It's fair to say South Africa have the upper hand, according to WinViz.

  2. SA 66-1published at 8 overs

Another important contribution from Laura Wolvaardt today, her third consecutive score of 40 or more in the tournament.

    Leading by example.

It's a really good catch and Laura Wolvaardt goes! Can you believe it?

A firmly struck shot and she didn't get the elevation that she was wanting.

It was plucked from the air and it's wonderful work from Olivia Bell.

    Wolvaardt c Bell b Fraser 40 (SA 64-1)

What a stunning catch! Katherine Fraser makes up for her dropped catch somewhat, and gets rid of the South Africa captain with a big helping hand from Olivia Bell.

Wolvaardt skips down the pitch and gets hold of one that looks to be flying through the covers, before Bell interferes with a perfectly-timed leap to pluck it out of the air.

Scotland need to capitalise on that breakthrough.

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt continues to build a strong opening partnership with Tazmin Brits, taking a liking to seamer Rachel Slater in particular.

I don't want to be cruel, but that's not good [fielding] from Scotland.

  7. SA 64-0published at 7 overs

South Africa have been rewarded for their positivity, but Scotland also haven't helped themselves.

A short ball from Abtaha Maqsood is pulled for four, but slips right through the legs of the fielder at square leg. Darcey Carter has to scramble out on the boundary to restrict it to two.

Still, only four from the over is a good result for the bowling side.

South Africa are on it today.

I was watching Slater's follow through and I see a white missile fly to the boundary!

So far, this is the highest powerplay score we've seen in this World Cup.

  10. SA 60-0published at 6 overs

Tazmin Brits does indeed take Rachel Slater down.

On two occasions she is offered far too much width, and both are slammed through the covers for four.

Laura Wolvaardt then gets a bit lucky, edging one over point for the third boundary in an over that concedes 17.

That is a very productive powerplay for South Africa and this productive opening partnership continues to flourish.

Really good start from South Africa. Rachel Slater is going to bowl her third to finish off this powerplay.

You wouldn't be surprised if Brits and Wolvaardt try to take Slater down.

  12. SA 42-0published at 5 overs

    Cracking response from Kathryn Bryce.

Under pressure, the penultimate over of the powerplay goes for just four. There's plenty of Scottish support out in Dubai and their team needs a boost here.

A big hit from Laura Wolvaardt - she comes charging down the wicket with a free swing of the bat.

Wolvaardt wants to get a move on! She seems up for it today.

    SA 38-0published at 4 overs

    Yep, they're going hard.

Leg-spinner Olivia Bell's first over is taken for a whopping 14, including the first six of the day, lofted down the ground with Laura Wolvaardt's trademark elegance.

This looks like a much better pitch and outfield than we've previously seen.

That was stuck well from Laura Wolvaardt. It was a very over pitched ball and Wolvaardt waited for it - she set herself to go leg-side.

It looks like the South Africans want to go hard in this power play.

And that's why you don't give Laura Wolvaardt a second chance.

The South Africa skipper lofts one gloriously over mid-on for four, before guiding another down to deep third for the same result.

Scotland are really up against it here, only three overs in.

Scotland have just recently beaten West Indies so they will be very disappointed to not get anything from those first two games in the tournament.

I think Scotland have bowled well, but their fielding and batting has let them down.

  18. SA 13-0published at 2 overs

Of course, the next ball is clubbed through the covers for four by Wolvaardt.

Tazmin Brits then drives her first boundary from the final delivery, and that's 10 runs from the over plus the drop.

That's a stinker for Scotland and a tough one for the bowler Kathryn Bryce to take.

The full toss was a freebie!

This tournament has seen some bad drops, but that's as bad as I've ever seen in any tournament.

  20. dropped catch

Wolvaardt dropped on 2published at 1.1 overs

    SA 3-0

Oh my word. What a huge moment and one that could prove so costly.

This is really poor, even if you consider this is Scotland's first World Cup so there are probably still some nerves. It's a filthy full toss from Kathryn Bryce that is miscued up to mid-off by Laura Wolvaardt.

It's catching practice for Katherine Fraser, she doesn't have to move. Somehow, it hits the turf.
