That's us done from the first match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Karachi.

Take a read of Sam Drury's report, as New Zealand hammered the hosts Pakistan by 60 runs.

We'll be back tomorrow for the match between India and Bangladesh - that's another 09:00 GMT start.

    See you then.

  2. 'Glenn likes to add a bit of mayo'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner: "The way we went about it with the bat was pleasing. Pakistan bowled well, even through the middle stages, but the way we rotated the strike and got the odd boundary and gave us a really good platform before Glenn Phillips did his thing at the back end. We wanted 260 to 280 but it shows if you get in and build partnerships you can attack the last 10 overs with wickets in hand.

"After the score they got in the first 10 overs with the ball we were outstanding. The way our two big boys were able to smash a length and restrict them to 20 off the powerplay meant we could squeeze them through the middle. That meant we could build that run-rate pressure then chip at wickets."

On Glenn Phillips' catch: "We kind of expect that Glenn. He likes to add a bit of mayo to those catches but that was up there."

  3. 'New Zealand played very smartly'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan: “They put a good target on the board - we didn’t expect 320 like that.

“The partnerships were crucial and we tried our best, but they played very smartly and they put a good target on the board.”

On batting first: “We saw the conditions of the pitch, if you look earlier on at the pitch it wasn’t easy to bat on.

“We expect 250 is good on that pitch, but we made a mistake.”

On Fakhar Zaman injury: “We are not sure about this result. Let’s see when we get the results from the doctor.”

On the next game: “Every match is important for us. If you look at us being defending champions that's extra pressure on us.

“The next match is like a normal match.”

  4. 'Spinners did a fantastic job'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

Player of the match Tom Latham, who made 118 not out for New Zealand: "I think any time you play on a surface you get familiar with it. It was slightly different from the ones we played on in the tri-series, but it was obviously nice to personally contribute.

"I think the way Will Young played for us at the top of the innings, and the way Glenn Phillips played as well, for us to get 320 was well above par. I guess it was those contributions throughout the innings.

"I think when I came in it was just about building a partnership with Will Young. He played fantastically well and the longer we batted together we went through the gears and increased the run-rate. With these types of surfaces and boundaries you can make hay at the back end.

"Glenn Phillips played an exceptional hand and continued the momentum and the score we got was well above par. I was hoping GP would hit it the boundary a bit more but that's the nature of batting at the back end.

"In the field, we didn't see turn like that in the tri-series. The lack of dew and it turned a bit more than both teams expected. Nice to bowl second with conditions like that. Our spinners did a fantastic job."

Tom Latham adapted to the conditions, but it all started off with Will Young - he's a fan favourite back home.

Matt Henry has been understated with the way he bowled.

New Zealand knew exactly what they needed to do.

  6. How stat?!published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February

    • New Zealand innings: 27 fours, 8 sixes
    • Pakistan innings: 26 fours, 8 sixes

Despite scoring 60 fewer runs, Pakistan very nearly hit the same number of boundaries as their opponents.

It was their inability to rotate the strike early in the innings that was their downfall.

'Some entertainment!' - the best of Kushdil's half century innings

Khushdil's 69 from 49 was the best of Pakistan's innings, helping the tail bring some element of respectability to their score.

But by the time he came in the match was realistically already lost, with Pakistan falling way behind the required rate after scoring 22-1 in the first 10 overs.

Will Young, Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips showed how you bat in 50-over cricket.

This Pakistan team, how many more words to use to describe the cricketing situation in the country? Its selection committee consists of seven people, if that doesn't ring alarm bells... How have we not learned from our failed previous World Cup run relying on Babar and Rizwan yet again and having hope from there on, when the team around them have no merit to be there. Where is the future planning and where are our next stars? Why are we not learning from past mistakes?

When you've got your leaders struggling to get ahead of the game, it puts you so far behind.

Unfortunately, at the top you've not set the tone.

Babar Azam will look at that innings and think how can he bat with more intent earlier on.

An enterprising innings comes to a close.

Will O'Rourke bags the wicket of Khushdil Shah, sending down a short-ish ball at hurries the Pakistan batter a little.

He still gets a fair amount of bat on it, but the ball isn't able to clear Michael Bracewell at long-on.
