Right, here we go. A grudge match of sorts to round off the evening with a two-time world champion trying to end the current's champ's reign.

Peter Wright is first up to the stage, dancing back and forth, which suggests he's feeling better than he did in round three when he literally coughed and spluttered his way through his match against Jermaine Wattimena.

There's a good reception for Luke Humphries, too, and he also looks to get the crowd going once he's on stage. Playing conductor as his walk-on song, I Predict A Riot, plays.

    Humphries v Wright

    John Part
Former PDC world champion on Sky Sports

Luke Humphries does have a bit of a chip on his shoulder and his name is Luke Littler. He is the world number one and he likes to make that clear. That's no better way to prove that than beating a rival like Peter Wright at a World Championship.

There is a little bit of added spice to the last match of the evening following a bit of verbal jousting between Peter Wright and Luke Humphries.

Wright made comments that he could still be better than both Humphries and Luke Littler and the world champion has responded strongly in recent days.

"He's had a lot to say over the last couple of weeks, where he says he doesn't fear me and Luke Littler," Humphries said of tonight's opponent.

"He says he's going to smash us. All the pressure's on him now because if he doesn't the egg's on his face not mine.

"I think Peter loves to play the mind games but it don't work with me. I'm one world title away from almost matching his career and I'm about 25 years younger. So I think one [more] world title would match everything he's achieved in the game."

  6. 'I promise I will get better'published at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Clayton 2-4 Price

Gerwyn Price talking to Sky Sports: "I thought the first two sets I blew him away, then I couldn't hit a barn door. I was trying too hard. It was a tough game in more senses than one. I wanted to win but he's a great friend, not that matters because I'm here to win. We talk in the breaks and he says 'good darts' and I say 'good darts' but then I'm like 'Jonny, go away!'. I promise I will get better.

"It is probably because of the season I've had. I've missed loads of doubles and let people win games. I haven't been playing badly. I haven't played my best by no means but I am into the quarter-finals.

"Jonny is one of my best friends and if I'm not Welsh and world number one then I'm happy for Jonny to be there. But I am going to get it back!"

    Clayton 2-4 Price

Gerwyn Price can put his feet up until New Year's Day now.

He's through to the quarters and awaits the winner of Kevin Doets v Chris Dobey.

Price averaged 107 after two sets, he ends with an average of 92.28 and a checkout percentage of 36.1.

He's still going in the draw, though, and that is what really matters.

Tops gets it done for Gerwyn Price!

A scrappy final leg to end a fairly scrappy performance following a blistering start.

For two sets the Ice Man was phenomenal but, suddenly, that form eluded him and Jonny Clayton fought back to level at 2-2.

Price never rediscovered the form of those first two legs and had a tough time on the doubles. But he upped his level enough to get the win.

He's the first player into the quarter-finals.

That's one back for Jonny Clayton.

He has the darts and streaks clear in the leg, eventually taking it on double four.

Over to Gerwyn Price, who will throw for the match...

Listen to the roar from Gerwyn Price!

He is a leg away from the last eight now.

    Another big hold - a 14-darter - sealed with a two-dart finish to take out 65.

Can Jonny Clayton come back from the brink?

    Dan Dawson
    Commentator on Sky Sports

Gerwyn Price has shown spells in this tournament where you think 'he could go on and win this tournament again' but then he has spells where he drops off again.

He's gone from fired up to forlorn in 10 seconds repeatedly in this tournament.

  12. Price breaks to start sixth setpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Clayton 2-3 Price (0-1)

Gerwyn Price is two legs away from the quarter-finals!

Another storming leg from the 10th seed and, despite a wobble on the doubles again, he eventually hits double 10 to break.

After two misses, Jonny Clayton had the chance to snatch the hold but he couldn't take it.

  13. Price takes the fifth setpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 29 December 2024

    Clayton 2-3 Price (1-3)

Gerwyn Price has come to life again after a rather prolonged lull.

He begins with a 180 and goes on to claim a hugely important 14-dart break to move to within a set of victory.

The Ice Man could have wrapped it up in 11 darts but a couple of misses gave Clayton a chance.

However, he missed double 19 and Price returns to wrap it up.

    Superb from Gerwyn Price.

He's down to 24 after 12 darts following three ton-plus visits - and hits the double 12 at the third attempt.

    Jonny Clayton hits back.

It stays on throw in this fifth set as The Ferret hits tops for an 18-dart hold.

Not the cleanest leg overall but it'll do for Clayton.

One dart at double 20 to hold in the opening leg of the set... and Gerwyn Price takes it.

He needed that after a couple of disappointing sets to let Jonny Clayton right back into the match.

It was another disappointing afternoon for Tottenham midfielder James Maddison as Spurs were held at home by Wolves.

He's at Alexandra Palace this evening soaking in the action though.

We know Maddison loves his darts - he's even coined his own darts-related goal celebration.

    Clayton 2-2 Price (3-1)

Gerywn Price chooses to lay up rather than try and finish the leg in one visit and it costs him.

Jonny Clayton isn't on a finish but he's not far off so it was always a risky move, especially when you then miss three darts at double - two tops and double 10.

Clayton gives him another chance by missing tops himself but Price still can't finish it off.

The Ferret can. Double 10 to make it 2-2.
