It takes 13 balls but Ollie Hannon-Dalby gets off the mark with a leg-side glance for a single off Dan Worrall.

40 is the magic number for Bears if they are to have a bonus point to show for their efforts in the middle.

    Sussex 122 v Hants 226 & 2-0 - lead by 104

The second over will be bowled by Jaydev Unadkat.

    Sussex 122 v Hants 226 & 0-0 - lead by 104

Huge advantage to Hampshire as they look to build a buffer zone of points to distance themselves yet further from the relegation zone.

Fletcha Middleton and Ali Orr are the Hampshire openers and will face Ollie Robinson first up.

Gus Atkinson’s second spell of the morning pulled the game back to apparent parity, just as Warwickshire seemed to be chipping out an advantage.

That positive position for the Bears was sculpted by Will Young, making his first appearance for the county as deputy for Tom Latham, his injured countryman, and they will be grateful for his patience.

His 65 has so far occupied four-and-a-quarter hours, and he has operated at a different pace to all of the other batters to make a significant score in this match, save for a top-edged six off Atkinson.

He reached lunch with the sturdy defender Ollie Hannon-Dalby for company, but is running short of partners.

His union with Ed Barnard, which settled Warwickshire last night, extended only another 15 minutes today before Barnard touched a ball that left him from Atkinson, who returned later to knock over Michael Booth and Ethan Bamber.

Ollie Pope was back to his usual reliable self in the slips, taking two catches in the session, but the chance he missed last night – putting down Young when he had made only 10 – may yet become a more significant development in this match than it seemed at the time.

  9. Abbott showed 'excellent control'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 9 September

A tremendous morning for Hampshire taking the remaining seven Sussex wickets for just 80 runs and establishing a more than useful lead of 104 in a low-scoring game.

Kyle Abbott was the pick of the Hampshire attack, bowling at good pace and excellent control down the hill, he caused all kinds of problems for the Sussex batters.

Only Tom Alsop showed the necessary application on a tricky batting surface, and Sussex will need to show better resolve second time around, or need help from the weather, if they are to avoid a third Championship defeat in a row.

  11. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 9 September

    Worcs 182 v Notts 121-4

Kyle Verreynne is off the mark with a glance to leg off the back foot, facing Tom Taylor.

Ben Allison rushes into position at the other end for one more over before lunch and immediately beats Verreynne, stuck on the crease and wafting at off stump.

He is subsequently forward to block into the off side, then down the ground and Notts get to lunch 61 adrift and six wickets in hand.

But they could have been five down had Jake Libby held on to a tough chance diving at slip when Joe Clarke was on 17.

He's now 34 not out and Verreynne has one.

  12. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 9 September

    Somerset 235-4 v Yorkshire

Just a couple of runs added from the final over of the morning at Taunton with Tom Abell just three short of a half-century.

Yorkshire removed James Rew with the third ball of the day and Somerset initially found scoring very difficult against a miserly seam attack.

But Abell and Lewis Goldsworthy (34 not out) have collected nine fours between them and are now looking fairly comfortable as they look to steer their side to a sizeable first-innings score.

  13. Postpublished at 75 overs

    Somerset 233-4 v Yorks

We have a slightly extended morning session at Taunton because of yesterday's time lost to rain.

Yorkshire now have spin at both ends - but Tom Abell and Lewis Goldsworthy are still together, having added 80 so far since the early dismissal of James Rew for 54.

  14. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 9 September

    Kent 293 v Lancashire 118-3

Luke Wells remains unbeaten on 56 at lunch, with nine fours in his 99-ball stint, but Kent have managed to oust Keaton Jennings (17), Josh Bohannon (0) and Marcus Harris (32) in the opening session.

The hosts lead is down to 175.

    Haynes c Libby b Allison 2 (Worcs 182 v Notts 119-4)

Now then! Do Worcestershire have a sniff?

Ben Allison draws Jack Haynes forward to defend and gets a nick through low to Jake Libby at second slip.

    Kyle Verreynne to bat next.

Lunch here is at the slightly later time of 12.40.

  16. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 35 overs

    Middlesex 106-3 v Derbyshire 283

Leus du PlooyImage source, Rex Features

Leus du Plooy swishes Anuj Dal down to third man for four as a highly competitive session comes to an end at Lord's.

Resuming on 12-0, Middlesex lost Sam Robson early but Josh de Caires batted well for 46 before he became Rory Haydon's first victim in Championship cricket.

Du Plooy is 18 not out at the interval and Ryan Higgins has 10 - they trail by 177 runs.

  17. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 September

    Surrey 246 v Warwickshire 206-8

    Surrey on top this morning.

Ed Barnard went for a gutsy 50 in the early stages and then a spell of 3-30 late in the morning session has seen the hosts go in for lunch with a lead of 40 and just two wickets left to take for a first-innings lead.

Will Young has batted nicely for more than four hours for his 65* on debut but his side need 44 more runs for a batting bonus point in a division where every point could be crucial in the final reckoning later this month.

  18. Sussex all out and lunch at Hovepublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 9 September

    Sussex 122 v Hants 226

Tom Alsop is 39 not out and somehow needs to get Sussex some more runs and take most of the strike.

Alsop works Bjorn Fortuin into the on side but decides against the single.

Down the track to the fourth ball, driven and caught at deep mid wicket by Nick Gubbins! Gone for 39.

The innings is over and Hampshire have a lead of 104!

Bjorn Fortuin finishes with 4-30 and will no doubt enjoy his lunch.

  19. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 9 overs

    Leicestershire 40-1 v Gloucestershire 482

Rishi Patel reaches for a wide one from Matt Taylor and steers it through the covers for four before an edge from the final ball just fails to carry to slip.

He is 14 not out as Leicestershire reach lunch with only Sol Budinger 'back in the hutch'.

But it has been Gloucestershire's morning at Grace Road, having added exactly 100 to their overnight 382-7 with Zaman Akhter scoring 64 and adding 58 with Taylor (26)

  20. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 9 September

    Essex 49-1 v Durham 333

    Essex's morning.

The hosts polished off the Durham tail for the addition of just 17 runs to their overnight score, ensuring maximum bowling points and denying Durham a precious second batting point.

Ben Raine did oust Paul Walter early in the reply but Dean Elgar (33*) and Tom Westley (12*) have dug in to whittle away the lead, which is down to 284.

They'll need to up the tempo if they want batting points of their own, of course, but these two batted together for more than 400 balls against Durham in an effort to save a rain-affected game last season and look very comfortable in each other's company.
