She has seven Paralympic gold medals, 16 World Championship titles and the women's T34 100m world record.

But Hannah Cockroft says she still felt pressure before her morning heat.

"I feel now when I line up at the start everyone expects me to win,” she said after qualifying fastest for the final.

"That’s scary, but I want to make people proud, so it’s even more pressure.

"There was a tiny slip at the start, maybe, and a little wobble, so I will definitely need to go quicker in the final. It’s not the confidence boost I wanted but maybe it’s a wake-up call.

"I don’t want that to stand as a Paralympic performance."

After finishing third in Rio as a teenager, Sabrina Fortune came to Tokyo with high hopes of another medal, but only finished fifth.

But since then, the Welsh woman has been the athlete to beat in this event, winning gold at the 2023 Worlds in Paris and retaining her title earlier this year in Kobe, Japan where she set a new world record, further extending that mark in an event in Birmingham in July.

She told BBC Sport in Paris last year that it had been 'hell' to get back after her Tokyo disappointment but there was always light at the end of the tunnel.
