Great Britain have missed out on the chance to compete for the gold medal in the wheelchair rugby.

It all started to go downhill in the second quarter when the USA stole the ball numerous times to accelerate into the lead.

Australia will be Great Britain's opponents in the bronze medal match on Monday at 12:30 BST. The USA will play Japan later in the day for gold.

Will Ellard, Rhys Darbey, Poppy Maskill and Olivia Newman-Baronius...

    That was superb!

Ellard got ParalympicsGB off to a great start and Darbey kept the lead going, albeit just, when the men finished at halfway.

The major difference came when Poppy Maskill started leg three. The lead she built up was simply out of this world, finishing leg three over four seconds ahead, a lead she built in the most incredible fashion.

Olivia Newman-Baronius was the swimmer to get the job done, clinching victory by more than three seconds.

Australia take the silver, with Brazil, who were level with Great Britain at halfway, clinching the bronze.

"It means more than anything. I’d never dared imagine would be in this position. To finally finish first is amazing.

"I wouldn’t be who I am if it wasn't for my family and do it here with all my friends and family - it feels like a wonderful journey I've shared with all of them.

Disappointing news for ParalympicsGB in the boccia, after Indonesia's Muhamad Syafa defeated previous Paralympic gold medallist David Smith 5-3 to grab bronze.

The Brit was ahead after the first end but lost the lead and, with it, his chances of a medal. Just like Claire Taggart, however, he will have another chance to pick up a medal in the mixed team competition.

Speaking about the depth of talent now within the sport, Smith said: "It's definitely the toughest one [Paralympics] I've ever played in.

"The depth in the sport is so different to when I won gold in Rio. In Tokyo, there were a few more, but it was still mainly me and a couple of others.

"I've been clinging on to being world number one with my fingernails knowing there are people ready to take it. Unfortunately, this time round it was not to be, but we still have the team event to go and I think we have a good chance."

With two events - and potentially two gold medals for Britain - still to come in tonight's swimming programme, Maisie Summers-Newton says the success of the GB team in the pool is driving everyone on to more success.

Britain now has 14 medals so far at La Defense Arena, nine of them gold.

Summers-Newton, who retained her SB6 100m breaststroke title earlier tonight for her second gold in Paris, said: "Everyone is like 'Wow'. We are doing so well. Even last night, three gold medals basically back to back, it's crazy. I'm so pleased for the team and it definitely drives you on even more."
