Narendra Hirwani who took 16 wickets on his Test debut for India, and also wore a headband, is my favourite bespectacled cricketer.

    Matthew in Sheffield

He didn’t wear glasses, but if Glenn McGrath had been wearing some before the Edgbaston Test match, he might not have tripped on that ball!

    Jono in Bath

I think Boycott needs mentioning twice, due also to the glasses he wore in commentary when a fellow Yorkshireman was batting.

    Tattz in Harborne

For me, the way New Zealand have timed this innings is why I like them as a team. The way they play their cricket makes so much sense for 50 overs.

Thanks to those who spotted we put Middlesex's Michael J Smith rather than Warwickshire's MJK Smith a little earlier. Sincere apologies.

Here's a bespectacled MJK in full flow with the bat for Warwickshire in 1967.

We're off to the opticians for an eye test.

Before we launch into some more of your bespectacled cricketers here's the best of Tom Latham's hundred.

New Zealand batter Will Young: "It means a great deal, to get the Champions Trophy under way like that is a great moment for me. It was key for us to regain the momentum in overs 20-30 and the way the boys finished it off was the icing on the cake."

Two superb partnerships from New Zealand have put them in control of this match.

Will Young and Tom Latham ground Pakistan down in the middle overs, before Latham was joined by Glenn Phillips for some late-innings acceleration.

The Black Caps added 113 in the final ten overs, impressive stuff.

It feels like too many, but we don't know about the dew factor, will the dew come into play?

What's interesting is the Pakistan team have huddled around.

They've chased a target like this down against South Africa recently - they will take confidence from that.

  10. NZ 320-5published at 50 overs

Michael Bracewell comes to the crease for the final two balls of the innings, and he takes a leg bye to bring Tom Latham on strike for the final delivery.

Latham chips Rauf towards square leg - the first fielder manages to slip past the ball, but Abrar Ahmed reacts well to stop the ball on the boundary, while the New Zealand batters run three.

The New Zealand Test captain finishes on 118 not out, Rauf closes with figures of 2-83 and Pakistan will chase 321.

We talk about match-winning knocks and that's a match-winning knock from Glenn Phillips.

    His strike-rate was unbelievable.

Glenn Phillips won't make it to the end.

He toe-ends a ramp to short third, the ball looping kindly to Fakhar Zaman who takes the catch.

His 39-ball innings comes to an end, as does a superb 125-run partnership.

  13. NZ 311-4published at 49.2 overs

Haris Rauf to bowl the final over.

Tom Latham takes a leg bye off the first ball of the over, then Glenn Phillips smashes a full toss through cover for four.

This is a hammer blow when you've got to bring in another fielder as it creates another gap.

Shaheen Shah will feel hard done by in that over. It's an expensive over at this stage of the game.

Going into the last over and New Zealand are well and truly on top.

  15. NZ 306-4published at 49 overs

By the way, Pakistan have had to bring a fielder into the ring as they're behind the over rate.

New Zealand's batters take advantage, hitting a four apiece - Latham guiding a yorker down to third, then Phillips striking down the ground.

In between, a Latham single to point brings up New Zealand's 300.

Shaheen is done with figures of 0-68, and we have one over to go in the innings.

A single out to long-on off the bowling of Shaheen, and that's a half-century for Glenn Phillips.

    It comes off 34 balls.

  17. NZ 294-4published at 48 overs

Latham is OK to continue, and he and Phillips hustle through three further runs from the rest of the over.

  18. NZ 291-4published at 47.3 overs

We're having a little break here - Latham edged the next delivery into his helmet.

He still managed to run a single, but it was quite a hard impact and the physios are making sure he's OK.

The run brings up the century partnership off 61 balls.

    Six more for Latham!

He pulls Haris Rauf over deep backward square, beating the jump of Khushdil Shah, who is the fielder out there.

He was a little in from the ropes and had to backpedal - had he been on them then Latham might have been walking off.
