  3. Postpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 8 May

    Van Gerwen 1-1 Humphries

Sluggish in the first leg, brilliant in the second.

That sums up Michael van Gerwen this year.

But an 11-darter for the Dutchman, including the first 180 of the match, draws him level.

That atmosphere, as you would expect, for Luke Humphries was excellent.

Being a Leeds United fan and the best-ranked darts player in the world is only going to down well here.

Helped by Leeds United's promotion this week, it is a very good week to be Cool Hand.

Not a leg either player will look back on particularly fondly but Luke Humphries wins in eventually.

Double four for a 19-dart hold.

    It'll do.

    Van Gerwen v Humphries

Luke Humphries is really playing up to the crowd, playing the role of conductor as they sing along to his walk-on song, I Predict A Riot - by Leeds band Kaiser Chiefs, of course - long after the music has been turned off.

He's got his his yellow and blue, Leeds-inspired shirt on. But now he's got a job to do.

The Premier League is something that Michael van Gerwen has not found easy, but he normally gets the business done.

It is in his hands if he just keeps picking up points, it really is about not losing that first game and giving others a chance to catch up and overtake.

He just has to string matches together and he'll be just fine.

  8. 'Things are not getting easier'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 8 May

    Van Gerwen v Humphries

Michael van Gerwen talking to Sky Sports: "This year is a little bit different, I have made it a little bit harder than I need to probably, but I am still going. Things are not getting easier, they are getting harder and I need to make sure I do it.

"To play against Luke Humphries is always tough, hard and a quick game. You like to battle against these players but there can only be one winner and tonight I hope it is my turn."

At last season’s Premier League meeting at Leeds’ First Direct Arena, then world champion Luke Humphries used it as a chance to change his walk-on song to ‘I Predict A Riot’ by Kaiser Chiefs.

Humphries, a Leeds United supporter, also dressed for the occasion by wearing a Leeds-inspired white shirt for the evening, going on to win the evening with victory over Michael Van Gerwen in the final.

A year on, Cool Hand will want to defend his Leeds crown and will again pay homage to a crowd who will still be celebrating Leeds United winning the Championship title five days ago.

Tonight, Humphries will wear a yellow and blue jersey that is also inspired by the club’s colours.

“I always like to do a special version. It just feels yellow this year for Leeds. It feels pretty decent, I’m quite happy with it,” Humphries told talkSPORT.

Fair to say this group of guys are covering their bases tonight.

Have they found the week 14 winner between them?

Most of the Leeds faithful will hope not because there's no Luke Humphries.

But they have picked the first two quarter-final victors...

  11. 'Home' crowd boost for Humphriespublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 8 May

Luke Humphries was born in Berkshire and grew up there before moving to Crewe - but Leeds is his 'home' event.

The big Leeds United fan will have the crowd behind him as he targets a first nightly win since week four.

The world number one has been in six finals this season but won only two so now would be a good time to get back to winning ways.

Sitting second on 26 points, Humphries is still well set to make the play-offs but with the chasing pack edging ever closer, a win tonight would help put it beyond doubt.

Among that chasing pack is seven-time Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen.

Remarkably, the Dutchman is still searching for his first nightly win after losing to Luke Littler in last week's final.

After Nathan Aspinall's loss, Mighty Mike will end the night a minimum of three points clear of fifth with a win.

    Result: Aspinall 4-6 Littler

Luke Littler averaged just 91.41 with a solitary 180 but still gets the win to extend his lead at the top of the table.

Nathan Aspinall was at 95.81 with two 180s, as well as more 100-plus and 140-plus visits.

He lost it on the doubles, though. Just four of 14 for 28.6% while Littler's checkout percentage was 42.9%.

    A huge blow to Aspinall's top-four hopes.

Double five finishes the job for Luke Littler.

The world champion is through to the semi-finals but that one is going to hurt Nathan Aspinall.

Big missed chances when 4-3 up and at 4-4 have cost him dearly.

Littler was nowhere near his best but he progresses with a chance to extend his nightly win record.

The last two legs will have hurt Nathan Aspinall, especially if he goes onto lose this game.

Michael van Gerwen will be loving this in the back room.

  15. Littler one leg from victorypublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 8 May

    Aspinall 4-5 Littler

    Oh, Nathan.

Four more darts for the leg for Nathan Aspinall but he never looked confident.

One dart at tops and three at double 10. All go awry.

He could have had this match won already but instead, he needs to break just to force a last-leg decider.

  16. Postpublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 8 May

    Aspinall 4-4 Littler

Goodness me. If Nathan Aspinall doesn't win this match, this is the leg he will look back on.

The Stockport man misses five darts to break for a 5-3 lead, the second two after Luke Littler had missed two himself.

The world champ only gives you so many chances, though, and comes back to hit double 10.

    All square.

The chants of “Nathan Aspinall, Aspinall” quickly merge into “Leeds are going up, going up.”

It’s fair to say a good few people inside here haven’t stopped celebrating this week.

    Aspinall 4-3 Littler

    Superb again from Nathan Aspinall.

The pressure was off with Luke Littler not down to a finish but The Asp takes out a 100-plus checkout for the second leg running.

It's 'just' 112 this time. Double 16 to take it.

Needing 164 to break Luke Littler’s throw and level up, Nathan Aspinall took that out superbly.

Littler nods in acknowledgement of that finish.

  20. Aspinall takes out 164published at 20:10 British Summer Time 8 May

    Aspinall 3-3 Littler

What a way to respond from Nathan Aspinall!

With Luke Littler leaving himself 137, The Asp has 164 to break straight back.

Treble 19... treble 19... Bullseye! Fantastic from Aspinall.
