    Humphries 1-4 Wright

If you look at the numbers, Luke Humphries didn't play that badly at all. Against most people, it is a performance that would have been more than good enough.

But not against Peter Wright in this form.

Wright averaged 100.93 to Humphries' 99.23, while Snakebite also found his doubles a stunning 70% of the time. Cool Hand's 56% is a very good number but was second best on this occasion.

  5. 'I want to win it for a third time'published at 23:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Humphries 1-4 Wright

Peter Wright, speaking on Sky Sports: "Luke gave me a load of chances there, he didn’t play like he can.

"I’ve never had support like this in my life, thank you all. It’s amazing. I’ve been struggling for form all year and it’s so annoying because I know I can still play darts.

"I’ve never experienced anything like [that crowd] in the world.

"Luckily I wasn’t playing Luke Humphries from last year because he was awesome.

"I’m a double world champion and I want to win it for a third time. I’m not too old and you only have to play well for two or three weeks the whole year. These three weeks are all that matters and I’m in the quarter-finals.

"I thought I played rubbish tonight so hopefully I can play better and score better in the next round. As long as this crowd is behind me, I’ve got a chance."

    Oh my goodness!

That is a leg of the very highest quality! Luke Humphries hit back-to-back 180s, left himself 41 but never got a look at it.

Peter Wright hit a maximum of his own and then hits the bull for a brilliant - and hugely important - 88 out.

    Humphries 1-2 Wright (2-1)

It's Luke Humphries who is clinical in this leg to ensure yet another hold.

With Peter Wright have moved into position to break, the world champion has one dart at tops and nails it.

    Humphries 1-2 Wright (1-0)

Dominant leg for Luke Humphries to start the fourth set.

    Double four seals an 11-darter.

Given how well Peter Wright is doing on the outer ring, Humphries won't want to give the two-time champion a sniff.
