Archie Vaughan breathing life in to this game just as Washington Sundar was looking so comfortable, picking off the bad balls and blocking the good ones.

That one coming back in through the gate.

It was the arm ball and Sundar playing for the turn. Good bowling from Vaughan who has five wickets now.

Felix Organ is up to 50 balls faced. Another 50 and he may well have saved this match for Hampshire.

He's only scored four runs but this has been a very mature innings.

He might be coming in at seven, but he has played most his career as an opening batter.

  7. Postpublished at 16:27 BST 18 September

    Somerset 454-8 dec v Hampshire 172 & 176-6

A huge appeal from Archie Vaughan and his Somerset posse for an lbw against James Fuller.

Fuller looked well outside the line on this occasion.

The Hampshire batter is going at everything with hard hands, even when defending, so the close-in fielders will be very interested.

Nottinghamshire now lead Surrey by 14 points going into their final match of the season.

England fast bowler Josh Tongue took five wickets in the Surrey second innings to help his side to victory.

"What a game of cricket - it's why we play and to get a win at The Oval is an amazing feeling," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"I feel like I'm in a good place physically and in these big moments in these games you need a strike bowler - credit to all the other bowlers because we stuck at it really well over the four days.

"We knew if you just hung in there, bowled a good line and length the pitch was going to offer something so we just tried to stay in the present and it's worked out today.

"I've always wanted to win Division One, this is job done here at The Oval but now we focus on Trent Bridge (against Warwickshire) next week."

Craig Overton to Felix Organ now.

The first ball nips back and draws "oooohs" as Organ leaves.

Organ goes forward then back in his defences for the next two deliveries, before seeing out the over fairly comfortably.

  15. SUSSEX DRAW WITH YORKSHIREpublished at 16:20 BST 18 September
    Breaking

    Sussex 250 v Yorkshire 194 & 109-3

There were 23 overs of play remaining, but with the teams off the field for bad light, the umpires decide that the game is over.

Sussex take 12 points and Yorkshire 11 to aid them in their fight against possible relegation from Division One.

The Tykes were in trouble on 6-3 as spinner James Coles (3-45) found turn and bounce with the new ball.

But Jonny Bairstow hit 64 not out in an unbroken stand of 103 with James Wharton and Yorkshire were 53 ahead when the players departed from the middle.

    Robson c Bell b Bailey 21 (Lancashire 375-5d v Middlesex 211 & 55-2)

Tom Bailey gets a wicket with spin!!

This is far from the first time he has twirled but that is a wicket that came out of nowhere.

Sam Robson prods into his own pad and into George Bell's hands at short leg.

A glimmer of hope for the Lankys.

  17. Postpublished at 16:13 BST 18 September

    Somerset 454-8 dec v Hampshire 172 & 175-5

Here we go for Craig Overton vs Washington Sundar again.

Overton attempts a bumper, Sundar responds with an out-of-control hook to the ropes.

Next ball, Overton goes fuller, finds the drive, but there is no second slip to snaffle.

    This is a great battle.

Notts beat Surrey by 20 runs

Surrey's grip on the County Championship title is now only hanging by a fingertip after defeat by Nottinghamshire at The Oval and head coach, Gareth Batty admitted today's loss was a tough one to take.

"We had periods with both skill-sets where we could've been slightly better for longer periods," Batty told BBC Radio London.

"Now is not the time to be dissecting a pretty heavy loss for us - credit to Notts, they beat us on our patch and we've got some work to do.

"There were several times throughout the innings because of our recent past where you thought 'this is how it goes' but we didn't extend on periods of dominance and at any opportunity where they were let in, Notts did and that's why they've run out victors.

On next week's final game at Hampshire:

"Every time we put a shirt on for Surrey it's our job and we try to put on a performance and win a game.

"Eighty-odd thousand people have come through the gates to watch us this season so we'll be doing everything humanly possible to make sure we're on the right end of a result."

The umpires come together as the light gets a tad gloomy.

They ask Lancashire if they are happy to just bowl spin.

They answer in the affirmative and we continue.

Notts celebrate victory at The Oval

A twist in the title race.

Following Nottinghamshire's dramatic 20-run win over 2022, 2023 and 2024 champions Surrey at The Oval, we now understand they have been docked one point for a slow over rate.

That means their advantage over Surrey going into next week's final round of games will be 14 points.

If Somerset manage to beat Hampshire in their game, which is ongoing at Taunton, they will be 16 points behind the new leaders.
