ParalympicsGB's James Ball, speaking to Channel 4 after winning gold: "Unbelievable. The way it is done with the kilo and the seeding and just waiting for your turn to go up and then yeah, we knew we'd have to follow something big from Matt and Neil, this is how it's always gone. I think the last time we won the kilo was 2019 so yeah, we've just been chasing them.

"Usually, the longer the partnership can gel and learn from each other, usually gets the better times, the faster times but basically we're trying to match them in the first [500m], that's their absolute strongest part which we didn't have, so we worked on a long time on this and it's paid off today.

"It just makes everything worth it. I know everyone says that but the people, the staff people what we do, they want it just as much as we do, even though they're not competing and that's something special and I feel like British Cycling has got a lot in that department and so this is for anyone who has ever believed in us so, even my past pilots behind me, everyone really, we're always trying to win and do our best and I couldn't be happier."

Pilot Steffan Lloyd added: "Unbelievable really, and to do it with one of my best friends. We've been together two years now, we've done three world championships, we've been so close every single time and he's never given up, he always gives 100% and there's no-one else who deserves it more, honestly, and he's such a great guy, so I can't believe it, I'm so happy that I helped him to do this."

Neil Fachie and Matthew Rotherham needed major improvement in the final after only coming fourth in qualifying, and were clearly pumped up to do so - Rotherham shouting and slapping his thighs as he entered the track.

They produced a much quicker run there, under a minute, although it wasn't perfect with a few bumps off the perfect racing line.

We wait and see whether that will earn the world record holders another gold - they are guaranteed a medal after Australian pair Kane Perris and Luke Zaccaria go slower in the following run.

Alice Tai says that her Paralympic success comes after a difficult time in her personal life following the death of her grandad earlier this year.

"My nan got quite ill December to January and then she recovered but then a couple of months later my grandad passed away," she said.

"She really struggled with that and it really shook the whole family. That was really hard to process. They are my biggest fans and have been since day one and I would not be here at all without them. I know my grandad isn't here watching but wherever he is, I know that he's super proud."

Winning gold after amputation 'very surreal'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 1 September

Alice Tai says that winning a Paralympic gold medal in 2024 was not on her mind when she decided to have an amputation on her right leg in early 2022.

Tai, who won S8 100m backstroke gold on Saturday evening and goes in the SM8 individual medley tonight, decided to have the amputation because of increasing pain and discomfort.

"I never in a million years thought my times would drop back down to where they were before. To be here is very surreal," she said.

"It was just a bit of a journey, rebalancing my stroke. My starts and turns are still kind of affected but I feel like the actual swimming is pretty solid now. I feel like I'm 80% of the way there."

GB are guaranteed at least three medals on the final afternoon in the velodrome today.

The mixed team sprint - made up of Kadeena Cox, Jody Cundy and Jaco van Gass - finished top of qualifying and will race Spain in the gold medal match this afternoon.

Sophie Unwin (pictured) will ride for gold (or silver) in the women's B 3000m individual pursuit final, after breaking the world record this morning with a stunning 3:17.643 in qualifying.

Unwin and guide Jenny Holl face Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Eve McCrystal of Ireland, who won silver at Tokyo 2020.

Three years ago Dunlevy was beaten by Lora Fachie, the former world record holder. Today, Fachie will ride against GB team-mate Lizzi Jordan for bronze after they came third and fourth in qualifying respectively.

In Tokyo, husband and wife duo Neil and Lora Fachie won gold within minutes of each other in the velodrome. There will be no repeat today.

Neil Fachie is the reigning world and Paralympic champion in the men’s B 1000m time trial, and the world record holder - but he and guide Matthew Rotherham were not overly impressive in qualifying.

Fachie and Rotherham were only fourth fastest and will need major improvement to retain gold.

James Ball and guide Steffan Lloyd, who won silver in Tokyo behind Fachie, also progressed to the final in second place, with Germany's Thomas Ulbricht fastest in qualifying.
