They have bowled and fielded well, New Zealand. The field has put pressure on Pakistan.

These two, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam with all the experience they have, they have to adjust on the fly.

Not the tonic Pakistan will have hoped for after drinks as Michael Bracewell rattles off a maiden. The tournament hosts are going to have to cut loose at some point.

Fakhar Zaman averages 67.50 in the Champions Trophy. However, that is dwarfed by the highest average of batters with three or more innings in this competition.

His compatriot Saeed Anwar averaged 145 in this tournament, with Ravindra Jadeja (95), Ben Stokes (92) and Virat Kohli (88) next on the list. Chris Gayle has the most runs with 791.

It's all well and good getting a four, but if you're not running the singles you need two boundaries - that makes it tricky.

The players take some liquid refreshment on board.

  6. Pak 53-2published at 15.2 overs

More sweeps than an afternoon at Mathew Corbett's house from Pakistan at the moment as Babar Azam gets involved, slog sweeping the second ball of Glen Phillips' second over for four.

    Nicely played.

There's something strangely fascinating about watching an injured batter figure out how they will can continue at the crease.

Fakhar Zaman twice slog sweeps Michael Bracewell for four behind square.

Fakhar Zaman got himself in a tangle. He's put himself in an unnatural position with that shot and that's aggravated the injury that he has ongoing. He's in a lot of discomfort.

  9. Pak 41-2published at 14 overs

A brief break in proceedings as Fakhar Zaman, who pulled up in the very first over of New Zealand's innings clutching his lower back and his ankle, receives some treatment from the Pakistan physio.

Fakhar gingerly picks up a single off the last-but-one ball of Glenn Phillips' over to keep the strike.

  10. Pak 40-2published at 13.3 overs

    Have a bit of that!

The left-handed Fakhar Zaman marches down the pitch and powerfully biffs the New Zealand left-arm spinner for four straight down the ground. Fakhar bristling with intent.

  11. Pak 35-2published at 13 overs

Even Babar Azam managed a quick word to congratulate Glenn Phillips for that catch.

Michael Bracewell with a tight over - just two runs off it - as Phillips is brought into the attack by Black Caps skipper Mitchell Santner.

Glenn Phillips has turned himself into an all-rounder. He's even getting dug in the ribs by the Pakistan batters!

  13. Pak 33-2published at 12 overs

There's a brief moment for that Glenn Phillips catch where his team-mates could not quite believe he had caught it. Phillips stood bolt upright with his chest out, a la Andy Moller at Euro 96, in celebration. His colleagues clocked that he had taken it cleanly and duly mobbed him.

Babar Azam starts to counterattack against Will O'Rouke in a bid to ignite Pakistan's chase. He caresses O'Rourke's second ball through third, then picks up another off the penultimate ball of the over with a rather more agricultural slap.

  14. Pak 24-2published at 11 overs

Fakhar Zaman is the new batter and he gets off the mark by dancing down the track and throwing the kitchen sink at a delivery from Michael Bracewell. He does not middle it, and the ball beats the outfield and plugs behind point.

What on earth have we just witnessed?

Glenn Phillips is so close at backward point, he's that close, he's having to dive backwards.

He plucks it from absolutely nowhere.

He is such a freak. He is such a good fielder. The way he had both his hands ready, he tracked it, you could see it with his eyes.

    Unbelievable.

    Rizwan c Phillips b O'Rourke 3 (Pak 22-2)

MY WORD. WHAT. A. CATCH. Glenn Phillips, take a bow.

Mohammad Rizwan flashes at a short wide one from Will O'Rourke and the ball flies off towards backward point. Phillips dives diagonally and his body is parallel to the ground as he clings on one-handed.

    Absolutely incredible.

Alex Hartley has just said 'when is it acceptable to say I'm bored?' on commentary. Hard to argue with that. Certainly you can sense the restlessness in the crowd at the National Bank Stadium growing with every ball.

    46 dot balls so far.

You have got Tayyab Tahir and Khushdil Shah to come later in the innings.

Those two can bat, Khushdil can whack it. But you don't want to be giving those lads too much work.

  20. Pak 21-1published at 9 overs

For all of Pakistan's struggles with the bat here, you have to give New Zealand some credit. They've bowled and fielded...exactly as you would expect a New Zealand to do so, in fact.

Mohammad Rizwan has three off 13 balls. Babar Azam has 11 off 22 deliveries following the conclusion of Matt Henry's fifth over.

    Slim pickings so far.
