People talk about Kane not grabbing games by the scruff of the neck, but forward play is about much more than scoring goals and getting assists. A mate (Nick - credit where it's due) once pointed out how much unglamorous work Kane did in the World Cup 2018 game against Colombia, winning so many hopeful clearances, easing the pressure on our defence, dragging us up the field. Would recommend any detractors look back at that game. And it's not a one-off - Kane does that time and time (and time) again.

  3. Tuchel has to win the World Cuppublished at 12:05 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    Harry Redknapp
Former manager at various clubs on 5 Live

If he doesn't win the World Cup then he probably won't be here next time around. Maybe Eddie Howe might have another 18 months or whatever at Newcastle, and then he may be ready [for the England job] but we don't know whether he'd want to leave Newcastle or not.

It would be a difficult decision, but when you get off the England job, obviously, if you're an Englishman, it's very difficult to turn it down. But Tuchel's remit is to win the World Cup now, that's what he's got to do, he's got to be a success.

This is a qualifying group that England should progress quite straightforwardly.

Tuchel's first test will be in the quarter-finals in the States next summer.

Kane is underappreciated just as Rooney and Lineker were in recent eras, with the constant message being that they hadn't won anything - but they can't do it on their own. He'll be missed when he's gone, yes we might be able to squeeze a tournament or 2 out of Watkins after 2026 but we don't have anyone young exploding through as Kane, Rooney and Owen did.

  7. Tuchel is 'here for the short-term'published at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    John Bennett
BBC Senior Broadcast Journalist on the Football News Show

He's here for the short-term. I don't think he will be looking longer. I think he will be looking at this - just taking England to the World Cup. I think he's just here to take England to the World Cup and try to win the competition.

Harry Kane is correct in saying England will go down in the history books if they manage to lift their first major trophy since 1966.

Let's hear from BBC Sport's John Bennett about what Thomas Tuchel's goal is as Three Lions boss.

  9. 'Completely different feel about it' - Kane reflects on his England careerpublished at 11:39 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    England

England captain Harry Kane reflects on his international career and he noticed how much the vibes around the Three Lions have changed from when he made his debut to now.

"Been an incredible journey. From when I started England as a team to where we are now is completely different, a completely different feel about it, completely different expectations and I've been proud to be a part of that and they go super quick.

"You want to take these opportunities whilst you are here and we feel like the squad is as good as ever and it's just another opportunity to try doing something that will go down in the history books forever."

  10. 'The big advantage is that he knows how to get the best out of him'published at 11:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    John Bennett
BBC Senior Broadcast Journalist on the Football News Show

The big advantage is that Thomas Tuchel has worked with him [Harry Kane] before. You can't argue with the numbers. 44 goals he's scored for Bayern was under Tuchel. The big advantage is that he knows how to get the best out of him.

I think he's talked about the fact he wants to see Harry Kane stay further forward. Thomas Tuchel will know he wants runners around him, speed merchants who can get in behind Harry Kane but also to get Harry Kane further up the pitch.

Kane isn’t under appreciated. All fans know what a great goal-scorer he is. But as a fan I can’t think of anytime he has really changed a game in our favour, I can’t remember when he has grabbed a game by the scruff of the neck and dragged us through. He has scored many goals but is that enough.

James just summed it up. Kane scores goals (many of which are penalties) but “doesn’t contribute much”. Can you really give the balon d’or to a player who doesn’t contribute much?

  12. A partnership made in Bayernpublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

Thomas Tuchel has, of course, worked with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, so probably has a pretty good idea about how he will use him, don't you think?

The real conundrum for Tuchel will be which players he uses around Kane, and in which system?

We will come to that in a bit, but let's get back to that question about whether the England captain is underappreciated.

Tuchel will play a 4-3-3. He has hinted that they will play the way most Premier League teams play, as this will suit the players. How Kane fits into the Premier League playing style is a curiosity. Unless you play him in midfield and a different style of striker up front.

  14. Tuchel wants his players to 'create a brotherhood'published at 11:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

First of all, Thomas Tuchel has made it known to the players exactly what he wants from them.

He's made it clear about the style he wants, the high energy and the intensity.

He also wants to make sure that the players create a brotherhood and, in that, he's called up big personalities.

He's recalled Jordan Henderson for his leadership qualities and also Dan Burn for the first time from Newcastle.

There are some debuts to look out for.

Alongside Dan Burn, who was called up for the first time, there is 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly.

He came through the Arsenal academy as a midfielder but he's broken into the first team and shone as a left-back.

For England, it's been a problem position for them so he has a big chance to make it his own.

We will be asking you for your England starting XIs after midday, but BBC Sport's Alex Howell has already been considering this question in today's edition of The Football News Show, which you can watch live in this page.

If Thomas Tuchel does go for a back-four, which of the eight defenders in his squad will he start with?

  17. England to play with a back-four against Albania?published at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

    Sami Mokbel
    Senior football correspondent

Among the key aspects to watch out for tonight is what formation Thomas Tuchel selects.

It is my understanding the team have spent most of the week training with a back four, which could indicate the direction England are heading ahead of the game versus Albania.

Tuchel has a history of utilising a back-three, indeed it was his favoured approach during his time at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League.

But using this week’s training sessions as a guide; Tuchel appears likely to select a back-four against Albania this evening.

  20. Who will be England's toughest game?published at 10:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March

If Fifa world rankings are anything to go off then Serbia, ranked 32nd,will be England's toughest game in their bid to qualify for next year's World Cup.

England won't take on Serbia until 9 September in what will be matchday six.

Serbia will then visit Wembley Stadium two months later in November.
