Will Young was brilliant. In the last 12 months he's had a few opportunities, and he's made the most of it today.

    A calm and controlled innings.

  2. NZ 198-4published at 39 overs

Shaheen Shah Afridi continues, sending down a couple of wides.

He and Naseem have both bowled eight overs, while Haris has bowled seven, so expect a mix of both seam and spin in the final ten overs.

That wicket has dragged Pakistan back into it on WinViz.

Meanwhile Glenn Phillips has come to the crease for New Zealand - he gets off the mark from his third ball, knocking Naseem for a single behind square.

    A slog from Will Young.

Young did not venture into the shot. He tried to hit a six, but it was well caught by Faheem Ashraf, the substitute.

Young has held the innings together, it's a valuable effort.

Young c sub (Ashraf) b Naseem Shah 107 (NZ 191-4)

What a catch in the deep!

Will Young smacked Naseem Shah's opening ball through the covers for four, and he goes again from the following delivery, pulling hard and high.

The New Zealand opener has put a lot of elevation on the ball and that gives sub fielder Faheem Ashraf time to run in from the boundary, taking the grab on the slide.

The centurion's innings comes to an end, as does a partnership of 118.

  6. NZ 187-3published at 37 overs

Pakistan bring Shaheen Shah Afridi back into the attack as they search for a breakthrough, but his first ball is a loose one - Latham tucks in, driving through the covers for four.

The rest of the over goes better, with nothing more coming from it.

On a surface like this you have got to be playing the game like an old timer.

Will Young and Tom Latham have given themselves a chance to blast away. Young is not a bit hitter of the ball so they'll probably need him right till the end.

    NZ 183-3

    Half-century up for Tom Latham!

He chips the fourth ball of Haris Rauf's over past mid-on for three, bringing up his landmark from 61 balls.

It's consecutive fifties for him too - he made 56 against this opposition on Friday, in the final of their tri-series with South Africa at this ground.

Isn't it nice to see two batters building innings working towards a decent total as averse to just trying to smash everything all the time. It's 50 overs and a little patience is sometimes required. Bazball isn't always the answer.

What an exceptional century that was.

I like the way Will Young goes through the gears. He showed real maturity and was able to absorb that pressure when his partners were falling at the other end.

    And there's the century!

Will Young had to wait a while but he's got his 100, sweeping Abrar Ahmed away for a single.

A superb knock from the New Zealand opener - his fourth ODI hundred and his first overseas, it comes off 107 balls.

We are starting to hear the crowd get behind their team now.

Haris Rauf after that review - three balls and he could have had three wickets.

Pressure is a funny thing. Is Tom Latham feeling the pressure of Will Young on 99 and not out?

  15. NZ 171-3published at 34 overs

No stopping that one - Latham pulls Haris' penultimate delivery away for four.

The Pakistan seamer then takes four attempts to bowl his final ball, pulling out of his run-up as he seemingly struggles with his footing.

When it does come down, Latham takes two to square leg.

  16. dropped catch

Latham dropped on 41published at 33.2 overs

    NZ 165-3

Should be gone from the next delivery!

Latham nails a pull at Salman Agha at short-ish mid-wicket but the fielder spills the ball trying to take the catch on the leap.

The ball is then thrown down at the non-striker's end and Will Young - still on 99 - has to hurry back to avoid getting run out.

"Clear line, clear line, clear line," intones third umpire Joel Wilson.

Nothing on the technology - Latham survives.

He went for the pull shot on a ball drifting down the leg side, which was gathered impressively on the dive by Rizwan.

And because it went down leg, it's been given as a wide.

I like that from Mohammed Rizwan. When he first took over the captaincy he was quite hot-headed.

He took his time to think about that.

You can see Will Young visibly frustrated with those three dot balls.

It's a brilliant partnership from these two. Soon as Young gets his 100 - he will have some fun.
