hampshire paceman finds the edge of Olly Stone's bat and the ball just about carries to Liam Dawson, who stoops at second slip to snap it up.

Superb effort from Stone, who helped Lyndon James to add 59 for that eighth wicket.

  13. Postpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 417-6 v Kent

Craig Overton is on the attack straight away, taking 10 runs off Nathan Gilchrist's over, including a powerful drive through cover for four.

He keeps the strike with three off the last ball.

He drives and gets a thick edge safely into the off side for a single.

  14. 'Rew innings was needed'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 410-6 v Kent

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

A great innings for James Rew and it was really, really needed but Joey Evison deserved that wicket, he's been bowling steadily and well.

  15. 'Durham have have kept things tight'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 300-7 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham, perhaps not having bowled as well as they could have done having put Lancashire in this morning, have stuck to their guns this afternoon.

They've put the pressure on and kept things generally tight.

  16. Postpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 87-5

Brett D'Oliveira stays in the crease and steers a full ball outside off wide of the slips, through to third man for four.

Two more runs off Sean Abbott to a leg side ball, turned round the corner.

  17. Second batting point for Lancashirepublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 17 May

    Lancashire 300-7 v Durham

No messing about from Saqib Mahmood, who slams Ben Raine back over his head for a six that not only gets him off the mark but takes Lancashire's total past 300.

If Mahmood plans on continuing that approach, these last 13 and a bit overs could be quite entertaining for the Blackpool crowd.

  18. Division Two latestpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 17 May

Joe Root's fighting a bit of a lone cause for Yorkshire at Sussex. The England batter has just stroked Fynn Hudson-Prentice through cover for his fifth four to go to 37.

But Yorkshire are wobbling on 106-5 in reply to Sussex's 150 all out.

Cameron Bancroft and Gloucestershire continue to pile on the runs at Leicestershire. Bancroft has 160 with the visitors now on 360-1.

After bowling Glamorgan out for 183, Middlesex have started well in their first innings. They're 35-0 in Cardiff.

And Northants are building a good first-innings score against Derbyshire. Rob Keogh has 64 in their 269-5.

  19. wicket

WICKET Rew LBW b Evison 114published at 17:45 British Summer Time 17 May

    Somerset 402-6 v Kent

Kent have prized out the other Somerset centurion.

James Rew is back to Joey Evison and is hit on the knee roll in front of middle and leg as he misses an attempted flick to leg.

Might have been a bit of late swing there as he played down the wrong line.

A superb innings from the Somerset keeper-batter.

The umpire raises his finger and now Craig Overton will join his captain Lewis Gregory in the middle.

  20. Postpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 17 May

    Surrey 213 v Worcs 78-5

Matthew Waite gets away with a thick outside edge, driving at Sean Abbott.

The ball flies just of of reach of a diving Dan Lawrence at slip and runs away for four.

Waite gets a single off the fifth ball and Brett D'Oliveira keeps the strike with a single punched away on the back foot through the off side.
