Bewildered by the Rashford to start talk, Anthony Gordon has had a brilliant season and has performed for England when given the chance. Rashford has had a couple of good substitute performances for Villa. Seems a no brainer to me.

  2. Guehi & Lewis-Skelly in readers' starting XIpublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    England v Albania (19:45 GMT)

We don't want to cut off this afternoon's main topic of discussion before we have really begun, but this is the starting XI BBC Sport readers have already chosen.

We posted this question on the site on Thursday and have compiled a line-up based on the most popular choices in each position.

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham was the most picked player, being chosen by 92% of people, with Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane the next most selected.

As you can see, 4-3-3 is the system of choice, and readers have plumped for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to start at centre-back, with debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly at left-back.

With the news around Marcus Rashford is in line for a start tonight for England.

Let's have a look at what you guys, the readers, think the starting XI should be in Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge.

  4. Rashford finding Villa starts hard to come bypublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

So Marcus Rashford is in line for a start for England against Albania later, but for his club side - Aston Villa - he's finding starts hard to come by.

The loanee from Manchester United has started just once in the Premier League since his move in February - that was in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

He started the two Champions League last-16 games against Club Bruges and in the FA Cup against Cardiff.

Since making the move, Rashford hasn't registered a goal but has got four assists; two in the league, one in the FA Cup and one in the Champions League.

  6. Rashford back for England for the first time in a yearpublished at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    England v Albania (19:45 GMT)

The most recent of Marcus Rashford's 60 England appearances came almost a year ago - on 23 March, 2024, when he played 15 minutes off the bench in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Brazil at Wembley.

He was an unused substitute in another friendly against Belgium a few days later before being left out of subsequent England squads.

Gareth Southgate chose not to take the Manchester United forward to Euro 2024, while interim boss Lee Carsley did not pick Rashford for the recent Nations League campaign.

The last of Rashford's 17 goals for England came in a 3-1 victory over Italy in a Euro 2024 qualifier on 17 October, 2023.

Regarding Luke's comment that the England squad looks average - you have to look at the players that are injured that would be starters - Saka, Palmer, TAA - That's £300m+ of talent not available.

  9. Jones and Rashford understood to have impressed Tuchelpublished at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

In midfield, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is understood to have impressed Thomas Tuchel with his energy and mobility in training this week.

Jones will be hoping to get the nod alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in midfield.

In attack, Marcus Rashford is understood have pushed his claims to start ahead of Morgan Rogers and Anthony Gordon alongside Harry Kane and Phil Foden in attack.

With Marc Guehi expected to start on the bench, Tuchel could select Ezri Konsa and Dan Burn at centre-back.

What a story that would be should Burn cap off what has been an unforgettable week with an England debut.

Central defender Marc Guehi, a regular at Euro 2024, is in danger of starting tonight’s game on the bench.

That would be a big call by Tuchel if that call transpires.

He's talked about the fact that he wants to play with wingers. You know your guaranteed starters are Kane, Rice, Pickford and Bellingham. I think Bellingham will move into a number 10 position.

It'll be interesting to see if Rashford starts because he is in competition with Gordon for the left side because they both want to play on the left-hand side.

Pickford (GK) Livramento (RB), Konsa (RCB), Burn (LCB), Lewis-Skelly (LB) Rice (CM), Kane (CM), Bellingham (CM), Foden (RF), Solanke (CF), Gordon (LF) If we are to play the “premier league” way, Kane CANNOT be the CF. He plays the “1993 premier league” way. Will Tuchel go against his own statement on how we will play, and build it around Kane instead?

  15. Back-four a starting point for Tuchelpublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

Thomas Tuchel may have favoured a back-three in the past, but as BBC Sport's senior football news correspondent Sami Mokbel reported earlier, he looks set to start with a four-man defence against Albania.

That is the system they have worked on most in this week's training sessions.

If that is the case, then Tuchel will pick four from: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United) and Kyle Walker (AC Milan, loan from Manchester City).

Which four would you start with?

  17. International football injury updatepublished at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

Plenty more England focus to come but we know you've all got half an eye on your club prospects too, right? After all, we're in the business end of the campaign.

And - as a football fan - the first thing you worry about during the international break is injuries to your club's players.

So, with that in mind, let's take a look at any knocks and bumps picked up:

    • Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch withdrew from the Netherlands squad but BBC Sport's football news report Nizaar Kinsella says "multiple sources at his club and close to the player have revealed that he has returned more for precautionary reasons"
    • Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori twisted his knee in a nasty fall playing for Italy and had to go off. Afterwards, he appeared to be limping in the mixed-zone and his national team manager Luciano Spalletti said he "didn't know" the extent of the injury and Calafiori will be assessed
    • Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was substituted with a head injury playing for Brazil after a clash with Colombia's Davinson Sanchez
    • Sticking with the Reds, defender Ibrahima Konate was substituted at half-time for France but this was planned by Didier Deschamps

Let's take a look at who may already be an injury worry after less than a week into the international break.

The England squad looks bang average now, what happened? If we had one world-class defender we would have won back-to-back Euros. This team seems to be declining already. 2021 was such a wasted opportunity.
