Newcastle United do not have to look too far for inspiration tonight.

Tino Asprilla, who scored a hat-trick against Barcelona 28 years ago, has jetted in especially from Colombia to watch tonight’s game at St James’ Park.

And head coach Eddie Howe has not ruled out tapping into Sir Bobby Robson’s connection to this fixture in his pre-match address.

Sir Bobby, of course, managed both clubs – overseeing some memorable wins in Europe during his time in charge at Newcastle - and a half-and-half scarf is draped around his statue outside the stadium.

But this group have already created their own history.

Not only have they ended Newcastle 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy - they have stepped up on this stage before.

It is nearly two years, to the day, since Newcastle blew Paris St-Germain away in a 4-1 victory and defender Dan Burn has called on his team-mates and supporters to “make this PSG 2.0”.

Stash13: KDB was/is a class player. He paints pictures on the pitch. What is often overlooked is that he’s also a class bloke. Always plays the game as though he really enjoys it & rarely any histrionics. Not the sort of guy you could ever see going on strike, others should take note!

  6. Club Brugge cruising against Monacopublished at 18:41 BST 18 September

    HT: Club Brugge 3-0 Monaco

In the other early kick-off, Club Brugge have been running riot at home.

The Belgian side are 3-0 up against Monaco thanks to goals from Nicolo Tresoldi, Raphael Onyedika and Hans Vanaken in a chaotic first half.

Monaco had the chance to open the scoring when Simon Mignolet gave away a penalty, but the former Liverpool keeper saved Maghnes Akliouche's spot-kick.

Mignolet then received a yellow card for celebrating in the referee's face before being subbed off moments later with a groin injury.

It's been eventful to say the least.

It's half-time in our two 17:45 BST matches - and in one of them FC Copenhagen are currently leading, and dominating, German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Swedish forward Jordan Larsson put the hosts in front in the ninth minute, diverting in a cross from the left with a crisp finish from the penalty spot.

They've been good value for their lead so far. Copenhagen have won just two of their last 12 Champions League games, but they're ahead tonight at the break.
